Nah it won't. Capcom doesn't align itself too much to one platform anyway. Timed exclusives, fo sho, but still timed. If anything spectacular at all would happen, the PS3 version might be delayed a month at the very worst.

Yep I agree...that and the PS3 didn't have the installed base required for said game.

There's no way any major Japanese publisher will only release an Xbox port and not a PS3 one. It doesn't make sense fiscally. Especially in Japan.

We shouldn't really care as long as we can play it on our preferred console. I personally think the more people who gets to play it the better...(Okami anyone?!)

Gamestop had the PS3 listing off pre the fall TGS. Speculation that a megaton was being dropped at the TGS of the title going 360 exclusive started then, and nothing came up.

Likewise for Amazon. So I'd take it with a grain of salt, unless Capcom management really lost their minds.

They've driven away their top developers in the past, so I wouldn't put this past them just yet (talking about Funamizu, Okamoto and the whole SEEDS/Platinum team). The PS3 is the first console not to get a Capcom game in its first year. Second year in, and it get a multiplatform game.

@Barf#1: Its happenes quite a lot in japan hell for the gaming industry in general. Ive played a Konami FPS that Ive played at the TGS that never made it to light while it was suposed to come out on the PS3. Forgot what it was called, coded arms something. It wasnt that great of a game anyways, plus they had serious issues with the build too at the show it seemed so not suprising they canned the project.

"Often cited as one of the most disappointing project cancellations of recent years, True Fantasy Live Online was highly anticipated almost right from the moment it was announced in 2002, and was touted as one of the premier titles for the Xbox and its Xbox Live online service in Japan. @ssjmichael: Xbox 1 was really big but, obviously it needed to be because of the components inside. Well look at the 360 they put super powerful components that generated massive amounts of heat and used cheap drives and parts. To make up for their losses they charged obscene amounts of money for add on's like the wireless microphones and Webcam($100) Wireless adapter($100). Now look where they are! I Don't especially like the huge size of the PS3 but, hey if that's what was necessary to keep that thing cool then so be it.

Probably a Gamestop screwup. I remember an ad awhile back that listed Halo 2 as coming out for X-Box and PS2. Wasn't plastered all over the place, just so happened to have a Playstation Symbol along with a X-Box symbol to indicate the consoles it was going to be released on. Suffice to say, when I came back a week later, those ad's were gone. The error was obvious, but somebody probably believed it.

In this case, it's entirely unbelievable. Capcom has already gone on record for saying that development costs for games being made exclusively on the 360 & PS3 are far too high, and porting a few of their more popular titles would be in their best interest to not only distribute their games to a wider audience, but to cover production costs (and demand from PS3 owners) that aren't low enough to justify exclusively.

The thought of RE5 being 360 exclusive already ostracizes potentially high Japanese sales alone. Capcom knows they have a hit on their hands, they're not going to hinder excellent sales by alienating customers when they have no reason to.

@Barf#1: They kept bringing out games that was totally unrelated to the market, hardware problems at launch. Poor customer support, poor marketing, other folks complained about the size of the machine.

Then the final nail in the coffin was the fact that lots of folks had bought the console were waiting for Level5s MMORPG True Fantasy Live Online, it was during an era where folks were getting tired of FFXI and wanted something new to play, and from what all the features about TFOL stated had many folks interested. Eventually MS pulled the plug on the project pissing a lot of folks off who had bought the machine just for that game, which was almost complete also according to sources back then. Shortly after that the system itself kinda died here, leaving a lot of folks screwed over and devs burned with time and effort spent with developing for the black box.

Thats everything compressed. Im too lazy to go further into details, but basically thats why when the 360 came here folks were rather wary of it. In Japan one thing about this culture is its all about image and rep. Once that gets tarnished its hard to win folks back / takes a damned long time.

I somewhat liked the first xbox(never had one) but the 360(yes it has the best games)is a complete disapointment for me and i think every one here can relate their frustration. @Father ColdCuts: On the genesis though there were quite a few games that had a good following here in Japan, not to mention quite a good amount of J devs were making games on the genesis also. Phantasy star, Shining Force, lots of other RPGs and classic series.

