@Loveable-villain: Oh yeah, that's neato. Still, though, the absurdity and complexity of the other one (can't for the life of me remember its name) makes it endlessly interesting.

As a side note, have you played Chrono Cross? There's this one area that messes with perception and whatnot (similar to echochrome, actually), and demonstrates one of the few advantages that prerendered backgrounds have over 3d ones.

Also, where this this whole idea of mario galaxy creating multi-gravity platforming come from? Psychonaughts and Rachet and clank both used that way earlier, and Prey near perfected it.

Galaxy is awesome and all, but give credit where it's due.

I was looking through a book of his recently and there's some other stuff that rivals it, in my view. The 'top of the castle' painting is brilliant, looks like everyone is going 'up' the stairs all the time, when, of course, that's not possible.

I think the shading spoils some of the effect... When looking at it straight-on, as in the first picture, I can easily figure out what's a texture and what's an actual shape. When turned on its side, however, like the one after the jump, it's a bit more brain-bendy. Good work either way.
