I think they're doing this to make a "game" out of it worth playing. I mean, it looks great, art direction is great, user content... also great.

But if it isn't FUN, then why bother? And nobody knows (fanboys of either side, take note) whether or not the game in its current state is fun.

For what it's worth, I thought Rag Doll Kung Fu was an unplayable mess, critical darling though it was. I say let it bake. LBP can only get better with time.

I can name a lot of releases from 2007 that could have used some more tuning in the gameplay department.

But yeah, they need to stop hyping games 2 years in advance.

9 months give us enough time to imagine all sorts of "creative" levels, if not then Echochrome, Soul Cal, MGS 4, Singstar, and GT Prologue, tis' all good. One more idea for LBP: How about a game of four in a row, with each pieces being released by a mechanism in the level, pretty good right? "Pretty sneaky sis..."

By the time this comes out my PS3 will be taking a back seat to the new top of the line 9 series Nvidia GPU for the PC. Why so long. I would prefer something other than Uncharted (I love it)to play now. I am a PC gamer with a PS3, and so titles like UT3 etc. are for the PC for me. Well I guess I will wait with the rest of you. Looks fantastic.

Damn LBP is getting a crapload of press and hype lately, it seems we cannot go twenty minutes without new news on this amazing game (much like MGS4 rumors). Lets hope it does not go the way of Halo 3 and get too ambitious for its own good and result in an anti-hype backlash. Anyway I hope they at least release a multiplayer demo or open beta to at least appease us until the release date. After a year with a PS3 I am used to getting my heart broken over delays or crappy games due to rushed developers or ignorace, but this would really sting if this game got any further delays as well as GTA4 or MGS4. Luckily MM and Konami are obviously taking their time to make sure these games are in top form for release. In any case 2008 is the year of the PS3 (with exceptions for Nintendo's SSBB or possibly Wii Fit in North America).

i don't know how the game can take so long to develop, since most of the game is made by the players. there was supposed to be a demo/beta before 2008, so how can it suddenly be 9 months away?

it's like L4D - in late 2006 when it was first announced, they mentioned somewhere that they were planning a Q1 2007 release. somehow, it's ended up taking an entire extra year, possibly more. i don't understand how a game can be near completion one month and delayed a whole year the next. although it's not exactly rare these days - spore, mgs4, episode 2 ("it's due out in 2 months" - 2 months later: "it's due out in 18 months").

@DELETED: Considering the uniqueness of this game, it's no surprise that they wanted to show it off so early. Also, it's such an ambitious project. The wait for this game surrounded by the hype kind of reminds me of Spore. If this were a PC game rather than a console game, though, I don't think it would really seem that odd that we are having to wait so long for the game.

@Troyd: I don't think the issues for either of those games were due to being rushed. Lair's issue is just that you are forced to use the sixaxis controls, so if you don't like them, you're not going to like the game. Warhawk's issues were network issues, which is nothing surprising and difficult to deal with without the game being released to spot all the network errors.

@Shijirou: I personnaly would rather not have another Lair. Instead of rushing titles (lair, warhawk), they should be giving titles as much time as they need to produce quality results. So they can be a delightful and fulfilling from the start rather then a month later when its finnaly patched. Same goes for home..i want something that works and is worth the wait.

As I said before, think of it this way:

The longer the wait = the more PS3's sold

The more PS3's sold = the copies purchased

The more copies purchased = the larger LBP community

Bigger community = better chances of a viable successful game

I know many want this now, but I'm glad it's coming out later. Plus they get to polish it up like crazy. It sounds nearly done already, just imagine what these 9 months will provide.

I would imagine this has something in part to do with the desire to integrate it with Home so you can upload share levels. Since Home isn't out yet or near completion, maybe this is why? The game certainly looks 60% there vs 10% to require a Sept launch
