1: Mr Game and Watch was confirmed to not be returning. Sure, that doesn't mean things haven't changed, but that raises suspicions.
2: Ashley from Wario Ware? Don't get me wrong, she's probably my favorite character in the series, but I don't think she's as important as some other characters.
3: I'd think Nintendo would have learned something after the sticker page incident. They wouldn't be dumb enough to just go and do it again, and any idiot can figure out that the character select, minus hidden characters, would be a spoiler, even if you have to freeze frame or slow it down or something, it's still a spoiler.

The character select screen in Melee was "dynamic" in that sense too. Pikachu for example started in the middle of the top row. But when you unlocked Luigi he got moved to the far left on the bottom row (so that his clone Pichu could be placed next to him).

This was done so that the game didn't "spoil" you on its own by leaving certain spots blank in the roster.

I'm not saying that makes this any less fake...but just saying it's not unprecedented for a Smash Bros. select screen to reorganize itself. I imagine Brawl's will do it.

If we're going by popularity of the series, I don't think that Star Fox warrants four roster slots, or that F-Zero would ever get more than one.

The real giveaway, in any case, is Ashley. The odds of having a Wario Ware character that isn't Wario himself are pretty much not, and given that Ashley wasn't even introduced to the series until the DS title (if memory serves), she'd be a bizarre choice in any situation.

Also, I think that K.Rool does belong to Nintendo - they own all of the monkeys from the Donkey Kong franchise, so I'd have to imagine that they've got control of K.Rool as well.

@resetbutton: He's in this screenshot...so you want this to be fake because you like the character? I don't get it. o_0

Bowser JR. - I seriously doubt it, and would not get slot 1 on the screen in any case.
Midna - unless they decide to overload on Zelda chars - don't count on it. Wolf Link would have been cool, but that's the only case where Midna happens.
K Rool - Isn't he a Rare character?
Ridley - one of the favorites from "why can't we have posts" - but the mechanics and scale DO NOT WORK.
Fusion Samus - easily handled closely enough by a costume change, not a separate character.
Ashley - Hahahahahahahah
Micaiah - Look for Sothe to appear on the list first. Marth was replaced by Ike.
Black Bull - If they have not announced Falcon yet - don't hold your breath here.
Masked Man - seems doubtful without Ness.
Ness - Lucas is a clone - and a replacement.
Mewtwo - I think Lucario is meant to be his replacement.
Game and Watch - I think Nintendo already said he is gone at this point.

It's completely fake because they used her Dojo site picture, not the official one. Also, Olimar's portrait is lacking the Pikmin in it from the real one. Plus, look closely, and you'll notice that Peach's portrait in the real one has less empty space in it than the one in this picture. Yoshi and Lucas' portraits also have too much empty space compared to the real ones. The Ice Climber's portrait in the real one doesn't show as much of Popo's body as this fake one does. Kirby's picture also doesn't match the offical character roster shots.

So they can make Dark Samus playable, but not Dark Link? I think WAY more people were asking for playable Dark Link than Samus. Link just got a palette swap for Dark Link, so I imagine that Samus will be the same.

Plus, who the hell would ask for K. Rool and Micaiah in Brawl? I can understand people like Krystal and Ashley, but K. Rool, and Micaiah? If they wanted to add in another Fire Emblem character everyone wanted, they'd put Marth or Roy back in, or make some other more interesting FE character playable, like Lyn. But she's just an assist trophy... Don't tell me that people think Micaiah is a better choice than Lyn for Brawl.

By some slim chance it is real, then I'd be pretty pissed that they didn't add at least one Advance Wars character. They made Assist Trophies, and stickers for them. The least they could do is make a character playable.

That's why there was a question mark on the bottom of the screen in the movie. I apologize that I can't provide an original source of the picture; but on smashboards/gamefaqs/ect. this is a well known fake.

Notice that the Clause (sp? guy next to Lucas) character art is drawn, as is the wind waker link one.
