I certainly agree that the Tony Hawk and Medal of Honor franchises should be put out of their respective miseries. But I think Tomb Raider and Manhunt both have huge potential as powerhouse franchises. I personally liked the first Manhunt because of the stealth aspect, but the controls implementation was done poorly. As for Tomb Raider, there are so many directions that can be taken by Eidos and other devs to make Tomb Raider great. I just remember playing the first one on the PS and being turned off on the game after. Also, there's no justification as to why the Nintendo franchises should be "blobbed" together like that. I mean, I'm getting pretty damn fed up with all the Mario Parties. It's like the never ending hangover. But Kart and Brawl have such large gaps between releases that they really do just keep on getting better and better. I do have one last disagreement and please, don't hate. Yes, Grand Theft Auto has been getting better, but it has had its fallouts (i.e.: Liberty City/Vice City Stories/Original Vice City). They pale in comparison to San Andreas and 3. Once again, please don't hate :)

jpgnotgif

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned the need for a major change in Donkey Kong. The arcade game was one of my favourites. Heck, Donkey Kong Country rivaled even my love for Super Mario 1! It all went wrong somewhere around the transition to 3D- much like what happened to Sonic.

What we have now is not much different than what's happened to either Sonic or Mario. Leaving its roots in platforming behind, and having either some touch/movement based game (King of Swing, Barrel Blast.) I don't think we should be getting rid of him completely and totally- I just think that we should find something better for Mario's first co-star to be doing.

And for the record, I disagree whole-heartedly with the idea of less Mario games. I've never been disappointed by one of the non-educational game release.

Aerokii

If SSBB is as good as being said, how can anyone want it dead? And sure, Mario is overexposed. Sure, all-too often I look at the roster in a Mario game and realize just how bare the cupboard somewhat is. But there's still something so entertaining about racing gokarts or playing soccer with a fat plumber and his fatter evil almost-twin. It beats games going with generic "extreme" characters.

Burnout getting better? Not from the demo of Paradise, which I found unplayable, although reviews are suggesting otherwise.

GTA getting better? San Andreas was a bloated piece of garbage. So bad. Terrible plot, terrible jokes, terrible need to eat, terrible need to exercise, terrible shopping with insanely long loading... pretty much every "feature" added was an exercise in frustration. Bloated and half-baked. At best.

MosquitoControl

Oh, a lot of you guys are harping on the guy for saying they should get rid of smash. Thats not what he said at all. He didn't even say get rid of Mario, he just said that there are just so many Mario tie ins out there and that maybe they should be thinned out a little. One per console generation. Get your Mario Galaxy then your Mario Kart Then your Smash, and I can't believe I'm saying this, then you get your Mario Party, BUT JUST ONE. This should be Mario Party Wii, not Mario Party 8.

Ptolemy

It also had these things called Chau to collect. Don't get rid of Sonic, just remove all of the cheesy dialogue and human kissing and make a good game.

I'm a bit confused, how can you say "its like they're not even
trying" about the new tony hawk game when they have the best video
editing tool in any game ever?

Not to mention the controls are arguably more precise than skate and level design which puts skate's levels to shame.

The biggest complaint one can lodge against the new tony hawk games
is that they're "too hardcore", at this point the series is near
impossible to get into for one that isn't a seasoned veteran of the
series.

Which is a serious problem, but not the kind of problem caused by "not trying".

brent_w

I actually thought that was a decent article for a non-game site, especially when you look at the other articles doing the rounds at present.

No real objections to the list either. Even as a long time Nintendo gamer I probably wouldn't mind seeing a little less of Mario. Sure, I couldn't do without Galaxy and have thoroughly enjoyed many of the Mario sports/party/miscellaneous games, but the latter selection would probably have been no less fun with someone else on the box.

No point getting caught up on specific games though. While there is plenty of room for characters to reappear, sometimes it's better for them to be left alone.

Toothball

@Nirolak: Yeah the Sonic Games have been dissapointing since Shadow the Hedgehog. Whos god damn idea was it to give Shadow guns!? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!! ARGHH!!!!

They took a franchise I have loved when I was little to shit. They need to take their time on the Sonic Games. I mean the storylines are good but the gameplay and lack of optimization ruins the newer Sonic games.

I was really looking forward the 360/PS3 outing but I was so dissapointed to learn it was a fucking mess. Loading times are a joke, I wish the game would get patched lol thats a pipedream right there.

