Personally, I think it's gonna "Rock the Dragon" James Marsters is not only a fan of the series, so he's familar with the story. His favourite charractor is Piccolo. So he knows exactly how to bring the charractor to life. I can't wait to hear the Theme tune. I hope they do a really cool rock version, like Transformers the movie. I mean the version by Lion. ]]> <![CDATA[Early Dragonball Movie Images]]> ok look, to all of you who are paincking about the film adaptation to DBZ, I have to say a few things... first of all, it only makes sense to make goku a white guy, cause I dont know if you ever noticed or not, but most of the characters in DBZ look white, not Japanese. I mean freakin super sayians are white with blond hair and green eyes, come on!

Second, the producer of the film is the same guy who directed Kung Fu Hustle, Stephen Chow, and that was a very bad ass film with a lot of dragon ball z like moments, example the ending of the movie when the main character flies up in the air and comes right back down the atmosphere on fire and deliver a palm of death right on top of the bad guy, making a big ass hole on the earth. If you havent seen that movie then you should, and maybe you will shut up about how much the DBZ movie's gonna suck, bla bla bla. By the way the director of the film is James Wong, same guy that directed movies like "The One" (which was also very bad ass) Final Destination,Willard and other films that I have nothing bad to say about. Hes an excellent director, so I think those two would make a great team in bringing Dragon Ball to the big screen.

Third the people working on the special effects and action sequences are 87eleven the same people that worked on movies like 300, Fight Club, The Matrix, Constantine, The Bourne Supremacy, V for Vendetta, Van Helsing, X-MEN 3 and Daredevil. So calm down!

fourth the composer for the film is Brian Tyler who is the same guy who composed the music for the movie "Constantine" and a bunch more, but at least you know that the DBZ movie is not gonna have a cheezie hip hop sound track, ok.

RESEARCH, PEOPLE!!! Instead of bitching, why dont we make sure that they do it right? I for one have high hopes about this and nothing would be more bad ass than to see thouse phenomenal fight scenes we all love on the big screen with a big budget special effects, hey the good thing about this film is that is not gonna be a cheap half ass piece of crap. It seems to me that they're going all out with this film, great cast, great producer and director, great composer, and great special effects team, cant wait!!!

I thought 300 was poop. Anti mid east propaganda, might as well have titled it GO ARMY. The camera angles were so damn close you could barely see any action (what little of it wasn't in tired as over used slo-mo). So it's hard to say if the fight coordination was any good.

All that together just doesn't add up to a crack team to me.

Just the thought of how Goku's hair would look made me die a little inside. I did, however, attempt to cut them a little slack. I mean, there were twenty thousand different characters and story arcs, and it'd be damn near impossible to please everybody. Some people would bitch if they chose to use the very first story, some would bitch if they didn't put the Super Saiyans in, some would bitch because they didn't cram every single storyline from Dragon Ball to GT into two-and-a-half hours.

Even still, I can't cut them that much slack, as I am a Dragon Ball fan (not as much as I used to be, but still enough to care about the series). With all of the expectations riding on it, I'm pretty sure this thing will fail, and I'll continue to believe so until there is solid proof to the contrary.

When they first announced the movie, I said that they only way they had any chance of getting it right was to capture the feel of the DBZ, not necessarily the exact imagery in the anime/manga. Just like how X-Men would have looked ridiculous with yellow spandex uniforms, Dragon Ball Z, as a live-action movie, would have looked ridiculous with talking anthropomorphic animals leading tanks into battle and a guy wearing an orange karate gi around for no apparant reason. Seeing the movie in modern times is a huge, huge boost for the movie.

Granted, it's still almost certain to be awful, but I'm more optimistic now than I was before I saw this image.

I completely agree. I watched DBZ when I was a kid because it was the first anime I had ever seen. I thought it was great because, and I repeat, it was the first anime I had ever seen. Then I grew up and realized, "hey, this is a really terrible freaking television show." So I moved on to big boy anime.

Out of any of the people on here who are big DBZ fans, have you ever gone back and watched the show again, or do you just remember it fondly from when you used to watch it? If the latter is the case, go back and watch it again, and I can almost guarantee that you will stop caring about whether they get the movie right or not.

For those who don't know, the original DB features a much younger Goku going on various adventures, and is more or less a comedy/martial arts series, heavily inspired by Jackie Chan movies like Drunken Master. Characters appearing in the movie are limited to the original DB cast, meaning no Vegeta or Frieza, and the villain appears to be Piccolo Daimao (The Great Demon King Piccolo, father of DBZ's Piccolo).

The movie is being produced and overseen by Stephen Chow, director of Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, and it's being directed by the guy who did the Jet-Li movie The One and the X-Files. Chow's a big fan of Dragonball, and his comedic kung-fu films should be in line with DB's own style.

Stunt and special effects coordinators from 300 and the Matrix are also working on it.

In all honesty, this movie actually has a surprisingly high chance of turning out well.

This is looking so much like Street Fighter: The Movie it's scary. You got the plot that has nothing to do with the manga, the characters with different motives and personalities (Goku's gone emo!!!), and the disappointingly less-than-stellar special effects (The Kamehameha Wave is a flashlight, Kienza(Destructo Disk) a pizza pan wrapped in tin metal.)

Admit it, you know the movie will probably suck only slightly less than this.

They could have at least asked him to grow his hair a little longer. this is like watching a New Hope. Like in 20 years people are going to watch this and transformers, spiderman, and be like "Why did they take a story written way before that time, but do it with the stupid fad styles of that period. Now we have emo peter parker and emo Japanese Superman.

I want my damn Japanese superman movie to be good. One good Kamehameha could save it all. Maybe.. lol I've always wanted to see the fighting in DBZ translated into Matrix Revolutions style snazzy CG epic battles. That's what could save this movie from being a complete embarassment.

]]> <![CDATA[Early Dragonball Movie Images]]> My god! I've seen this screenshot (and a few other from the same scene/"behind the scenes" scene on freakin' MySpace over 3 weeks ago. Kotaku is way late.

Oh BTW: He's not getting HIT by the car. He is standing/walking by it. The scene isn't even being shot in those images. Look at the third image (on the site.. click the link). They are shooting the other way. These images were taken behind the scenes as he was walking to the area he needed to be onset.

I'm still going to give the movie it's fair chance before passing judgment.
