Our team played a game of all medics on Granary and it was awesome. We just formed a giant healing train and tested how long we could survive. Sure, we all got killed off before long, but it was epic.

These achievements do seem a bit too easy to pull off though, you could probably get 10 of them on one respawn without really trying. Regardless, it's good to see effort being made to encourage medics.

Were it not for the occasionally abusive attitudes some people have toward them when they don't heal and uber everyone EXACTLY how they want you to, there would probably be more medics out there. Some people can be real assholes to medics who are merely trying to do the best they can. I mean, unless they're ubering a sniper or spy... cut them a break.

russtophiles

I seem to live my life in online games as the healer, medic, priest, druid etc and TF2's medic is finally a system that rewards you for being a dedicated healer. The achievement pack seems like a bit of overkill though. I mean it looks like there's an achievement for getting all the other achievementsd as well...Scary.
I'd prefer the actual HL2 and HL2:Ep1 achievement sets to be put up. Maybe some fun CSS ones as well so I can relive the last few years.

Mattz

I don't really see the need to artificially boost the number of medics playing the game, and worse this is going to make a lot of the Medics "play wrong" because they will be trying to get achievements, not win games.

I've played enough games where almost half the team went Medic to organise a whole team ubercharge to not think Medic is "underused" and I think this will dangerously unbalance the game. They should have released 4 extra achievements per class in 9 batches rather than 32 all at once (I assume the other classes will get theirs in due course).

Lu-Tze

See, I honestly believe that the problem (Phenomena?) of asshole's being assholes is primarily with Xbox Live. I play TF2 constantly on the PC and in all seriousness, it's generally, say even 96% of the time a great place to hang out and play. No hyper-competitive-ness to the point of being not-fun, not an incredible amount of people bossing you around. It's a great scene. Sure there are people that lead the team, or complain when you are hurting the team, but again, it's a TEAM game. The entire battle revolves around playing like a single entity. If you're hurting the team you're going to get trash-talked, but even then it's usually just for fun. Not many people are overly douchebags.
It's strange though, you can say that it's just because the xbox brought multiplayer to the masses, but I think it's the sort of crowd that the xbox attracts that causes this behavior. Mind you, I'd love an xbox (I still haven't upgraded to a 360, I have 2 original's though) but Microsoft has chosen to market the xbox to the same assholes and jocks who play football and are already prone to dick behavior.
The PC TF2 is a completely different experience. For one, people actually play. A LOT. I've got a friend that has 78 hours logged in the past 2 weeks. (winter break :P ) Also you can actually play epic levels. There's no 16 person limit on the PC. I routinely play 32 man battles, and it adds a whole new level to the game. And most importantly, I think, are the levels. You aren't locked in to micro$ on the PC. There are tons of custom made downloadable levels (FOR FREE!) that completely push TF2 to the next level. I havent' played on a default level in the past month or so. it's just not as much fun.
So yeah, PC version is amazing. I really don't understand why anyone plays the xbox version at all... If anyone wants to play, my steamid is emoro42590, or look for me on tf2 with the id "-Lt.Tibbles-"

I'm sure they'll do more maps, and if they put them on live, you're allowed to add another 250 points worth of acheivements for your downloadable content... and in that spirit, I've come up with two for each class.

Spy:
*Awkward Pause (Secret) - Go face-to-face with the enemy you're disguised as (same name, same class).
*"I Got Yer Zerg Right Here" (Probably need a name that doesn't break copyright, but it was just too good) - Backstab someone in the middle of a taunt.

Heavy:
*"It's over 9000!" - Kill 5 enemies with your fists in one life.
*Who Touched Sasha? - Kill an enemy at point blank with your minigun. (Kinda easy)

Scout:
*A New Low (Secret, zero points) - Get backstabbed by a spy.
*Circle Strafer - Destroy a fully-upgraded sentry gun with just your bat.

Demoman:
*Barroom Brawl - Kill an enemy demoman with your whiskey bottle.
*Too Slow - Kill 3 scouts with your sticky bombs in one life.

Sniper:
*Boom Headshot - Get a headshot from 20 feet away or less.
*A Legitimate Tactic (Secret) - Camp while zoomed in for an entire match, not in resupply

Medic:
*Daisy Chain - Ubercharge a medic who's Ubercharging another medic
*Heal Plz - Heal someone who's playing for the first time (it's good to encourage newb friendliness, yeah?)

Soldier:
*Rule Breaker - Get 3 kills before setup ends on Well.
*Maggots! - Kill a cloaked Spy with your entrenching tool.

Engineer:
*They Never Learn... - Destroy 4 or more of the same spy's sappers before killing that spy.
*Texas Air National Guard (Secret, zero points) - Run like hell the second your turret is destroyed.

Pyro:
*Barbeque - Burn every member of the enemy team in one life (don't have to kill, just light them once)
*Hydrophobia (Secret, zero points) - Learn why Pyros don't like water (get killed while trying to use your flamethrower underwater)

I'm overly fond of the zero pointers, I know, but they're funny.

Dangeresque- Got temp banned and learned his lesson! (Crazy!)

When the 360 first launched, Live was a pleasure, because not many people had the system yet and those who did were those who could afford the $500 machine (ie: not kids). Now that there's tons of people around, it's degraded once again into how it was on the original Xbox. You just have to learn to mute and not let idiots get to you. Also, playing certain games will give you less of an idiot:normal ratio. A fighting game or a game like Rock Band seems to have alot of cool people whereas a shooter will automatically be full of lifeless tards.

dowingba

These are what 'achievements' should be used for. Valve is aware that these fake awards don't do anything, so they have made them do something: make people play the medic more. They've probably found that not too many people are using the medic, so they plop these in and you're instantly going to have more medics, at least for a while.

Whereas putting in an achievement for 1000 kills as a medic would NOT encourage anyone new to play as a medic, only reward players who already swear by the class.

Snake726

I love playing medic. I suck at uber though. Almost always waste it. I've never been too into achievements and find that when I pay any attention to them at all I end up paying more attention to them than to the actual game. (As in "Gehn (that's me, don't dis Myst), stop being scout, that sentry kills you five seconds after you spawn." "I don't care, I want my Head of Class and I'm not changing!")

Still though, having the game tell me how awesome I am at healing (but not ubering) is always great, so extra achievements are teh shiz.

Rubiximus

It's too bad there'll be an influx of nubbish medics who are just searching for more achievements. I love playing medic, and a skilled medic can turn the team around.

Of course, 90% of the TF2 population is just interested in frags and high scores, and the nuanced gameplay of the medic might just be too much for them to handle. However, with good communication and a good teammate, I've gotten 1st or 2nd on servers with 32 players using the medic exclusively.

PATSCRU

The only way you can even "play wrong" is if you tried to install the disk to a toaster or if you use hacks and bots to play the game online. So what if heavies punch all the time, etc. People can do as they please within a game, even piss off other players.

Custom Reality

@HigglyPiggly: ... maybe... you are playing the game wrong? Just a thought. Heavies shouldn't be punching all the time, medics shouldn't be healing snipers, and scouts shouldn't spend their time taunting in their intel room. Not saying you do those things, but they ARE ways to play wrong. After all, it isn't a single-player game, it is a team game. If you are on a softball team and you spend your time facing the wrong way and swinging, they are going to get pissed at you, no matter how much fun you are having.

Ghede
