It's probably just due to time constraints (although Ellen's obviously grasping for content.) I doubt it was because he failed or something like that. This kid isn't the best I've seen, but I'll give him credit for being able to do the intro without tapping. That takes some nice dexterity in your pinky and ring finger to pull off. I have to use both hands, but at least I can combo it :p.

Of course, the only reason the audience enjoys it is because he's a cute little kid. I don't think Guitar Hero is going to cause people to stop caring about real guitarists. Likewise, being good at Guitar Hero has nothing to do with being good at guitar, aside from basic finger strength. Learning to play this song on real guitar could easily take years, starting from the beginning, and weeks for the most gifted expert. It took me a day to beat this song. Also, I'll mention that it's quite easy to jam on the frets in GHIII and combo impossible phrases, even if your rhythm is completely off.

I happened to have broken the small joint on my pinky as a kid, and it healed a bit crooked, causing it to curve towards my ring finger, it makes tapping orange while holding green really, really hard.
