How do you lose a Game Save??? As your gamesaves are stored locally.....i really don't see how they would be affected by any problems with XBL.

Now transferring your account back and forth between systems....well.....that could be an issue.

A word of advice: Invest in a memory card....I have 2 different XBL accounts and its great to be able to just hop onto any 360 or a friends house and have your gamertag to play with.

How much are the original 64MB Memory Cards nowadays anyway?

After doing so I realized that I hadn't been on Live for 2 months so I was missing some points. No big deal. At that point I got the same gimped version of my account - not only losing 2400 points (No biggie) but also ALL of my Halo 3 saved data, BioShock data, and Tomb Raider Anniversary.

At first I thought I was an idiot. But then I realized my 360 has a hard drive. Needless to say, I was pissed.

The downloads would get to 99% and then it would say, "Couldn't download XXX " even though it was taking up the space on my HD it shows the ! and Rock Band wouldn't load them. I know how you feel about being lucky. Our launch 360 was doing great while everyone else was having trouble...until the beginning of December when it finally gave us the RROD. Microsoft did send us a brand new 360 though so that was nice. Then the Live problems hit and we've been having trouble with for about 3 weeks on and off. Then I hooked up my Rock Band Christmas present and the strum bar was broken within the first 4 hours of play time. Now the red drum is acting up...and our Rock Band USB Hub has two failed ports. It was all going so smooth too.

I still love my Xbox 360 though (well, the new one at least) and we play it all the time.

Like any service that requires access to large stores of user data, they likely have a redundant database, meaning that if something were to go wrong, they could recover with minimal downtime and little to no loss of data.

Considering that Microsoft sells the software for other businesses to do just that, it seems like a no-brainer that they'd be employing this sort of technology in what is arguably the most publicly-visible aspect of their business.

Naten has a point, in that the issues that we are seeing could merely be communication issues. The Xbox 360 seems to be smart enough to soldier on even if it can't draw the data it needs from Xbox Live... my ISP was having some awful traffic issues a while back, and it slowed Xbox Live access to a crawl for me, and as a result, the Xbox 360 couldn't pull the updated menu images down. Instead of refusing to work until the images had been downloaded, it simply went on without them. Made the dashboard look ugly, and made it hard to navigate, but at least I could play games. I think it's entirely reasonable to suspect that the known Xbox Live issues are at the heart of this.

I'd be the last person to defend Microsoft, but in this case, I have to admit that they're not idiots, and they probably know what they're doing when it comes to setting up and maintaining an on-demand service. So far it looks like most of the people complaining of lost achievements are idiots and 12-year-olds who have no idea how any of this works, and are just pissy that maybe all that time trying to collect achievements in Halo 3 really was a big huge waste.

Last night I logged on and it said I was a 39. When I started playing, it said I had 2000+ points until I hit 40 and I didn't have any of my wins, kills, new weapons, etc. I had also completed a couple of challenges that I had to repeat.

Not the end of the world but a frustrating glitch to say the least.
