@TheIrishNinja (PSN), IrishNinja2099 (XBL): I didn't say anything about wanting the game to be completely offline. Animal Crossing DS had an online mode that was great and won awards and everything. That's totally a different issue than whether or not it's a massively multiplayer online game, which implies some sort of persistent online world. I'd like my own Animal Crossing town, thanks.

I hope they do some changes too. When I played the DS one, the happy discovery of catching a new fish or bug was kind of muted by the fact I'd done it all before in the GC one. Although there were still plenty of cool things. I also really missed holidays...acorn furniture week was a huge renewal in my interest in the game. But other than that, there was nothing new to see once I had gotten the house completed and the major collections done. Sigh.

Man, now that I think about it, I can't think of any other company (except maybe Ubisoft and their shovelware) that come out with as much new, original games as Nintendo. They must be a friggin' huge company to pump out so much stuff.

@Mitch10: Nintendo come out with new IPs as often as any other company. Just relax. They also pump out the tried-and-trues we already love. It's ironic you are complaining about lack of new Nintendo franchises when Animal Crossing is just one such surprise from last generation. A pleasant surprise, at that. The patented Nintendo genius definitely shines through in AC.

That being said, I'm not sure if I really need a console version of AC as the DS one does me fine and dandy and should keep me busy for the next 20 years or so.

(I wonder if I'm alone in hoping this version does not turn out to be an MMO?)

Not really a surprise...they need a "big" game for Christmas, and this is it.

They are already blowing their load with Mario Kart, Wii Fit and Smash Bros. in the early half of 2008...so it will be interesting to see how they end the year. And it will be interesting to see how they go into 2009 too...I want a Pikmin game soon!

I don't think there's any where in the world Animal Crossing Wii is an MMO. First, Nintendo has no track record or experience with MMOs. Second, why would they sacrifice all the potential customers who have Wii but no internet connection?

Kirby isn't dead? :O I thought they had confirmed the title to be dead. Perhaps that was specifically the Gamecube title, and they stopped making it in favor of a unique Kirby game for Wii.
