Why does everyone always assume that if a Mario game was on a different console it would be photorealistic?

As for SMG being on another console, I'm all for it. However, I want to see cartoonish Mario surroundings instead of a more realistic feel if the characters are stillrendered in a cartoony way. It would creep me out to see a Mario game with a realistic character design. How old exactly is Mario and Princess Peach?

Photo-realism is expensive. Just ask the MGS4 team. Nintendo keeps their budgets geared at gameplay and design, not photo-realism. They've made a metric ass tonne of money doing so.

That's an absolutely awful photochop. That's the best that his "production folks" could do?

In earnest, I wouldn't be happy with that version of Mario Galaxy. While I think photo-realism would be fantastic in many games, Mario isn't one of them. The cartoony worlds work well with the graphical style used in Super Mario Galaxy, and I'd like to keep it that way.
