A simple trip to the ESA website would have told you all you need to know, yet you sit and generalize making up facts as you go along. For this, I, like many gamers will not forgive you. Ignorance is what has driven this country (the US) down the drain over the course of the last 7 years, and while that's an extreme example, it shows that it can not be tolerated. Do yourself a favor and RESEARCH before you put your foot in your mouth. If you truly think that a 5 second PG-13 side boob and kiss is objectionable (after 30 hours of gameplay), I think you need to reassess your moral standing.

100:1 odds that this guy found the Mass Effect "sex tapes" on youtube when he was searching the keyword "sex".

Anyway, none of his half-assed backpedaling or back-handed apologies change the fact that this guy is an awful writer. That is, unless he is actually an undercover agent from The Onion or something, in which case he is terrific.

I love this. Nice of him to apologize (but, as written, evidentially only because of the "multitude of response")to our entire gaming "universe", not just to the gamers who "share his concern for decency in the entertainment of our children" whom are inspiring his apology. Ok, I want my children entertained "decently" too, I guess...

I also like his inclusion of some statistic- it always makes you seem like you know what you are talking about if you throw around some percentages. "Though can't we do better than 42%?" Yes, you can. X>42%.

"...then the critical concern I carry with me deeply in regards to minors getting inappropriate material and spending tens of hours at a time removed from society absorbing it will be minimized." As others pointed out, his posts contained more "inappropriate" material, by his standards, than the whole of Mass Effect. (violence is totally ok, remember)

Still- what the fuck. Does this guy ever turn on the television? It is really awful- all sorts of heavily sexualized violence, particularly towards women, all the time. His deeply-carried "critical concern" should be focusing on that which is much more profound, widespread and accessible.

He wraps up his apology by concurring, with himself, that the "objectionable" content is still "offensive".

Well, the apology is the right thing to do. He could/should have noted more of the blatant inaccuracies, and his first rebuttal shouldn't have been so haughty, but he could have just put this to bed or dragged it out.

He made the right move by acknowledging his mistakes. People should keep that in mind, for what it's worth. Most in his position wouldn't do that.

This apology is better than nothing, though it seems he's still trying to maintain some of his own ground rather than deliver himself to the enemy. What's amazed me the most throughout his editorials though is the lack of love in them. I expected much better of someone who calls himself a Christian. Anyone can hate their enemies and resort to threats and name calling, but it takes a true man to show love to one's enemies, to demonstrate compassion, patience, and understanding in pursuit of peace.

Good that he apologized and acknowledged the error of his ways. Even better than the calmer members of the gaming community offered to help clarify his misunderstandings.

There will always be folks who rally against things they don't understand. It's our duty as *educated* gamers to not get angry and instead inform those who don't "get it" so that they put away the pitchforks. If this guy's main concern is that adult content is being marketed/sold to children, then I can understand his worry. He obviously went about his crusade all wrong and learned the hard way that there's more to such things than meets the eye.

I loved Mass Effect. I am also a parent and do not think children should play it without the consent of their parents. So even if Mr. McCullough came off as a raving lunatic (and misrepresented the facts) I can see where he is coming from. It's not good for us to react by being equally venomous or hateful, either. It just makes the problem worse.

What an ass. First, calling us gamer-nerds is flat out insulting and doesn't help his credibility at all.

Second, while I have no problem with him complaining about kids getting their hands on M-rated games, I have a huge problem with his attitude towards videogames, least of all Mass Effect.

He completely undermines all of the incredibly hard work and passion that goes into making a game like this, and writes it off with zero respect. Here is a game, which is going to have a bigger effect on people than he will likely ever have in his whole life, and he doesn't even have the respect to find out what it's really about before slamming it as if he was an authority on it. People like this love to take advantage of the fact that the majority of gamers are not old enough to vote; they try and side with other potential videogame critics for personal gain. Do you know what REALLY irritates me about all this?

I'M a parent.

I have a 4-year-old son.

A 4-year-old son that I have NO problems monitoring what games he plays, because I'm the one buying the games FOR him, and because he can't go 5 minutes before proudly announcing how far he's gotten in Sonic Adventure 2 or Lego Star Wars.

However, in a few years time (despite obvious supervision at home), I will have little-to-no ability to prevent him from seeing the TRULY perverted and oft-times ILLEGAL material that's obtainable on the internet with a few clicks of a mouse button. The kind of material that I've seen, yet which hasn't affected me because I'm further along in my mental development than he is (the worst I experienced was a Playboy magazine when I was 12).

So all I can do is hope and pray that this kind of material doesn't end up warping his young mind, because the politicians are more obsessed with restricting the sales of Grand Theft Auto and Mass Effect than they are about children watching 2 Girls 1 Cup.

He's an obscure writer (I use that term VERY loosly) who the closest thing to fame he will ever get is this. he would like the gaming community to continue to discuss and bash him, because this is as good as it's gonna get for him.
