As stated on Kotaku many many times, lots of American, British, French, and plenty of other products are used and love here in Japan.
Just go take a look at the iPod for example. Why you are looking at it in Tokyo, you can spend time in a McDonalds or shopping for a pair of Nike shoes.
Perhaps watch Doctor Who while you are at it.

It's rather sad people let such stereotypes continue.
More so when they are using it to blame all of Japan based on what Famitsu does, a magazine that bases most of the scores on how much advert revenue they get from a company.

Honestly, japan has always done this. i don't know if its because they hate the US or just have to much self pride, but they somehow always seem to reject american branded tech. I mean honestly, is our taste in games that much different? Several critics had 7 or more xbox 360 titles on there top ten games of the year lists. critics that give love to all systems and all game types. for some reason they choose to bar anything 360. my case and point is, and i hate to use it because im not a fanboy, they gave halo 3 a 37 and assassin's creed a 37 and super mario galaxy gets a 38 and ssbb get a perfect score? that doesn't make sense to me. mario has more than two points worth of flaws and i dont think a fighting game should ever recieve a perfect score. im convinced its just that japanese pride showing through brighter than ever now that there is considerable western competition.

@Jcnet: Wow bold statement about being one of the world's most knowledgeable gamers. Is the reason you don't use Famitsu because the "funny looking shapes and swiggles" as you probably see them are Japanese and you cannot read Japanese? The magazine is far from perfect (ignore their scoring completely), but it gives up lots of great content. BTW I live in the US and pick up the new issues of the weekly version (there are several) at a local import store (I can't understand every word, but it's still like you are looking 4 - 6 months into the future of gaming... mmm MGS4 will soon be mine... but being one of the most knowledgeable gamers in the world I'm sure you have memorized all the codec phrases from MG1, MG2, MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3).

I like the magazine for the content of games, but their scoring system is a known joke in the gaming industry (there is considerable proof of giving higher scores to games that suck if the brand is popular). Also since the 360 is a small blip on the Japanese radar it's not surprising. I wonder what happened to the handheld love (don't read into that)...

Famitsu is a questionable magazine to begin with, so if they did purposely leave the 360 out, I wouldn't put too much stock into whatever message they were trying to convey. Keep in mind, though, that it's entirely possible that they just picked things at random.

I don't think you guys should take this post serious. I am confident that Famitsu is not sending a negative message regarding the XBOX360 status in Japan.

In fact, due to the randomness of the picture (full of random characters, mascot, etc.), it is fair to say that Famitsu is just being "random" in their selection of what to put in the picture.

I don't see the NDSL or the PSP in the picture neither. Does that mean they are rejects? I don't think so.

@baked ham: i agree there could never be a best console, ever. Wii is awesome for certain people who may not be hardcore gamers, ps3 is for more hardcore, 360 is also for hardcore people but attracts alot of imature pre teens dropping the F-bomb much too often, and of course PC the old school Hardcore which happens to be my favourite route of gaming.

Nah i'm one of the most knowledgeable gamers on the planet and I don't use famitsu. There is a reason why Famitsu is not allowed in the US and yet North American has become more and more important in determining a consoles fate in the global market.