They should just stick to making XBLA or PSN 3D remakes of the classic Sonic Games like in the Sonic Rush style of 2D Gameplay with 3D Graphics. I'd love a Sonic CD remake anyday.

@Striderhayasa: MegaMans been out for 20 years. I really like the MegaMan/Rockman games but the only game I have hated out of the series is Rockman X7. The mix of 2D and 3D gameplay doesn't go well at all and I am glad in X8 they went back to 2D gameplay with 3D graphics. I don't really like the Battle Network games but the Zero and ZX games of the series have been awesome and have kept the gameplay and difficulty of the previous MegaMan games.

Anyways, I think Kane and Lynch can't have a sequel, purely because its a crap game, 1 million copies sold is an outrage and I can't believe that many copies sold and it would help if that was the only game. Other than that, they should improve in K&L if they want a sequel.

rockmanjoey

We don't need to see any more World War 2 shooters for the rest of the millenium. That goes for Medal of Honor, Brothers in Arms, etc. etc. I can agree with the need for MOH to just die.

As someone who didn't like skate, I don't think Tony Hawk Pro Skater needs to die but at the same time, there is absolutely no need for it to be a yearly title. Activision forgot to exercise common sense on this one. You don't just tell your dev's to keep on cranking out yearly iterations when it's obvious that the dev. team has run out of ideas. Hell, the dev. team at Neversoft should have flat out told the bigwigs at Activision that Tony Hawk needs to be a title that comes out every other year. Tony Hawk needs a refresh and a SERIOUS one at that. The last Tony Hawk game that I really enjoyed was THPS 3 and that was more than 7 fucking years ago.

Considering critical reaction, Tomb Raider has been outclassed in its genre with games like Uncharted. It can still co-exist but the series is not dead nor does it need to die. Both Spyro AND Crash Bandicoot need to be revived, as they used to be great franchises. Manhunt is just an interactive snuff film and the franchise is not worth the heaps of bad publicity it brings to Rockstar.

Finally, when the author has the temerity to insult Nintendo's franchising of its characters, he loses ALL credibility. We see one Mario game per generation. We usually one see one Smash Bros., one Mario Kart, one Zelda, one Donkey Kong, one Kirby. At the most, you'll see two. So what the hell is the big deal? I think everyone that is looking forward to Brawl has a giant F-U lined up for this guy.

As for the end of his list, Burnout Paradise takes the series in a negative direction and will be a flop. Criterion fucked up badly making the game open world and taking out the offline multiplayer, in addition to neutering crash mode. A lot of the series that are supposedly getting better have only been good/relevant for one entry and quite frankly, you need TWO to be considered something that is getting better. Call of Duty and Resident Evil fit that bill. COD 4 and RE4 restored the relevance of those franchises. As for Guitar Hero, Half Life, GTA, and R&C, those series have definitely gotten better progressively. I'll even excuse the fact that the latest R&C didn't have multiplayer, since the single player is the best that it has ever been.

Gagamus

Not the best list. I agree with a few of those, but honestly has there really been a huge surge of Pac Man games lately? I know there were a few aweful platformers and the like around the SNES-era but I haven't seen that much from the franchise except the excellent XBLA title. I don't think it belongs on the list simply because I don't see them really over milking it (as much as others anyways).

I really disagree with Tomb Raider. About two years ago I wouldn't have, but Crystal Dynamics has really turned that franchise around and make it playable again. Plus, you know, it's nice to have an engine that wasn't designed for the first game in 1996 back when 3d gaming was new and crappy :P

And Mario I disagree with too. He's in a lot of games, sure. But they are actually *quality* games. With the exception of the Mario Party franchise (which as mentioned already, needs to die), most side-Mario games are well developed and stand-alone. They don't *need* Mario characters - they'd probably still sell. But the Mario characters make them fun (why use random nobody baseball players when you can have Mario and co. holding the bat?). In particular, his inclusion of Mario Kart and Smash Bros (!! Not even exclusively Mario!) in that is rediculous.

Anyways, as was said, Mega Man definately needs to be on that list. They were driving the franchise into the ground in the NES days. The X series was a refreshing change, and so was Legends, but then they just went crazy and now we have a bazillion sequels. They need to at least slow down the sequel generation and focus on quality again.

I'll also add the Final Fantasy franchise to this list. Most of the games are standalone and that's ok, but lately SE is getting port, spinoff and sequel crazy.

