... but as I mentioned previously, we sadly seem to get the candidates we "deserve". Until people, as a whole, start getting wise to the game and become more civically responsible (again, as it apparently was many years ago), this is what we'll continue to get.

The reason Congress has a lower approval rating is because they haven't gotten anything done- they don't have a working majority. Democrats disapprove because they haven't done enough to stop Bush while Republicans don't like Congress because they have been trying to oppose Bush. Compare that to approval ratings for Bush where only the most right-wing people are still looney enough to think he is doing a good job.

I may be a part of the "younger tech generation" and I support Obama. It is not because it "makes me cool", it is because I agree with him on the issues. By the same token I am completely opposed to Ron Paul because I think he has terrible ideas on how to fix the country.

The younger tech. generations think it makes them smart by bashing Bush and supporting Ron Paul or Obama. That's what they hear from their teachers, peers, etc. So it's no surprise.

People seem to forget that CONGRESS(democrat controlled) has a lower approval rating than Bush but you never hear people bashing them. EVERYTHING is Bush's fault.

Now I disagree with Bush on several things...I feel he trys to please too many people and it doesnt accomplish anything. But I won't blindly bash him for it snowing outside right now.

As you can see in my profile, I've been working on getting out the vote since 7 AM. I've called exactly 288 people so far today reminding them to caucus in general and, if they're so inclined, to do so for Barack Obama. I'm hoping to get 350 calls in before I leave to caucus just under 2 hours from now -- 50 more than the goal of 300 I set at 6 this morning.

Even if it is to promote a game, I'm happy when anyone, no matter what candidate they're supporting, encourages people to take part in the democratic process. It's been heartening (is that even a word? I only hear, "disheartening") to see attendance record after record being smashed in state after state in 2008 during primary season. In a perfect world gamers would be the group most interested in politics as politicians sure are interested in gamers and gaming in general and most don't look upon it very favorably.

I'd admit that McCain looks a lot less sleazy than most to me. He's undoubtedly not an angel, but part of the reason he hasn't been president yet is because he hasn't been quite as much a prick as the next guy. Like the whole "McCain has an illegitimate black child" debacle back in 2000.
 
As for people voting... people have become very "single-issue" minded as a whole. You have large pockets of the voting populace that are focused on one or two things, and that's it... and will align the rest of their thinking to some degree with the candidate whom they most agree with on their MAIN issue. This time around, the left will unify around certain key issues like the war and abortion (like always), and the right will do the same... experience and a real plan-of-action be damned.
 
What frustrates me is the whole "speak tough, but carry the status-quo" approach. For example: both parties use abortion as a focal point frequently, but neither has any REAL interest in solving such a problem because the EXISTENCE of such a problem keeps their minions in check. If the problem were solved, they'd have to rally people around something else. It's too easy to say "we're going to solve this thing" because that's what people want to hear... but then do very little to actually change anything because change isn't in either party's best interest.
 
In the end, yeah... it becomes a lesser of evils. The saddest part is, as a country, we are unfortunately not getting the candidates we could most use... but rather the candidates we "deserve", in a way... much to the horror of the world scene, I am sure.
