I think how it works is they one, grow a flower on their head, and fall asleep, but Luigi's attacks get an added bonus in the green orb field. Kind of makes sense, seeing as how he sent Mario flying toward the edge of the screen at such a low %.

Why people are complaining about a FS being cheap is beyond me. Final Smashes are 1) not the biggest part of the match OR game, 2) only occur once in a while and 3) can mostly be dodged, with the exception of a few undodgable ones(Kirby, Peach, Olimar, etc)

@ El Goose: Cool, another Ness user hmm? I found his FS to be a little useless too, but hey, it;s meant for a full field battle, perhaps 4 player match on a small map. I's considering Lucas though, as his Up and Down smashes aren't crappy Yo-Yos.

In melee, wasn't there a method for Fox/Falco to call in Team Star fox on the Great Fox Corneria stage? They'd fly in and bombard the hell outta the opponents...why isn't that a final smash? I like the idea of the smart bomb.

And I was hoping one of the Star Fox characters would have an aerial strike kind of in the same way Falcon has that fzero strike. I would have loved seeing some Arwings pummeling people. Hell, they should have given fox a Great Fox strike.

- Wolf a move where he hops into his airship and can fly around onthe screen shooting bitches down
- and give Falco a smart bomb that sucks players into it's explosion.

3 character clones was overkill, but giving them ALL the same final smash was just lazy.

I agree that these FS videos don't really give us a good idea of how the Final Smashes are balanced. I saw another video that showed all the FSes in combat, but it still seemed a little too staged.

I wouldn't get too upset until you play the game, and then remember that you can just turn off what you don't like.

Also, quit acting like the Star Fox characters are the end of the bloody world. Some people (me) like them, cloned Final Smashes and all.

Damn it! My friend plays Pikachu, and his is SO CHEAP! SO, others fly around the stage but can fall prey to the pit, but Pikachu is a gravity/wall defying orb of death?

Also, look at the disparities in damage. Ice Climbers should NOT cover the whole stage and rack up 100%+, but Link and Zelda do 40%-50%.

I still love this game though.

Good job paying attention to ANYTHING about the game. You need a Smash Ball to do a Final Smash. There is no Win button. Without the Smash Ball, the game is pretty much as fair as Melee.

Also, as many have already mentioned - some of those final smashes are really unbalanced. Some are a heck of alot more bothersome, unfair and damaging than others. A couple of those looked pretty much useless. But I guess we'd have to see how some would work in a situation where you've got 4 fighters on screen at once and if attacks such as DeDeDe, Pit, Ness and Lucas' intensify depending on how many characters are on screen.

Luigi's dancing to his unique remix of Shakira's "Hips don't lie" gets my vote. And Mr. Game and Watch gets the award for 'Most ghetto attack' EVER! That octopus was just too ghetto for me to handle. The lack of animation, the raw sound effects...damn.

I was slightly mesmerized by the final smashes until I saw that Fox, Falco and Wolf all had the same one. One palette swap I can just about deal with, but 2!? I know I've gone on and on before - but the palette swaps are all wastes of spaces. Lucas should've just been an alternate costume for Ness and the Falco and Wolf should've been alternatives for Fox. They don't deserve their own spaces on the character select screen. Would it have been that hard to have made Wolf fly his own ship and Falco fly an Arwing? It's also dissapointing that Toon Link's final smash wasn't different from standard Link. He so should've had a final smash that summons a tornado or a gale that blows characters out of the playing field.

I don't think this video is a good representation of the effect the FS's have on the battle; it's just to show what they all look like. Now, if you wanted to see the instant kills and chaos caused, play with four people. Then the "useless" FS's should gain a new use (Though this is just me speculating, since I haven't played the game yet.)

My guess is that there's a lot of "luigified" characters, like Ness/Lucas (read the Dojo entry on Ness to see). Like, the space animal trio will share SOME moves, but not all. And the ones with the same animation will have differing effects.
Most of them look better in action. Like, Kirby's sucks in EVERYONE automatically, as well as items. Shiek/Zelda might be the best I've seen, it's like Marth but with no risk of death. Wario Man = Dragon Install, for GG fans.
If anyone's wondering about FSs in competition, prolly no. Items are more powerful than ever, and most FSs are at least one KO, sometimes two even in one-on-one. I have no doubt that there will be item tournies occasionally, but as for mainstream competition? Don't think so.

