I think they probably have the general idea for the plotlines, but not in hour long chunks that make for consistently good episodes. It would explain filler crap like the Nikki/Paulo storylines and half a season of Jack looking angsty and shaking his head in disbelief as Kate and Sawyer flirt with each other.

ScotteusMaximus

@Sloopydrew:

The "questions", now at critical mass, I feel (which isn't to say I can't see the creators adding even more!), only become worthwhile if there's a sufficient payoff. The longer they persist, both mysteries big and small, the less likely we'll get gratifying resolutions. Personally, I'm kind of afraid of a "Matrix" scenario where we get a series end that doesn't really do anything but skim the surface of what force(s) is/are behind everything, leaves a metric f***ton of specific questions unanswered, and more or less 'resets' everything we just experienced over six years.

Unfortunately, there seem to be so many fans of shows and films like this that DON'T want any more specific explanations than they absolutely have to have, so they can ruminate on message boards for the rest of eternity over what they just witnessed, maybe even writing some terrible fanfics to offer their surely better-than-the-show-itself answers. Maybe that's you (to one degree or another), but it sure as hell ain't me.

The nebulous ending, of course, will also fuel more sales of any sort of 'expanded universe', be it through websites, comics, novels, video games, and maybe even a post-series movie. So, yeah, I expect frustration come roughly late-May of '10.

jollydwarf

I think knowing the end would spoil the fun. People complaining that the show asks more questions than it answers probably should be watching a show other than Lost. It is a show about questions. And the journey, rather than the destination. And malicious black smoke. I am a little jealous they got to find out what that's all about. And I'm very much looking forward to this game.

Sloopydrew

Are you SURE you have a firm grasp on where they are and what's going on? You may want to share that with, oh, everybody else watching. The show is a bunch of Chutes and Ladders as far as I'm concerned. Just when you think you've got a lead on what's going on and where it's going...back to Square One.

Now that they know the show is ending after Season Six, I think we start getting concrete answers this season. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean we'll get them all or even most of the important ones.

jollydwarf

I think I'm going to buy it on Day One, but keep it in the shrinkwrap until at least four or five (somewhat) reputable reviews come in. I'm thinking the game will need at least a 60% aggregate rating to justify opening up at the $60 pricepoint.*

I swear, I can almost see the 1up.com "2.0" review right now. And yes, I consider them to be one of the ever-dwindling "reputable" sites out there.

P.S. Gamespot is no longer trustworthy in my opinion, and IGN never really was. Actually...it's kind of 1up/EGM + overall Gamerankings score for me.

They also had all the characters' backstories figured out from the start (or from whenever that specific character was introduced, at least), and in a recent podcast they let slip that they were starting to run out of backstory on a few characters, but needed a firm commitment for how many seasons/eps they'd have left to do before the show ended before they could introduce the flash-forward show mechanic.

@ArmyofJuan:
It is. That becomes very clear late in the 3rd season, but yeah, it's definitely not anything that we could have conceived of when its presence first became known. And we still don't know _exactly_ what it is or does or how it works.

@EnigmaNemesis:
He also featured heavily in Alias (then again, Locke showed up there once or twice as well, which is how he got cast in Lost).

Purple Dave
