@Solitary_Satellite: Yes. The funny thing is that before installing the update, "Skype" appears in the list of the new things added (at least when the PSP is setup in French) but after installation, there is no skype to be seen anywhere. The official website hints it'll be available soon though.

I think it's just like running skype on your PC. The other person doesn't have to have a PSP for this to work. As long as they have Skype and they're logged in you can talk to them. (referring just to skype to skype here)

What's the rundown on required peripherals again? You need the earphones with the remote control ($30 at SONY store, check) and a headset/microphone dealy (gotta find a definitive list somewhere). Questions:

1. do you really need to hook up the remote control, basically two headphones up to the PSP to make this work?

2. can you use the headset+microphone with your PS3?

Yes, it does work as promised, you can navigate the PS3's XMB from the PSP, play music, watch photos, watch movies stored on the PS3, and play games that support remote play (the list of PS3 games is currently quite small), but does include all PS1 games

What you can't do: Play Blu-ray movies via Remote Play, Play unsupported games.

@cduran: From North America to Scotland, a BlackBerry replaces a cell phone and laptop. As it combines the two. From spreadsheets to web browsing and international calling. My nephew has to carry around a cell phone and laptop along with his PSP around campus. When a BlackBerry does all of that and more, even simple games.

Again, I wasn't bashing the PSP, but it would be impossible for a PSP to replace a BlackBerry for me. If it can for you, more power to you. A $99 BlackBerry Curve does a lot more for me in the business world than a PSP ever would. Which is fine, it works for some people and it doesn't for others.

@Custom Reality: Actually, I'm gonna get a lot of use out of this and Im 37. My wife and I have family in the Dominican Republic that we call often, Skype minutes are a hell of a lot cheaper than anything else. And theres no need to boot up a computer just to make a call.

I also travel to China a lot on business and one of the things that was annoying was having to sit with a laptop in front of me just to call my wife.

Sure I could get a blackberry, or whatever other Skype phone out there, but that would mean having to carry more stuff with me when I go on travel, since my PSP always comes with me. Especially on that long 20 travel to China from Florida.

@sadkermit: I tried it with my iPhone's wired headset and it worked fine. Still need to use the PSP-2000 remote, but the iPhone headset has less nerd factor in it. Apple sells the iPhone headset separately, but they are pricey ($30).

I'm sure a slew of PSP Skype headsets will be available soon from 3rd parties.

It's easier to just use a BlackBerry and wait to game until you get home or a friend's house. The PSP is far too big and has far too little uses for me to carry around. Although Skype on a PSP is cool for kids to hang out in their bedrooms and talk to buddies for free without a cell or computer.

@Brian Crecente: Your best bet for "screen shutdown" is just holding the video icon on the bottom of the PSP. Much like holding the music note will mute your audio, holding the video will turn off the screen, but keep the PSP running. The screen turns back on when you touch any button.

Alright. Ive got a PSP 2000 and want WiFi in my house so I can use this Skype feature among others. Does anyone know how to set up a Linksys wireless router (model: wrt54g version 6)? I have had this router for the longest time but haven't been able to get it working. Point me in the right direction or something, anything please. @mydogisdexter: Remote play is great. I use it to watch movies and listen to music from my bedroom and office (PS3 is in the living room). I don't play many games over remote play but I tried out syphon filter PS1 and it seemed to work okay.

One of the coolest features IMO is that you can turn on the ps eye camera through the chat interface so I have it set up by my daughter's playpen and I can watch her play from work.

I think you can pull up the dialpad during a call to enter extension numbers and stuff.

btw. when you installed skype for the first time on the psp, you get a 1 free skype call. Of course no one said anything about it so I wasted it listening to my cellphone's voice mail.
