Also, I am SO GLAD This article was posted/created, because there are a lot of folks out there who want to get tattoos because they're into a show/anime/game hardcore. One of the best rules of thumb, is to consider the tattoo for at least 6 months to a year before you actually get the tattoo, as spur of the moment decisions can leave you with lifelong ink shame.

I have the triforce eagle tattooed on my right wrist and I work at a bank. Tattoos are more acceptable than they used to be, but just make sure that if you get it in a more visible place, make it something that you can cover up. Mine is no larger than a thick leather watchband. I 've considered getting a 1-up shroom on the other wrist, but I think one gaming tattoo might be enough.

Gaming tattoos, though... I like the idea of doing something that looks good to non-gamers but recognizable to anyone who's played the game you're referencing. Rather than the weak point from SotC, I think I'd go with the Zod rune from Diablo II. That's right: indestructible. Kneel before Zod.

I would have a few gaming related tattoos done on me, but I am not as daring as you and plus I have career to look forward too. I can't be shaking hands with executives and collagues and have them see the tats. Yes, times are changing but not enough to where I can freely express such images on my body and have the "world" accept them openly. The business world that is.

Then again, that's just me...I'm kinda picky with who should get tats of what...I mean, I know it's up to that person to choose, but does "recently turned 18 years old male" really need a "tribal wristband?" Or a gamer tattoo?

I just don't really see the point. Yes, the game that you got it from could have been really cool and fun, but I don't go around tattooing everything that's fun. I mean, sure, there's plenty of games that I considered a "part" of my childhood and growing up, but I'm not about to get any tattoos of 8-bits.

Again though, that's just me...I mean, I might sway a little if the chains served a dual purpose. Like...I don't know, lets say that you were wrongfully sent to jail for some period of time? Then, serving as a reminder to unrightfully spent time as well as a nod to a video game...well, there you go, dual purpose!

Although I think that you should have chosen some other sort of more universal gaming tat...as is habit lately, most new games come in with a great big bang, and then are quickly shoved aside for newer games or sequels. I'm not sure what it is about older games, but somehow they still hold their place in a person's mind more.

Again, my humble opinion...

...and passing the 10 year test, if I wanted a gaming tattoo I might go with a red Dreamcast spiral without the text, or a DualShock controller since it's still the best overall controller design I've used over the years and I've been using PSX/DS/DS2/DS3 controllers for 13-14 years now. In comparison I only used my NES pads for about... 4 years since I got it a year before the SNES hit - classic though the NES pad is.

I've also considered a barcode for a long time, but it probably wouldn't be machine readable, would be meaningless otherwise, and look kind of bleh. Maybe a QRCode with my name and vitals or something... but no. That would still be silly. I feel sorry for anyone with an "ALL YOUR BASE..." tattoo.

I'm waiting for the Street Fighter 2 HD game to come out so I can get the new Ryu sprite. I'm going to put him doing a hadouken after the sword to go all the way to my elbow. When that finally comes out I'll fill in the gaps on my arm with Delita in his knight suit from FF Tactics, Squall's gunblade from FF8, and either Rikku from FFX-2 or Trish from Devil May Cry (Maybe both). I'm also contemplating putting the blue portal from Portal around my elbow. We'll see how I feel come this summer.

Yeah, but at that point, who really cares how you look, it ain't like you'll be picking up chicks when you're 70. And those older guys with the battleship/army tattoos always looked fucking badass. Granted, those tattoos seemed to blur with time, but believe it or not, tattooing technology has come a long was as far as inks and application.

My problem, personally, with getting a gaming tattoo is that there are so many games I love I don't think I could settle on a single emblematic design. I'd probably have to get something all-encompasing, like WASD or a D-pad or something.

The way I see it is that when you are old, you are gonna be wrinkly as shit anyway, why not have some colourful wrinkly skin? I know i would rather have the benefit of having something I love on my skin my whole like, rather than worry about what i'm gonna look like when i'm 70.

I have quite a few tattoos, and about 3-4 years ago, I got a Silent Hill themed sleeve drawn up. I sat on the design for quite a while, and eventually decided against it. It was just too scary looking haha. I pretty much stick to traditional Japanese tattoos. I LOVE yokai... I have two Kirin on my right sleeve and am looking at a Baku for my left...

I have WASD on my left forearm and I have never regretted it. Just be sure whatever you decide on means something to you and is done well (do some research, ask people, shop around!!) and you will be happy.

As for future job possibilities, that's something you'll have to weigh yourself. I'm a nanny, and it's really not an issue. Most kids are fascinated by things like tattoos and large holes through the ears, so at least mine worked out.

Too true! What's weird is all the tattoo's I have, and the massive amount of gaming I do, I have never thought getting a gaming related piece.

Seems odd to my friends too, but most of my ink is a bit more artistic and abstract. I think the closest I would come would be something in the style of Odin Sphere, but even then, I can't imagine it translating well.

From hanging out at a tattoo shop on a near daily basis, and being married to a tattoo artist, I've seen tons of great video game tattoos ranging from old school Megaman to more recent games like Spyro, Halo and Resident Evil. If any one is interested, I'll share.

No offense, but ask any experienced tattoo artist about that stuff. It totally sucks, I am very good friends with 3 of them, and not a single one will use it based on the reviews of people who have.

It has very poor color, and fades very quickly. Who wants a brand new tattoo that doesn't pop? Although, there is a good chance that some street flash shops will use it seeing as they don't really do custom work to begin with.

Only thing I would add is spare no expense. EVER.

Tattoo's are permanent, and make sure you get a good artist to do your work. Go by reputation and work of theirs that is older than 1 yr. to gauge if you'll be satisfied. Price should never ever come up until they ask you to pay. Better to pay $1,000 for a well done piece of ink then to pay $100 and have it look like rubbish in 3 yrs.
