Rock Band has its terrible reputation because of it's terrible-quality peripherals - I've never felt more ripped off. My old bought-used GHII guitar still works fine, my second-replacement-Rock-Band-guitar... only worked for maybe-48-hours. Fuck EA and Harmonix - this has been the biggest fraud on the gaming community ever, at least since Zelda II.

I'm all for this kind of peripheral, depending on what the "light show" doodad is like. If it's a decent moving multi-color thing, hell yeah. If it's a sad excuse for Christmas lights, umm no. Also, it depends if it's a pure sound sensor(lame but most probable) or if it actually interfaces with the game via USB or something to match up with events, or better yet, your current performance.

FYI: Fog machines -will- set off smoke detectors, just so you know...heh heh....*sigh*

Definitely wouldn't get it if I was playing on my own, but if you're playing with friends, you'd be too busy having fun/being silly/making fun of each other then trying to get the 'mood of a rock show'. For New Years we had like 20 people over and setup rockband in the living room (moved the sofa out of the way so people had room to stand and such) thinking a few people may want to play it and it would give some music for the rest of the party at least. It ended up being something that *everyone* wanted to play. Yes, alchol was involved, but it ended up being ALOT of fun believe it or not. If I was going throw another party and set that up, I would definatly get the addition.
If I was going to play it at home and just drum by myself, would I get it? Nope.

Rockband really is a party game, everyone bashing it seems to forget that, or don't have enough friends willing to make asses of themselves to warrent buying it.

If you're going to throw a party, borrow someones copy and see for yourself, I'm willing to bet it would be a hit.

But yes, this addon is really only good for large groups of people playing the game. Other then that, assuming it plugs right into a console and syncs to music, I'm willing to bet shortly after there will be a PC program to sync the thing up to your MP3 collection and such. (That would be great for a party too I would think).

Rockband was a hit at all the holiday parties we brought it to. And it's a really fun game. Honestly though this peripheral seems a little overboard. I could see if being useful at bars or something where they have Rockband set up like Karaoke.

A funny story though, at one of the parties I was at one of the people there said,

"All my musician friends hate this game because it isn't anything like playing real instruments"

To which I replied,

This fog and light show seems most ideal for businesses hosting Rock Band tournaments. If you set it up so that only the players could see the tv it would look pretty authentic. Hopefully they are going to program the smoke and lights for each individual song so that it matches up. On the other hand, downloadable songs will end up taking more time to create, possibly making prices higher.

Somehow i imagine this to be like... A couple of weak lights... Some wisps of smoke.. Cables you have to jiggle to get a good connection..

Actually all of Rock band makes me think of that. I have some kind of odd apprehension towards it. I guess it's partially the abandonment of the score attack mentality (which i adore about GH), but also because i just know there's no way in hell i can get enough friends in on it to make the most of the game. I don't even have room at my apartment to support it.

Ouch. 99! Thats...well expensive. And not really a great addition (in my opinion). I dont even have the game xD, but if I were to buy it, I wouldnt want this peripheral..

But seriously, this is a ridiculously useless add on. I'd rather have the 8-in 1 add on weapon pack for the wii, and try and fit it on my xbox 360 controller for maximum performance.

How much does that make then, like, $300 to play one game with all the accessories? And I thought I was crazy to buy a new HDTV & 5.1 to max out the MGS4 experience. But I got a full blown gaming console by doing that at least. This.....is just useful for a single game.
