@woggerman: I have the Saturn
version (as well as the original DOS version). As I
recall Lobotomy Software did the Saturn conversion;
if you have a Quake Saturn save (which they also converted)or blow up all the toilets in the game you'd get the Death Tank game. But since Lobotomy did it,
I'm not holding my breath getting it on XBLA...

@Stormrider: On the contrary, I think the Wii needs more M-rated stuff. Judging by how long the game's been delayed, I believe it'll be of just the right (lack of) graphical quality to make it onto the Wii.

I'll believe it when I see it. Though I won't be buying it, seeing as my Wii, with its oh-so-lame-just-point-and-shoot control scheme and 13+ Million user base, somehow got kicked out of the Big 3 Club. Well, that and the fact the game will probably suck.

Though, by rights, shouldn't his be coming out for Dreamcast and PS1? I mean, the fans have been waiting patiently for their hardware investment to pay off.

But, who I really feel sorry for is the poor sap with no console at all who'll have to spend $800 on new graphics hardware in order to play this, only to commit suicide out of sheer disappointment followed by the obligatory, "Here's another reason why this medium is by far more evil than all others combined, including NC-17 movies and the Internet," national news special that will fail to report the fact he was also fired from his job and left by his wife on the same day and was only trying to play the game in order to escape from the realities of life just to end up running it on Low Quality and still have it lag in spite of owing the latest ATI-nVidia-Blast Processing card on the market (as of 10 minutes ago) which led to him somehow strangling himself with a Wii Remote depsite the fact Wii-motes are wireless and as mentioned before he owned no console though could have bought both the other Big 2 for the same as he spent on his PC junk.

All I know is, there better be a Zero Punctuation on this if it actually comes out.

Biw that I've got that all out of my system, I've been waiting for DNG since I was in High School myself. After blazing through the original back in my screw school I'm just gonna do my own thing phase and then just recently doing a run through with the High Res pack it'll be interesting just to see what the achievements on the XBLA version of 3D will be

There hasn't been a good Duke game in a looooonnnng while. Sure Zero Hour was good and Manhattan Project it self was pretty righteous ( i feel like i belong in an 80's teen romp as the gnarly stoner/surfer dude ) but to get out hands on a proper Duke sequel that no one who is below the age of like 20 will play because they remember 3D is pretty good is going to be awesome. My only issue is 3D on XBLA is going to be filled with little kids who will proclaim it's "suckitude" and tell everyone how big of a homosexual they are when they run headlong into a laser trip mine and I'm sure they will do the same if said weapons are in DNF. Oh and you know everyone who doesn't remember the original Duke experience will also sit around and discuss how stupid this game is or CoD4 or Halo 3 is better and they will promptly have to be pipe bomb'd into oblivion

I remember being a young bonnie lad at the age of 10 playing this game. My dad and I used to spend hours playing it, switching off when we died. Then my mom saw that there were strippers. That didn't go well. But my dad would unlock the parental controls on it when we played anyway.

Side note: anyone else find it odd that you could run around kicking with both feet at once?

Side note 2: my roommate and I concluded that the song in the strip club is the greatest three second loop of all time.

The "Big 3" includes PS3? Funny, I think Wii has a little something to say about that, seeing as how it keeps outselling by more than double every month. Of course maybe they're not basing it on install base like reasonable people but merely personal opinion, which is naive and will lead to lower potential sales as a whole.

Nice! The thing about games like this and Doom is not that we haven't played it when they came out.

It's that playing multiplayer over the internet (or, god forbid, through modems!) was a bitch then, so much that I had only played Doom multiplayer ONCE before it came out on XBLA, and never played Duke3D multiplayer. Now I've heard tons of great things about its multiplayer in gaming mags when it came out, but it always seemed to me professional reviewers must have been the only people who really could play multiplayer regularly without the hassle of calling your friend then telling him: "you put your modem on answer, I'm calling you", then getting lines to drop when someone picks up the phone. Or having to exchange IP addresses with each person you want in your game.

Duke3D was an awesome game that found its niche between Doom and Quake. From all the little interactive items in each level to the crazy over the top gore and humor, it was a great new FPS at the time. I'm sure it's aged a lot since then, but I wouldn't mind playing through it again if it had online coop.

As for DNF, I'm dying to see what the latest version of it looks and plays like. Prey was also vaporware for a long time and it still came out pretty good...not as good as Portal but it had the technology first. I hope Duke can steal more quotes from the kick ass movies that have come out since then. Maybe he'll be quoting 300 or Gladiator. :P

They haven't 'formally announced' which platforms it will be available on, yet they go on to say the Big 3 (PC, PS3 and 360) would make the most sense?

Wasn't that sort of like a formal announcement? Why not just say it already? The game has been in development forever. Although, it would be kind of funny if the game was made available for every single platform that has been out since it was originally announced.

I'm not particularly interested in the sidescroller. As already mentioned, a revitalized version of Duke Nukem 3D would really hit the mark.

I think with this and Bionic Commando what we are seeing is a trend to use XBLA as a tool to bring IP to new audiences before the "real deal" sequel hists the shelves. While both games have a cult following, to make the game turn a real profit you need to boost awareness and get it in the hands of people who might have never played or been interested in the franchise. What better way to do this than by slapping some new grapics and co-op into a classic?

The only thing that will be more amazing than Duke Nukem Forever actually coming out will be it being any good. That said, Half-Life 2 took a while and ended up being a masterpiece, so I suppose there is at least some precedent for a perpetually-delayed game to actually be good.

I think the only way that DNF will be able to get high scores will be taking the Duke Nukem persona and taking it to the extreme limit. That means massive amounts of profanity, gore, explosions, and of course - hardcore nudity.

Of course it will only get like 2/5 of these right and the rest will be lamed down so the Christian media won't go batshit over it. So yea, it'll probably be as good as Daikatana.

I can't wait. I'm a bit scared, though. They clearly WANT to release this for PC, 360, and PS3. But he didn't really sound too sure that it'll happen. I'm most worried about the PS3 version. If they can do a PC version they'll get the 360 out too. Either they've sunk a ton of resources into the PS3 version and they should be pretty sure it's coming out for that system, or they haven't put as much into it, and they WANT it to come out, but it probably won't. Hell, it probably won't come out for anything, anytime. But the dream is still alive! If it comes out for any system, I will buy it. If it sucks, I will buy it. It's like a ... mythical beast. Or something.

Which classic? 3D or sidescrollers? While the 3D was fun, man I spent so much time on an old 486 back in the day playing those sidescrollers.
