I'm proud of each and every accomplishment that I actually pull off that contributes to my (admittedly low so far) gamer score. I'd rather savour each victory and little "You earned x achievement" box than pay for an arbitary number. Bragging rights don't really work if people notice you don't know how to play 95% of the games that you have achievements for.

And I think if asshat had really earned his ridiculous amount of points he wouldn't just sell them off so easily and everyday he would be begging Microsoft to give him back his account.

The truth about achievements: It discourages 360 gamers from playing on other systems simply because they won't earn points. If the games achievements are too easy to get, gamers will usually switch to another game as soon as they unlock everything, even if the game has tons of replay value left in terms of gameplay. If the achievements are too difficult to get, people might not bother playing the game at all, even if the game has potential to be really fun. Achievements have turned into an addiction similar to earning experience points in role-playing games. The main difference is that Xbox Live IS the role playing game, and the games are the monsters you run out to level up with.

I can understand your point of view on the matter, but let me share some of my positive experiences while whoring for points...

- I've played and finished a TON more games than I ever would have otherwise, sometimes suprising myself how fun a "bad" game can be. (Call of Juarez, Timeshift)
- I've learned a about game design, mostly from seeing some really bad attempts.
- I've actually felt a true sense of accomplishment for some achievements. Example: all agility orbs found in Crackdown(no guide used)
- I'm still playing older games, or more like intending to play those games for the last few points.(CoD2, CoD4, Crackdown)

I love achievements. They're these fun little goals that the developer sets for you. "Complete Level One" is a crap achievement. Some games, like Crackdown, Dead Rising, or Mass Effect and Bioshock (to a lesser extent) have great achievements that encourage you to do things you might not otherwise do and extend replay value.

Gamerscore though....it's pretty dumb. It's not at all balanced (Orange Box vs. Fight Night, for example) and it's just some completely meaningless number that is displayed with your card.

you made that up....do you have any idea how much harder it is to view the ips of people youre playing with over live? You can just make private games or use the "INVITE a friend" option to invite people to a private game. Just assume people are cheating to get all the ones from multiplayer matches.

He is *not* the top gamer on xbox live, he has stolen the top spot on mygamercard.net but he is NOT the top gamer.

Subtract every cheated point this dj guy has gotten and he has a gamerscore of around 80 thousand.

Achievements are fun, there's no doubt. When I was a PS3 only guy I didn't get it either until I got a 360. Yes, if a game is exactly the same for both systems, I'll get it on XBox just to get the achievements. BUT - there are always people that take it too far. I mean, what does a high gamer score REALLY get you? Street cred?

It's just ridiculous. I think he figured that out and wants to cash in the best way he can.

I thought they were just making points gained via game saving disappear. Basically when you play a game offline there is no time stamp on the achievment. So if you turn on your system one day and have say 1000 GS and then the next day they see 10000 more the next day then they see that as a probable offense. Whats interesting of all offline achievments they see a problem especially if some of those offline achievements can only be achieved online.

There are legitimate reasons why an online achievement might appear without a time stamp just look at the issues with live the last week I did see a persons account that lost a games achievements that did come back with the profile on the harddrive minus the timestamps.

I can't remember the blog site I read so many but there was an editor that when MS implemented these changes to limit boosting had 2 360's one online and one off and when he plugged his offline harddrive on to update his Gamercard they just nulified the gamerscore cause they thought he was cheating but not banned just nulified. So was StripClubDj's offence that much worse that there was no forgiveness or was there something more to this.

It's not like having all the points in a game unlocks a new mode or gives you a new weapon or something like that. They are completely worthless. These are the kinds of things that kill gaming for me. Rankings, stat monitoring, they are all so subjective. Its easy to play a game in order to score or stat pad.

BF2, ETQW, and really just any game where people care more about a number then actually playing a game I will completely shy away from. Its not that I can't compete, it just isn't fun for me to type rank after every round to show people who don't even know me that I can HS them in CS:S sitting in the bathroom on a toilet.

my gamerscore is a whopping 20k something or other, I used to do the achievement whore thing until I realized what a sad waste of time it is. I never once purchased the games I used for boosting my score purpose I just rented them or borrowed them off someone stupid enough to acctually buy them.

But I will still go for all the achievements in games that I like,
1000/1000 Halo 3(non boosting)
1000/1000 Assassins Creed
1000/1000 Blue Dragon.
960/1000 Bioshock(damn you hard mode)
I loved those games so I got most of the achievements for completionist purposes really. Buying an account that has them already unlocked would ruin the fun.