@CheckersMcGavern: Actually, the ninja from MGS is an assist trophy.

And I honestly don't mind that some of the Final Smashes look similar. Yes, the Star Fox characters all summon a Land Master, but the specifics of their individual FS effects are different. Fox uses the cannon, Falco lifts any schmuck unlucky enough to be standing on it off the screen, and Wolf's is a horizontal melee attack.

Even better is how diverse the FS effects are across the entire cast. Ike is good for combo damage, whereas Marth's looks like an instant KO assuming that there aren't any barriers in the way. Luigi's is just beautifully weird. A big thing about Peach's FS that wasn't exploited in the video is the fact that if the opponents are close enough to the edge or low on health, they're sitting ducks for a KO when her dance puts them to sleep.

Of course, the whiny "GRR SMASH BROS. IS A HARDCORE FIGHTER GRR" doofs out there are only going to be playing the game on flat stages with all of the items turned off, but I know I'll be having a blast with this game.

SSB in general is a wonderful break from the world of casual one-on-one fighters. But it's unique style and solid gameplay has propelled it into some 'legendary' status that as a long-time gamer myself, I can't explain.

I wonder how FS's will be handled by the competitive tournament scene. On the one hand, supers/desperation/special arts are a viable means of gameplay in fighting games (hell, in SF3, half the reason why characters like Yun and Chun are because of their great Special Arts) but on the other hand, usually items are turned off in competitive smash play.

@tme2nsb: I believe he said there would be no clone characters at some point on the site. HOWEVER. I think his definition of clone was more along the lines of 'Every move looking similar', and not, 'Characters playing similarly or having similar moves with just enough difference that doesn't make them exact duplicates'.

Some of the smashes look rather similar in general (Pikachu/Sonic, Yoshi/Diddy.) or duplicates. (The SF characters.) Which I don't mind too much (Outside of Wolf's, that's just kinda dumb/lazy) but I doubt these finals will make or break anything, and you can always just turn them off.

I watched this the other day and a lot of those don't seem very even. I assume some will work better when the enemy is moving or there are multiple people on the screen becasue stuff like the Earthbound guys' PK Thunder smash hit the opponent a whopping once and it looks like they could have dodged it if they were being controlled by people. Others in comparison are insanely powerful, like the IceClimbers iceberg of doom that seemed to knock eveyrone off the screen or they ended up taking 70-80% dmg and Marth's sword blast seemed to do 70-80% instaant damage and sent the oppontent onff the screen to their death.

Again, maybe with 4 people or moving opponents they even out, but a lot just plain sucked in terms of damage.

I don't like the one of Ike,it looks identical to "Lionheart",final overdrive from Squall of FFVIII,the one from links are looking like "omnislash" from Cloud,but the Tri-force effect save the move a little(It make me remember the lightning triangle of one of the last and more powerful combos in Chrono Trigger,don´t remember the name).The Kirby´s one is a hell of fun.

Maybe I am wrong here, but this video has been on youtube before GameVideos had it. I came across it yesterday when looking for Brawl stuff. The guy who created the video also has other videos of Brawl footage, each showing moves of characters, Subspace Emissay footage, etc. It's really good and people should check it out if they're looking for some good spoilers.

i really want to get this game soon, i can feel my enthusiasm for it slowly diminishing, and i don't know why!
i think the final smashes were well done, all of them, just like in regular play some moves are crazy powerful and some just seem lame, but they are all useful when used the right way.
when i play melee i find that if you're good with a character you can beat any other, each *can* be great. so with the careful balancing etc in mind i think these FS's are good. yeah, some are lame but the characters have higher speed, strength, whatever...
i want to use pokemon trainer... i think he's funny

I dunno, If you played the original on N64 it was like no other fighter ever. Not any that I'd played anyways. But I think the main reason this game is popular is the use of famous characters from game franchises. If you like the characters, you will most likely love the awesome fighting system of SSB. If I were you, and I had a Wii, I'd rent it and see if you like it, but make sure to play it with a couple of friends as well as alone when you do rent it.

@Zho: Gotta love those Landmaster finals, amirite?