WarlockSoL

While I don't play the other frachises, we all know that the last instalment of the series was really innovative and it has even achiveid teh second position in gamerankings.

@blaked567: The difficulty in GH3 is absolutely not natural. All they've done is taken what would have been 2 note chords and made them 3 note chords. Here's a hint: if you make power chords 3 note chords, what's left to use for full chords? If they try to put a 4 note chord in a guitar hero game I'm going over to Neversoft's house and spitting in their faces.

In Guitar Hero one, during fast sections like solos you usually didn't have to "play" all the notes you are actually hearing. In GH2, they fixed this so that you are, as accurately as can be done on a 5 button controller, playing all the notes that the guitar is playing in the song. That was a natural progression of difficulty from one game to another. GH3 is an example of absolutely artificially making a game more difficult than it should be.

You know what one way to make it more difficult would have been? Choose more difficult songs to add to the game. There's no reason for the fucking Sex Pistols to be in a Guitar Hero game, or the Killers (they have you playing the friggin' keyboard part for crying out loud).

Anyway, I play, and am quite proficient at playing, actual classical guitar. That being said, Guitar Hero 3 caused an injury in my left hand and now I can no longer play it for fear of permanent injury. Is that natural? My hands are used to playing actual guitar, for crying out loud.

dowingba

All you have to do is point a gun at the heads of the developers and force them to not give any of the characters angsty backstories. Maybe limit it to 2 tragic incidents in the past (total). That might kill Final Fantasy, but I think Namco Tales Studio could handle it.

@nightram:
I'd imagine local play could use the DS as a controller (as everyone and their mother has a DS to spare). But, as there's a version of Pac-Man Vs. already available in NamcoMuseum DS, I could see a WiiWare version being an online game.

@MarquisMark:
You must've missed out on the two PSP remakes: Megaman Powered Up and Megaman: Maverick Hunter X, which were remakes of the first games of the Classic and X series, respectively.
MMPU added two new Robot Masters (Oilman and Timeman), the ability to play as all eight Robot Masters, Protoman and Roll as playable characters, a challenge mode, and a level builder.
MHX remixes the old stages a bit (upgrade capsules are in different spots), adds Vile as a playable character, and the anime OVA "The Day of Σ".

And, personally, I've found the Zero and ZX games to be great. Battle Network and StarForce are meh, though. And Legends needs a revival.

---

And personally, I don't think Mario needs to retire. Generally, his games are quality, both the main games and the side-games (a few side games I don't care for, like Mario Party, but they can't all be winners).
Are new IPs a good thing? As long as the game itself is fun, sure. You can create a new, interesting IP, but the game can be completely dull or unplayable.
We shouldn't care whose face is plastered on the box, as long as the game is fun. There's even some life left in Sonic as long as he's kept away from SONICTEAM.

BPMν

@MidnightScott17: They split the team up after Sonic 3, apparently. Obviously didn't work too well.

We know this guy has no credibility, can we leave Sonic out of this? Sonic CAN have good games made about him.

Spyro seems to have been abandoned by Insomniac in favour of fresh IP, let's put the poor dragon out of his portable misery. Megaman games seem to be nothing but shovelware these days. Tony Hawk has suffered EA-itis, but it could go either way and probably won't.

And the other half seem to be just series he thinks are too old. Really, it's a slight improvement for mainstream gaming coverage but he still has no idea what he's on about.

Sabre_Justice: Okay, no more long name.

The best 3D Sonic game will always be Sonic Adventure, for me anyway. Sonic Adventure 2 was made by Sonic Team USA which explains why it wasn't as good as the first game.

The handheld Sonic games have been good though....Sonic Advance 1, 2, 3, Battle, Rush, Rush Adventure...

I'd like to see an actual 'end' to a story. All too often we see the story added on, tacked a few extra levels. A expansion, then a reboot once it has run it's course so they can cash in all over again. MegaMan himself, I love him to death, has had how many reboots?

What ever happened to reading a book, and getting to the end. With the Harry Potter stories (I read them, fuck you I read them alright!) It came full circle. In gaming? It's rare to get this.

Why? Because it's a cash cow. Companies want to bleed it dry. Even when we have Halo ending. We have 2 expansions coming over the hill. ioshock? Lets do a prequel. Kingdom Hearts? I have no fucking idea where that story went to.. Don't get me started on Silent Hill. Great story, but what the hell.

