I really prefer the 2 x 2 setup.

In Japan its split between 2 factions pretty much the 4 across or 2 x 2. I know folks on both sides who hate one or the other lol. A few rare people I know can use either or which scares me.

As already stated, worthless for us PAL gamers as the games are all in 50hz and black borders. Arcade-quality my ass. Nice stick though, I've always preferred 4 buttons over 6.

By the way, all PC Engine games run in 60 hz, I wonder when Nintendo realises they can do it for other games too?

@Bakachan: Its a pain in the ass to stretch the fingers that far. Even more so when you gotta do combination presses that are used so often in KOF games.

@Billkwando: Over here in Japan we have had dedicated ones with either settings. It seems to be up to the owners of the arcades as to which they put in. In regards to machine orders that is.

@Witzbold: You think so? I always felt the 2x2 layout was RSI-inducing at best, and only belonged on the fugly compact MVS cabs. ^^;

2x2 is nice for something you're playing with your thumbs...not so much for an arcade cab imo. 4-across puts a button at each fingertip, how can you go wrong?

Its unfortunate that the NeoGeo controller they only made the 4 across layout since thats the shit one.

It has the same button layout as those horrific X-Arcade controllers (bought one, gave it away):

This would be great if there an arcade perfect collection of Metal Slug, but the Metal Slug Anthology for Wii is a total mess.

Still doesn't beat the Hori Real Arcade Pro for PS2.

I'm not that much of a collector (I have a Neo Geo MVS, so the arcade hardware) and buy the games to play them, not to look at them sitting on a rack or to secure my lifestyle when I'm 80.

The emulation thing is the 50Hz issue plus the fact that the VC games offer nothing over the originals, for me. I LOVE online play. I have some VERY old friends that I still like to play with, but now they're 400 and more kilometers away, so it sure would come in handy, and hey, they're doing it on XBLA, it shouldn't be THAT much of a hassle to do it on VC, too - especially since the games are pricier on the VC.

For people not having a Neo Geo and not living in PALien it might be worthwile, but for me, it is not.

Before the Wii was released, I was really looking forward to the VC, but now I'm mostly disappointed. So much that I haven't even bought a Wii myself up until now (No More Heroes might change that, unless it'll magically be released on the 360 or PS3). :(

I am a huge advocate of building your own arcade stick. Probably not as feasible in this instance as it is with any other platform though.

I built my own stick for MAME, it's a seven button layout with the Neo Geo MVS-style colored A-B-C-D arc for the top row, and 3 unlabeled black buttons under B, C, and D, to accommodate the Capcom 6-button fighting layout. I have it hooked up to a PC controller board I got from GroovyGameGear that turns up to 32 inputs (2 players worth of controls) into standard USB HID controls.

But you could just as easily wire the microswitches to the button contacts on a board from a cheap third party console controller, and just like that you've got a PS2 or Xbox arcade stick.

Arcade pushbuttons and sticks are relatively inexpensive. Seven buttons and a stick are about $20 for the standard US stuff. (Happ Controls) A bit more if you want the nice stuff, like a Japanese stick. Sanwa is pretty much the standard for those third party console 'arcade' controllers.

Hell, come to think of it...if you're any sort of Neo Geo fan...you're better off either playing them in MAME, or actually getting an MVS mobo and some game carts off ebay (They're cheap as hell! Even cheaper than the home system!) and building a cabinet, or your own consolized machine.

They should be forced to play Legend of Success Joe on Neo Rage with a mid-90's Gravis pad until they foam at the mouth.

as someone who owns a Hori stick for the PS2, i would absolutely say its worth it. i use it for 3rd Strike and CvS2 and i love it. i tried it for GGXX (which i mention since i know GGXXAC is on the Wii) and it worked wonderfully as well. i would say it comes down to personal preference.

Yeah that's great!! Iam used to both the standard and the NeoGeo controls but has anyone bought a Hori arcade control stick is it worth it? Or should i just wait for this one cause they are both the same retail price. but

Unlike other Neo Geo owners I'm all FOR re-releasing some classics (how awesome a Windjammers with online mode would be!), but unfortunately on VC they seem to be cheaply emulated - honestly I WISH they'd be just as good as the XBLA versions (who suffer from the D-Pad of the otherwise perfect 360 controller). Then they might even be worth the price that is charged.

Whoever is repsonsible for that should be punished with playing E.T. for not under 100 hours.

So all in all, I don't have to have the VC versions, because they're offering me nothing over the Neo Geo versions or the already available PS2 versions. Those are even better, because they actually run at 60 Hz.

I own the PS2 version and it feels 99% authentic. The joystick is different internally (yes I ripped the rubber feet off so now it matches my real Neo Geo controllers) but it's close enough. I was using it last week to play KOF 98 over GGPO.net with a USB adaptor and it was AWESOME.

I would (and will) totally buy this for Wii, but it would certainly help if they'd release some games that every Neo Geo owner doesn't already have. I bought all those games used for less than $50 on cart. I know most people don't have one, I'm just sayin' they should stop holding out on the later titles.
