@Atheist Jew: Not to be a hater, but isn't PVC one of the worst toxic chemicals used in Plastic, and a major point in the push for "greener" manufacturing? @Sparx88: If you're not interested, that's fine. I'm saying don't click if you aren't interested, thus keeping your "annoyance" to a minimum.

But the bottom line is none of us get to choose for everyone else what they find interesting any more than anyone else has the right to do the same to us. (Except Crecente... he gets to choose for everyone to some degree, for what that's worth).

Personally, I don't find the "game cake" posts interesting... but I don't talk about it either. Some people might enjoy that... good for them. I just skip past them instead of letting it bother me. It would be the "letting it bother me" part that is the problem, not the post... because it's just my personal taste, and that shouldn't stand between someone else and their favorite content.

The current average of "cube" posts is one per week... though a few other portal posts pop up too. At most you're probably going to see 3 Portal posts on any given week anymore... and that's likely to continue to diminish, because it always does as interest in a topic wanes. Out of hundreds of posts per week for what many people consider GotY material, that isn't all that bad... and it's way down from where it used to be by natural progression.

Don't take it personally, because I don't know if, in your case, it is anything more than must a passing annoyance... but if these posts seriously piss you off, I think you're better off working on your own personal demons rather than hoping people will conform to your tastes. Not only is that never going to happen, but it's also likely only one in a long line of things around here and elsewhere just bound to grate on your nerves. If not Portal, then something else will eventually take it's place.

For what it's worth...

I think a more constructive place to put such reactions would be to suggest to the Gawker developers that users be able to "filter out" tags that don't interest them... something like a "kotaku.com/tag/-companion-cube,-portal,-game-cake" type system that would allow everyone to avoid whatever annoys them without stopping other users from enjoying that content.

Otherwise everyone is rubbing everyone else the wrong way by not agreeing on subjective taste... and that kinda sucks.

First of all i want to say a big thanks for all the positive comments. Since i am the poor sod who built this thing i would like to say something about the cooling. THe fan in the bottom is more than enough to keep this perfectly chilled. The via board generates a very tiny amount of heat and the Cube has been running as a music and surf machine for 72+ hours with absolutely no tendencies to overheat. So now you know :)

@BABERG: Rule number one for those that just wish to stir trouble is to ignore them and at times they make it very very hard to ignore them I understand that. But giving them attention gives them more encouragement to continue on with what they are doing.

That said, this PC mod is awesome! I am one of the few that have not played portal but have listened to the song a whole lot and it always makes me smile. I do not get the obsession with most of the things(except the song) but it is still great to see creative mods like this done.

I still refuse to purchase one of the plush companion cubes. Even if they weren't sold out. Buying a sphere plush-thing with sewn-on corners is not the Weighted Companion Primitive that I want to own.