My point? Let series complete there paths, and let them go. Let them be and move on to the next tale. The next big thing. Go out with a bang rather then leave with a wimper.

huginn

@blaked567:
I agree. The GH3 boss battles were annoying but easily pushed aside. Otherwise it was what I wanted: More original tracks instead of covers, still a bunch of good bonus songs, more difficulty and variety in note charts, and higher complexity but looser timing because Guitar Hero has always been crazy with timing compared to even hardcore games like Beatmania IIDX.

The ad placement? Ok, the Axe guitar is silly, but I didn't buy it. The rest is... *shrug* like I care, it doesn't get in the way.

The animations? Didn't seem so terrible to me, but I'm actually playing the game. Lip synching is good, and the characters don't wander around and get lost in the scenery anymore, so that's fixed. The drummer? Yeah, I noticed he's choppy. Who stares at the drummer? I'm looking at the note chart and my character... speaking of which, I found the Guitar Hero games only EVER had one or two characters that looked good, while the others were silly cartoon characters... I used to like Judy Nails - not now in any form. Used to ignore Casey Lynch, but they added an alt costume that's ok. Midori is some kind of mutant, haha... so it's about par for the course for a GH game still.

Other than that, they've kept shockingly true to form in visual style, comments on load screens, etc. Except now I can play it on my laptop too, so that rocks... I don't get all the hate for it, but it seems to be a Kotaku cultural thing since the sales tell another story.

I'm still thinking that if you told me 8 years ago that a rhythm game would even be mainstream in North America I'd laugh and go "yeah, I wish!" and go back to Beatmania and Pop'n Music... I like the whole series, but to be honest, while I appreciated the mechanics of 2 over 1, the songlist was really hit and miss for me and I probably only played about 1/4 of it regularly. 3 is a big refresher that way too.

fuchikoma

I agree half and half.

Pokemon is an AMAZING franchise, when you think about it.

It's battle system has gotten more complex with each release and its breeding system is quite amazing as well. There are so many more things I could talk about, but there are simply too many.

However, I agree that a lot of the newer beasts leave me with a WTF feeling.

Then again, I've been saying since I heard of the 3rd Gen that they should stop adding so many new monsters.

There are soooooo many ways the series could go if there weren't so many damn monsters.

One example is the MMORPG that fans have craved since forever. But it'll never happen now that they have literally 500 character models that they'd have to create and animate to have every monster available.

Mact

Having now read the article, here are my thoughts:

Tony Hawk - I agree. It should die. How different can you make the same skateboarding game after so many iterations? I didn't even find it terribly entertaining the first time around. I can't imagine that anyone who did still does.

Spyro - KILL THE BEAST! Spyro died a long time ago. Then they went and tried to rewrite his story. He flopped again. Understand, fools. No one wants your damn dragon!

Mario - The author has lost all sense. Mario has been in so many games because 1) The originals were good enough to warrant sequels and 2) Because they were not the same damn game. If you want to complain about Mario Party, fine. It got old around round five. Mario Kart is a hugely fun and popular game, with something new in each generation so far. Also, Smash Bros is not a Mario game. Besides, there have been more iterations of Halo in the past seven years than there have been Smash Bros.

As for anyone who complains about the primary Mario titles... Gamerankings has Mario Galaxy at #2 game of all time for a reason.

Mact

Parts of it aren't that bad (for $20), but parts of it are just incredibly frustrating (taking pictures while in the hard to control "nail a ________" mode). It would be nice to see Neversoft take a break from the series (maybe work on a new Gun game, or a Guitar Hero game that does something new) and bring it back a few years down the road with some new innovations.

Doomstink

Honestly, I'm okay with even lousy franchises so long as their games only come out once, maybe twice, per console generation. I think franchises get out of control and lose their quality and need to be 'put down', as it were, only when you have a new sequel/prequel/spinoff every Christmas.

Compare the hums and haas when a developer announces a sequel to great title a year or two after the first one came out, to the sheer undulated JOY when a developer revisits a franchise last seen five or ten years ago. Starcraft II anyone?

ParanoidIndividual

I do agree that most of those franchises do need to go to the big console in the sky, however, some of those are wrongfully doubted. Mario, although running on his 20-something year, still seems to be going strong. If Nintendo can keep revolutionizing the modern platformer, then who cares how old the plumber REALLY is? With Tomb Raider it's different. Lara Croft's adventures are bordering on the mediocre. She is perhaps heading toward the great bargain bin. All others I seem to agree with however.