He didn't get banned for gamesaving. There simply aren't game saves for every single game out there, and not all work. There is another method using 'hypervisor' exploit. Google it if you want details, but basically the user has full control of the console and can unlock achievements through hacks and not even having the game. This is why he was banned. I haven't heard of anyone being banned for just game saving, and I honestly don't feel that anyone should be.

Does anyone remember a while back when Major Nelson mentioned that altering your gamerscore in any way other than playing the game out right you could be banned because its against terms of service. MS later put a stop to this which introduced profile glitching, that means he's hacking the achievements. He didn't earn all those points and for him to say he did is ridiculous. Someone should as him why he doesn't make his profile public and see if there are dates next to online achievements... If there are no dates they were profile glitched and not truly gained.

This kind of idiotic "must have gamerscore" mentality is regrettable, but it doesn't mean the system is broken. Gamerscore and achievements are still fun, but you really have to look at them on a per-game basis. Every once in a while when I'm waiting for something else, like a download or for someone to join a multiplayer lobby, I'll compare my game achievements to friends and see how far we each got in some of my favorite games. It's pretty interesting, amusing (and when developers do it well, satisfying) so long as you don't take it seriously.

Achievements are good and fun and all, but they do bring the moron in some people... The only achievement points I have were gained through playing the game normally. I don't know my score, but I suspect it's pretty laughable.

I do like the idea of the achievements system and gamerscore, but I don't think a high gamerscore is anything to be proud of. It's just a number! :-P

Who the fuck would be pathetic enough to buy that? My gamerscore is in the low thousands and I could give a damn less. It's cool I guess if people find joy in unlocking new ones, but where is the joy in BUYING an account with the score? That takes away the fun of building up your score!

I don't get the point of achievements, but I have little patience so I'm probably not the type of person they're targeting anyway. It makes even less sense to buy a gamertag that's a known cheat.

He had to be banned for cheating. According to his 360voice blog he got all achievments for GHIII, The Simpsons Game, and COD4 in one day. And another day he got 10 points, even though he didn't play. And if you look, he got 100% Gamerscore for Oblivion + Shivering Isles, even though he only played it once. Anyone knows that it's impossible to get 100% gamerscore on Oblivion in only 1 day.

Like the others said, he was most likely gamesaving - a procedure in which someone has already unlocked all the achievements, uploads the game save from their 360 using some data transfer thing and then posts it somewhere for other people to download. Once downloaded you transfer it to your 360 using said transfer device and booya - achievement unlocked. It's against Microsoft's TOS, so why people still do it I don't know. Takes the fun out of it if you ask me.

I think user "Im So Godly" is trying to sell his account for $999. He is level 10 prestige on CoD4 and did it in something like 9 hours. He has a bunch of other account like bbb1bbb, bbb2bbb, bbb3bbb that he has pad him up to the top. Seems like way too much work to me.

@Kamizzle: I'm proud of that CoD4 achievement too. Took me about an hour to do it, because I'm bad at that game haha. I was able to get every achievement in CoD4 except Mile High Club, but I'll admit I had real trouble with a few of the parts on Veteran.

As many others have said, he was a game saver. Meaning he used save files from people who had already completed games to trick his 360 into thinking he should have the achievements unlocked once he loaded the save.

I'm a huge fan of achievements, and probably have more than a normal person should, but I really don't get the reasoning behind gamesaving.

Buying an account takes all the pleasure out of getting the achievement points in the first place (the reason they're there)

Besides, with so many gamer points, you would never be able to get any of the achievements in older games (because he already cheated them into his account)

There's a jewelry store in Towson mall (or was, haven't been there for a few years) called Imposters, and it sold real-looking fake jewelry, very very inexpensive and valueless unless you wanted that bling style on the cheap. Some fools robbed that jewelry store. Hah. Of course, the plethora of REAL jewelry stores in that mall probably had unbeatable security, they just didn't think to realize that the store with weak security may have nothing of value.

I played with Stipclubdj a bunch when table tennis came out. He had it set up so that he could see everyone's IP address in the room, then he would have it automatically boot anyone who came into the lobby with a different ip. This would ensure he could get his booster friends into games. Quite an elaborate process just to get some achievements.

I have 13,000 and change, and that's actually considered to be very high by all my friends. I have two friends in the 27,000 range, which is insane. My brother and most of my other friends are in the 1,000 to 7,000 range.
