Well, this gonna be twisting some rage lemons on release.. Islamic countries (mainly Oil rich gulf countries) would probably ban it.. news might get to the Arab media and it might be paraphrased as "Western Infidels target Muslim Mosques + bunch of lies of what they 'heard' that the game featured from a person who can't understand english". I still don't know why they picked Resistance out and chose to have a problem with a church being depicted. Tons of games have churches because of the cool architecture or the fact that it makes a great place for a gunfight (Mafia, anyone? Best church scene ever).

I enjoy my own church quite a bit but I can't say I'd be offended if someone put a likeness in an altered-history setting like Resistance features.

I'm with Muisse on this one. Taking two shooter cliches and pairing them doesn't make something all that original. Resistance is pretty much sci-fi shooters and WWII shooters combined (the two biggers genres of shooters out there).

That's like making an action game about ninjas and demons. It doesn't make Resistance (or Ninja Gaiden) in any way bad, it's just grabbing a couple of tired cliches and combining them to make a doubly-tired cliche.

Taking WWII and sci-fi at the most obvious levels and combining them gives you either space facists or aliens in a WWII setting.

Even if you consider it a cold war game, just recently games like Sniper Elite and Freedom Fighters came out.

Again, none of this makes Resistance bad. It's just another cliche, though, no better or worse than the space marines or big breasted fighting game characters.

Fanboy is exposed? Like it or not Halo is an unfortunate staple of the console FPS, so I used it as a benchmark.

It was a different direction to take a game story wise. I've never seen the cold war used as a jump off point for radically mutated humanoids who band togeather to try and conquer humanity. The enemies would constantly flank you and use terrain to their advantage. The weapons were some of the best in any FPS of recently memory: The Bullseye was great, the Auger was a sick weapon/shield combo, the porcupine grenades were very fun, the air fuel grenades were very fun, Hailstorm was tons of fun, the sapper was quirky and interesting.

A game doesn't need a ton of weapons, it had enough and they were all fun to use.

I think this is cool, I don't really see how having churches in the game is in any way bad. If the game were about converting radical evangelical christians into homosexuals and the churches were depicted as being converted into gay bathhouses or something, I'd see the complaint. As it is, would the church be opposed to us fighting the Chimera if they were real, even if the battles had to take place in the church? That doesn't make much sense.

However, any work published before January 1, 1923 anywhere in the world is considered to be in the public domain under US law. That would include most historic churches.