MagnusGman

It didn't really burn it up in the sales department (which I still can't figure out) but it's a 2.5D remake of the first Mega Man with a TON of new features and way-too-cute art direction. The simple level editor (and the zillion levels you could download) made it a perfect Mega Man resurrection, but I don't think we'll see another since this one didn't do so well financially.

NPlace

There's really not much I can say that hasn't already been said. I can understand the notion of his idea to end some series that have been protracted for so long, but I feel that his choices and reasons for such are inherently flawed. A lot of his choices are just him trying to insult the game and show that he doesn't like it.

He establishes no credibility or even set up some guidelines for how he decided such things. This guy is a moron, but I think he brings up a good point for discussion. Personally I see much more merit in most of the games he said should be stopped in contrast with sport titles. The best solution to killing off repetitive sports titles is to make one game and update the players and stats via downloads. That way they would only release a new game once they have a new idea for how the game should play. Alas they will keep releasing the same sports games in a pathetic attempt to make money.

Tony Hawk should definitely go to the grave. The series is to repetitive to go on.

I could see a reason to stop Pacman, but I doubt it will happen.

If they can keep making CoD then they can keep making MoH.

I've never really cared much for the tomb raider, spyro or manhunt series.

There are many more franchises that should end before Mario. Most mario games are of better quality than a large amount of titles out there.

Personally I don't think GTA get's better with every rehash. San Andreas was worse than Vice City in my opinion. And burnout does not get better.

Anywho most of the guy's comments are t3h st00p1d, but this is still a pretty interesting notion.

NeoAkira

We haven't had a new SSB in a number of years.

Also, Legends of Rock wasn't exactly "mind-blowing". They had two boss battles with "legends" (more like "legend" and some other guitarist) and another with someone I'm pretty sure doesn't qualify as legendary beyond how evil he supposedly is.

And somewhere in there was Brett Michaels, who I wouldn't exactly call a legend, especially after he starred in a reality show about finding love.

@iamnotdryad: Because Nintendo makes money only on gaming and nowhere else?

Noone's saying they shouldn't make new IPs, everyone in the gaming industry should push for new ideas, and for the most part, everyone does... But sticking to franchises is the core of the industry. Final Fantasy? Shit, the games aren't even similar outside of a few tunes or some blue menu screens. That doesn't mean they're not going to use the title to sell games. Sports titles? Unless the core of the rules of said sports changes, there's no reason to make another one once you've made a good one. The game itself doesn't change outside the faces.

Why doesn't Disney get rid of Mickey Mouse? Why not clean house and make entirely new stuff? Because people attach the names and faces of it's company to it's mascots. Nintendo IS Mario to a lot of people, just as Sega IS Sonic to others. Disney IS Mickey Mouse. And that sort of recognition is worth billions to companies. Sticking Mario on a sports title gets the mainstream to look at it.

If companies did nothing but take risks, you'd see a lot more crashes in the industry from companies who took the chance and made a game that was great... but nobody bought, because it happens all the time. Good games not getting enough sales.

Ampillion = That Man.

no matter what new IP or game comes out, and no matter how fresh it is now, it's always going to be whored out at some point.

remember when viewtiful joe came out? everyone loved it's "unique style" and loved it's fresh take on the old system, yadda yadda yadda. what happened? it made a sequel that was exactly the same as it's predecessor. and then spiraled into over saturation very quickly. (a smash bros. fighting game? come on.) the same thing happened to katamari, warioware, pikman, and other countless games.

it's easy to harp on sonic, or tomb raider, and even our jolly friend mario, but people buy it, no matter how shitty it is. someone likes it enough to purchase it. companies like to use what works.

and not to mention that the money for all these shitty retreads pay for original classics. lots of mega man money lead to taking a chance with viewtiful joe. lots of resident evil money lead to dead rising or lost planet. and so on. and hell, without resident evil 4, we might not have gears of war.

but i do agree with some of you, in that grand theft auto and guitar hero don't belong near the "keeps getting better" list, and also adding final fantasy.

iwontusemyname

That's not to say that I don't care for Harmonix. As soon as I can get my hands on a 360, Rock Band will be one of my first choices. It's just that freaking out over a change of hands when the new entry is playable, includes new features, and retains what fans want (save for art design, but that's for another discussion) is a little extreme, in my opinion.

