If it was even close to being a Blizz-refined true sequel to This Game for Mac then I am really, really bummed they never made that game. True there was a second Pax Imperia, but it took many years and was not really a true successor to the original.

Yes that game was buggy as hell, and System 7.6 essentially broke it, so it literally cannot run on anything newer than 1994 or 1995, but damn it was really, really fun. I think Monday's Penny Arcade post summed it up when he was talking about "mutant games that schluck their way out of thick algae to gasp and die on the beach.", the fact that Blizz was even thinking about doing it points to just how awesome some of the ideas contained in that game were, 15 years ago.

Ok and there is an update for the game apparently...I have old-ass Macs to play it with but dammit who knows where my damn disks are!?!?!!

It was about constructing armaments and defenses aboard floating islands. I wonder how it was related to Blizzard's cancelled Nomads game. Maybe Blizzard originally had a development contract for the game with an outside studio, didn't like the way it was turning out, and cut it loose.

World of Warcraft had a LOT of problems at launch. For several months too it was extremely hard to get in servers, waiting times, etc. The growing pains for WoW have been similar to most MMOs really (bad CSRs, major balancing changes over time, some shoddy features going live and having to be fixed later, etc.). I thought Blizzard's reputation would take a hit on that for sure. Apparently not.

Not entirely true. Terminal and Swinging were only in charge of creating the engine and probably much of the level design. The actual game design, story, plot, and art were still left up to Blizzard. Blizzard's pretty notorious for being slow as balls coders (see Diablo II coming out optimized for GLIDE after 3dfx was well on its way to bankruptcy) and they have no experience in FPS, so they probably figured getting help would speed up the process.

A British miniature wargaming company named Games Workshop approached Blizzard in the 1990s to make licensed games based on it's IP (Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40,000). The deal fell through, and Blizzard made just enough tweaks to both universes to be able to market them as "original" games.

Boy I'm glad Starcraft was made, though. Helped me through my high school years, it did. Then again, though, so did Warhammer 40,000.

Though, Blizzard is doing a fairly good job matching concept art with finished in-game graphic design, in their StarCraft 2 title.
I'm sure their late game ideas were canceled for a reason- It's probably a smart choice they did on account Blizzard is still very rich with their originals.

This isn't really breaking news. Pretty much every gaming studio has cancelled a game well before it being announced to the public. Some games never make it past the idea stage, or past a early milestone. Many different factors play into it as well. Maybe the idea sounded good at first, but just wasn't fun once a prototype was built. Maybe a higher profile project was started that needed the resources. Maybe the publisher didn't sign off on the idea and pulled funding.

Ghost is one of those projects they want to finish but with Blizzard's lack of success in the console market, I don't see it being set back into motion anytime soon.

As for Ghost. I was VERY disappointed it was canceled. Not seeing it on the list does raise questions.. and false hopes.

After going through 2 development studios, they weren't happy with them. I was lucky enough to play the game in it's now rare form back at one of the E3's years ago. Who knows if they will tie Ghost in with SC2 on the next-next-gen systems..
