I for one am glad that Rock Band has more "alternative" fair. Hell I'm hoping they take it one step farther and get some brit pop and goth crap in there. I'd a lot sooner play some Blur or The Cure than a bunch of cheesed out 80s rockers.

Those songs are fun for the guitarist, but in the groups of people I've played with the kinds of songs you describe, the "rock" songs are met with groans and "can't we skip this?"

Seriously, Refused may be fucking dead, but they'll still kick the ass off most of today's "hardcore" bands, and not just because they basically started it modern hardcore genre and took the previous generation of Hardcore to a completely new level with the added depth of their work, such as the Jazz and blues inspired riffs and intros/outros. They were just such a complete band. I'd have to say that "The Shape of Punk to Come" was my favorite album of the ninties and it came out in '98.

The first GH had Johnny Napalm on the cover, but there is only one punk song in the game. (90s Bad Religion doesn't count as punk). If they put a punk character on the cover you would assume that there is going to be some punk in the game. Even in Rock Band they have Punk as an attitude and as a clothing style, but there are only two punk songs in the game. They kind of got my hopes up when I found the Kilt in the punk clothing, I thought "Wow, did they throw in some Celtic punk?". Nope. No Pogues or Flogging Molly, not even Dropkick Murphys. There are so many good punk bands out there with fun songs. I still don't know how they could make 3 Guitar Heroes and Rock Band and still not have any Misfits, I would even be happy with 90s Misfits. I guess if all these punk songs started showing up in video games they would kind of loose there credibility as punk. So just in case you thought all I listened to was punk here are some other artists that should be in Rock Band: Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, White Stripes, Mindless Self Indulgence, and the band that rocks harder than any other band Guitar Wolf.

I think the funniest thing about these lists is that no matter what songs are released, 75% of the peoples are going to hate on them. People's musical tastes vary SO MUCH. That's why I like the variety they're including- you're not going to love everything, and your favorite song or band might not be included, but chances are there's going to be SOMETHING you like. I'm probably one of the few people who would love to see a Barenaked Ladies set, but I'm just as happy to play Weezer or Metallica or whoever else, as long as the song is fun to play.

@logicaldefense: I think it's just because i'd say the majority of people enjoy the classic rock more. Personally, there are very few 'modern' songs that come to mind when I think of 'rocking out'. I frankly can't stand super death metal(anything where the vocals are indecipherable) or the crying screamo crap that most bands spew out these days.


Less razor blades across the wrists and soar throats, more 10-minute guitar solos and awesome riffs that send chills..

In theory, its a pretty sweet idea, but I know the complications of getting the CD to work on either game could be a pain in the ass, but still, anyone else think it would be an interesting option to have??

Packs should be sold by the genre and possibly the time period, ie rock, punk, metal, etc and not by the band. The only interesting songs I agree with are "Hot for Teacher" and "Scrape" and POSSIBLY (very very slim possibility) "Antisocial" - the rest of the songs on there either have a REALLY REALLY boring vocal/guitar/or drum track. That...or I really don't want to hear my friends screech into a microphone for a few minutes(I.E. Refused). It may work for those bands but good GOD not an amateur.

As a side note - the music of choice most definitely skewed in one direction. Guess we know what kind of music Plunkett listens to!

What would be good for the game and the fans is for Harmonix to hold a voting system in which they give a list of bands and the songs from the bands they have optioned and let us pick what we want to see in an update. At least then we could have some sort of control and they could get a better idea in what people want to play.

]]> <![CDATA[These Songs Are Not In Rock Band (But Really Should Be)]]> I just wanted to say, I've put an estimated 400-500 hours into Guitar Hero games, and they are arguably my favourite games of all time. And you know what I did today? I bought GH2 and 3 for the 360 (I had the PS2 versions already) and played through almost the entirety of GH2 in one sitting (well, standing).

My reasoning for buying them was to get the X-Plorer for use in Rock Band.

What's the point of this post? Nothing really, just that we are living in a great time to have all these absolutely amazing music games to play.

Also today, my replacement pedal for Rock Band finally arrived. (They sent me an entire replacement drumset before, minus a pedal. And, to top it off, the replacement pads, which I never needed in the first place, were defective out of the box.)

I don't know if a band with more screaming than singing will get chosen anytime soon though :\ Instrument-wise I would absolutely love to see some older Dillinger Escape Plan or Between the Buried and Me, but more appropriate for Guitar Hero I suppose.

I have to agree, Whether or not I want/don't want the songs listed is irrelevant, it really just does not belong on a video game news site, but rather on a personal blog or even on the Rock Band message boards.

I am sure many others are sick of the endless "BAND/SONG X SHOULD BE ON ROCK BAND/GUITAR HERO!!" posts/comments/blogs/threads but this is just the same thing.