Ninja-Z

Pac-Man: Yes.
Medal of Honor: No because although in recent years the games have declined, Airborne was a return to form and actually turned out pretty decent (so long as they keep moving up from here, it'll be good).
Tony Hawk: Yes, skate just killed it really.
Tomb Raider: Yes, it's all starting to get a little boring and samey, Underworld is the last chance for a revival.
Manhunt: Yes, no question.
Spyro: Depends, if they aren't even trying to return to previous form anymore then definitely but if they actually did try to make a game as good as the originals, it could be good.
Mario extras: No because while they are spinoffy, almost every single one of those spinoffs turns out to be great, even the sports titles.

Crash needs to die now though. He's been sold off to someone else and sucks now.

Sonic not quite yet. The spinoffs of main games, yes, they aren't like the Mario spinoffs that are actually good, those are truly bad. Sonic should have 1-2 more tries at a main title (not counting the Bioware DS RPG) before it's taken out. If they can get back up to Sonic Adventure level and make a 3rd one, it'd be great. Also, the Sonic RPG by Bioware sounds pretty awesome.

Samos42

@iamnotdryad: If I may add my two cents in on your inquiry, you don't need a new IP to have innovation and creativity. It seems that a lot of people expect innovation to be something along the lines of the Wii's motion controls or the DS's touch screen when it can simply be using a familiar character in a new way. That's why something like Mario Galaxy turns out to be so successful; it takes an old character and an old concept and refines it to the point where it feels new; that's innovation, albeit subtle in execution.

Ninja-Z

MARIO, i am so sick of italian plumbers that i could go outside find one and pay him to beat me to death with a pipe wrench. That said, all the marios up to 64 were fantastical. But they just keep on reusing the same formula, i wish that nintendo could inject a little life into this series. Galaxy is very fun, but i got bored quickly because i felt like i had been there before (as in the game) and killed that bad guy, beaten that puzzle, etc. the mario franchise has so much potential i find it sad that to me the games could not be as enjoyable as they were when i opened up my SNES

bobbus-maximus:killed a man with a toothbrush

omigod i gotta address something here. with rock band stealing all the gusto away from GH3, many have been saying that the series (GH) has jumped the shark, especially with the boss battles. before i played it, i tended to agree, especially with its apparent over-the-top difficulty.

however, after playing it, i think most reviewers are too n00bish to "get it" (sorry if that sounds completely pretentious!). i enjoyed GH1 and GH2's expert mode, but i felt that songs did not have enough button-pressing variety and that harder songs simply meant making them "more impossible," if you will.

GH3's difficulty blows GH1 and GH2's out of the water, but for some reason, the difficulty feels natural and not forced, and i'm having a lot of fun playing the more-varied tabs (not just between songs, but within them as well). my guess is that on medium or hard or even easy modes, this dramatic difference isn't as apparent.

anyway, anybody agree with me? maybe i'm just talking out of my ass. the boss battles still suck though, i'm not challenging that.

blaked569

While i wouldn't say they need to be put down, just put some quality check/control on the product. Take Sonic for example

We loved sonic as a culture
we were cool with sonic 2 / 3 as a culture
Sonic adventure 1 wasn't all that bad
but then you had sonic racing, sonic adventure 2, sonic racing 2, sonic doing a backfip, sonic vs his "shadow", sonic vs his shadow doing a backflip with a gun in his hand now, sonic next gen, sonic sports, sonic olympics

get the point? It's something thats obvious to us customers and gamers when to stop milking a cash cow. Sonic has run up dry at the moment, doesn't mean it won't ever sell big again because for all we know the next game that comes out might be the biggest selling game of all time period - BUT think about something before you release it. Devoplers ask yourself "I know what I want, I know what the publisher and the people want, why not do it?" You want your game to sell, so your publisher is happy, he pays you more money to devolep more games that you like so that we in turn buy.

you release a game we DON"T want to play in a series, we DON"T buy it, you DON"T get a renewal or another contract/job offer. - oh and i say "culture" referring to the gaming community, personally i never liked any sonic aside from 3 =p

Zaos

Smash Bros. should die just because Mario is in it? First of all, there have only been two Smash Bros. games prior to Brawl, and it is not a Mario-centric game. Secondly, I don't see why Nintendo needs to make less Mario games. The only examples of the porty plumber failing to satisfy are the endless stream of Mairo Party games and a few other offshoots that more or less have faded from the minds of many gamers. All the other examples deal with the level of quality throughout the sequels. Mario has done well for the most part.

Ninja-Z