I've heard that most of the people who used pikachu's and DK's final smash are doing it wrong. You're supposed to hit one of the buttons as well and the smash does more damage or something extra. Like I hear pikachu's shoots out electricity and DK's does some smash damage.

Also in the video the guy uses Diddy's smash way wrong, you can shoot peanuts out at your enemies while flying over them for some nice damage. Ice climber's final smash you can move around and attack people instead of just standing still.

I've never been a fan of the smash brothers series, but Snakes final attack looks like it would be the most entertaining of the bunch. It seemed to me like the player was having trouble controlling Diddy, he didn't really do anything aside from taking a joy ride around the stage.. kinda pointless.

Sheesh... a new unique feature comes out that players have confirmed isn't broken and can be turned off, and people STILL complain and generalize? Humans are a lousy bunch.

As for the smashes themselves...

Captain Falcon's is totally amazing. It looks like something out of Guilty Gear with how the stage transforms. And the Ice Climbers... wow. I am overjoyed to see that their return shall be triumphant.

Criticism though is, of course, reserved solely for the Star Fox cast. It's not just that they all have Landmasters, it's that this is on top of the fact that Nintendo seems to have no idea how to make the series work anymore. In fact, given this, Tails' suffering through mediocre games, and the embarrassing exploits of FOX News, I'm wondering if there's anyone left on the planet that can due justice to foxes.

But I'll wait and play it myself before getting into a hissy fit. Because I know I'll end up loving it regardless. At worst, think of it this way: any character you don't like you can beat up in the game as punishment for them not appeasing you.

Since you need the smash ball item to do a final smash, more than likely there'll be an option to turn it off in item switch (providing they keep that feature... and goddamn they should).

Either way some look a lot more useful than others. So love Fox, Falco and Wolfs final smashs... but really they could have at least made one of them different. Is there really any point in having TWO Fox clones?

Man oh man... I guess nothing negative better be said about this game :\ I plan to sit on the side lines today and take it all in since I'm sure I'll never play this.

I will say this though as a "nub": May of the final smashes seem like a crap shoot while others seem like a sure-kill and even a sure-kill for one's self if I was following the action correctly. It didn't add to my excitement to see some of the moves reused but the high-points were definately the sword-based smashes (other ones just seem down-right retarded). I guess my only lingering question is if it's possible for both players to do smashes at the same time?

Man I love this video...sure its not the first time I seen it but I have already looked at the benefits of all and I have to say.

DK has the worst and I'm comparing that to Jiggypuff(Purin) FS where if you can knockthem off......the edge causes an instance k.o.

But as far as instance k.o...... Marth has the best FS.

Sure you have to be on the ground to use it but I seen that beast kill three people with that thing. He has a hit box that covers a jump so he can hit you stanind or trying to hop over.

Zelda/Sheik, Mario, and Gannon FS pretty much seal the deal.

But as far as just cool looking but not really gunna kill people. Link, Toon Link, Ike, Metaknight, Lucario.

Im not even going to comment on the landmasters....Foxes lander can do a hover loop around a stage about two times before running out.

I to lazy to finsh the rest but...I'm wondering if the smash circut might actully let the smash ball be tounry legit. If not its going to be one funny final smash flame war.

These items can be used by the other person when they wake up.

Luigi's is funny as hell. I loved Captain Falcon's. I much look forward to using Snake's and Sonic's.

@groovechampion: She puts every enemy on screen to sleep then drops health replenishing peaches. Its really just a support smash. Seems it would be really good to have it on a team battle. When she gets the smash ball, her partner health is low. Put the enemy to sleep, replenish health, then smash the hell out of the enemy! Looks useful, but it actually is very useful if you use it in the right way!

Samus has an awesome final smash but she sucks as a character. Marth/Ike/Meta Knight have fantastic final smashes which can be comboed into. Pikachu/Sonic have good standalone smashes. Some of these are just useless, like Ness, Peach, etc.

Sooo...they are making the game cheaper and alot like Battle Stadium: Don? I hope you have to meet requirements before each "FINAL SMASH" instead of doing it whenever the hell you want. Seems like a stupid idea and some of the moves are a bit cheesy, Bowser...gets BIGGER...lame
