lastly, i'm a die hard fan, as in, i enjoyed the first three movies. so i suppose i could say then that they succeeded in catering to die hard fans? my point isn't to try to convince anyone that die hard 4 was good. the truth is that some people enjoyed it, and others completely detested it. i just don't like when people make adamantly definitive statements, per "die hard 4 was horrible and a complete failure, no ifs, ands, or buts."

this is sort of an aside, but some of the editors here have been making an increasing amount of annoyingly adamant and opinionated statements about stuff that isn't even related to video games. i feel like i know the editors since i've been reading kotaku for so long, and i feel some sort of friendly rapport...thus, i give them the benefit of the doubt. but the tone has been increasingly cocky and swaggering, and a bit reminiscent of destructoid, which i feel has jumped the fucking shark (i used to really like them too).

Die Hard 1 was the best in Die Hard Trilogy(explosive shotgun and extra life Elvis hostages FTW), then there was Die Hard: Nakatomi Plaza(PC, used Lithtech engine), which was okayish, then Die Hard for PS2/XBox/GameCube, which I also think was okaaaay, but I don't remember very well and I think reviewers weren't fond of it. There was Die Hard Arcade(Saturn, J-game Dynamite Deka I think, retrofitted with Die Hard people), where you beat people with frozen fish.

Oh yes, there was Die Hard Trilogy 2, but I could never get that to run without bugging up.

P.S. When the "f-bomb" is part of your catch phrase and is only removed to appeal to more sponsors and sell movie tickets to kids under 17 it is. When it's removed so you can make an 'unrated' version of the DVD with the "f-bomb" dubbed in everywhere to drive sales it is.

I understand making movies is all about making money, but there is a fine line between making money and selling out and the fourth movie crossed it.

I wonder, out of the people who liked the fourth, we're you even alive when the first one came out? Do you even get the concept of character continuity? There is nothing of John McClane circa 1988 in the John McClane of 2007. He used to be human.

Just like Transformers, it's corporate sponsored whoring of my childhood shot in ultra-high-def! Lots of pixels; no substance.

Shia LeBeouf and Justin Long should really make a movie together where they try to be like Ben Aflek only to realize in the end that they were already like him because they all suck like a shop vac.

DIe hard 2 isn't done by the man who did Die Hard 3 and one it is done by Renny Harlin who changed the whole feel of the movie to be some sad lethal Weaponesque affair. Both Die hard 1 and Die Hard 3 are done by John McTiernan most Die hard fans love 1&3 the most cause they both have John Mclain being a wise ass cop who is just to stubborn to quit, the musical score also plays a very big part of the mood being whimsical in a dangerous situation. Die hard 4 was lame and 2 was a good action flick but not a die hard movie.

Three and One are gems I can't understand anybody that liked Die Hard but hates three.

I was disappointed by Live Free and I think most of it has to do with the PG rating. I mean, his signature saying "Yippe kayay motherfucker" was muffled by a gun shot. Shitty. And Timothy Elephant (HA) was forgettable as the nemesis.

With a Vengeance is my favourite for a lot of reasons. My main comparison between 3 and 4 is the state of John McClane towards the end of the movie. In 3 he is a walking fountain of blood with one arm completely soaked from shoulder to fingertips in it. At one point he pulls a piece of wire out of his shoulder with his teeth so Zeus can use it to pick the handcuffs attaching them to the biggest bomb in the movie.
Towards the end of 4, he has a few scratches and bruises. Maybe a cut or two. Yawn.

You also have Jeremy Irons as a sadistic nutjob who spends his time toying with McClane and planting bombs around the city whilst heisting and obscene amount of gold. How can a computer nerd trying to hack the internets even compare to that?

And top it all off with Sam Jackson being Sam Jackson

Now, if they make a Die hard 5.0, I would suggest that there be a plot where these movie entertainment industry "analysts" plot to further destroy the Die Hard series, only to have McClane bust his way into that board room and kick ass!

Then proceed to the end where he throws people out of a 100-story floor window for effect.

Mac guy: Hi, I'm a mac
McClane: And I'm gunna throw you out the window...
Mac Guy: Wha... NOOOOOOOOOOOO! [Insert Window shatter]

The character was great in Die Hard 4, I thought - he does these things that he's not quite sure if it'll work or not, and when he does.. he's as shocked as the audience. I love that.