I wasnt in Japan back during those days but seeing how many folks have memories of those games is a pretty good sign it was popular here too.

Granted they didnt have big names like Square and Enix under them, SEGA still did a pretty good job of having its own niche market back then which was enough at the time. Where as now dev costs are so high you really gotta break out big to make back what you spent.

@GospelX: Especially considering this one was never supposed to be exclusive. But, seriously, the only exclusive Resident Evil games, ever, are the online ones for PS2 (unless they were also on PC? were they? I don't think they were but I could be wrong... Outbreak I'm referring to), the gun survivor ones, and the Resident Evil Zero for Gamecube. I didn't particularly like any of those. All of the ones that I liked (RE 1-4, and Code Veronica) went multiplat. Unless you count the second best game in the series (the RE1 remake), which is only for GameCube as well. Technically, I guess, it's a unique game. In the sense that MGS Twin Snakes is a unique game, exclusive to Game Cube.

Damn, I can't help but feel that whole thing was horribly written. Oh well, I'm not gonna re-write it. Sorry.

They arent reluctant to buy something foreign, they are reluctant to buy something that originally shafted them not to mention still is being called out for hardware issues / not a complete library that matches the demograph of the region yet.

Seems fishy but it is possible Microsoft could lock up a US exclusive like they did with Shenmue II years ago.

That way MS gets a major exclusive here in the States and Capcom doesn't really lose anything in Japan where the PS3 version is going to outsell the 360 version significantly. The 360 RE5 would outsell the PS3 version anyway in the US so it'd be a win-win situation for Capcom. They get a nice monetary bonus and it isn't going to effect their overall sales much.

Plus they get the benefit of a major focused advertising campaign that MS would undoubtedly foot the bill for. That's a major bonus in and of itself.

Jesus, why dwell so much on game listings from gamestop/eb and amazon, i mean i know that they do get a heads up a bit quicker then the rest of us chumps in regards to release dates and what not. What i mean, it seems like its almost always is a data entry error from a intern or something similar, that or employee speculation by one that reads gamers sites like this regularly.

@REZBLUE: that's not true, in Japan the PS3 version of DMC4 outsold the 360 version by 5:1, In Europe the 360 version outsold the PS3 version but only by less that 4,000 copies almost 1:1

Japan is at a 5:1 ration, with over 400000 for the PS3. I'd say that puts the PS3 version in the lead, but I don't know if it's 2:1. US hasn't released their chart yet, but I don't think the PS3 version will sell better than the 360 version here.

Aaah gamestop is clearly biased towards the 360. If you want proof, I'll do my best to provide my fake proof in the form of logic. 360 has achievements. With those, come the achievement whores. And the achievement whores will trade in games like their life depended on it because once they get all the achievements, they're done with the game (regardless of how much potential fun is left in it), and they trade in and get another game *used* (of course) so they can get another set of achievements. I don't have any data on overall sales, but usually Amazon's betseller's list is a good indication of sales and the PS3 version is outselling the 360 version. The PS3 version is #36 on the chart, and the 360 version is #50.

Then you factor in Japan where it's definitely kicking the 360's ass and it wouldn't be shocking if it were outselling it. The UK is the 360's strongest area in PAL regions so that statistic doesn't surprise me. I bet more PS3 copies are being purchased in other regions of Europe though...

I wouldn't be surprised if one or the other version got bumped off the main release date, but I think its crazy to think they would cancel the PS3 version, unless they just got back from the future and the PS3 crashes and burns later this year or something...;)

Ok, just why on earth would they even consider canning the PS3 version. Especially after Resident Evil: Degeneration, the closest thing to a prequel of the RE5, is a Blu-ray exclusive. If anything people should be praying the 360 version isn't canned at the last minute.

Amazon: October 1st 2008

These retailers don't know shit as the release is a long time away. While I believe Capcom does have it out for the PS3, I don't think Microsoft is getting RE5 exclusively.
