Ok, now that that is over, just think of the other benefits of this game. For example, I strongly believe this will become the unofficial party game of fraternities everywhere. Just think of the drinking games you get with this.

I mean come on, the possibilities for this game are virtually endless and yet people are crying about the graphics? Honestly, I dont think I have ever heard a hardcore gamer whine about graphics (example: Diablo and Diablo 2, FFVII, Ultima)

If this game was a movie, it would be Fahrenheit 911 meets Epic Movie and the Wayans brothers. You are only hurting yourself if you dont want to play this game due to some crappy screenshots someone took with a phone camera from the arcade game.

Now change the enemies to babies, puppies, or kittens and I think you'd have a best seller there. But make it strange and give them all knives to fight you so it doesn't make sense at all, you know a knife wielding puppy in a factory/bank coming at you while you have a gun. Color me crazy, but I think people could get behind that.

I really like how they tried so hard to not be racist and made most of the "terrorists" white. Then they include an asian guy who karate kicks you at close range.

I played Target Terror at an arcade last night and it was the first time I had seen a "censored" version. The guns shot bright blue and green paintballs that splattered on the terrorists. Also, the barrels that explode when shot were now clearly labeled "paint" with a little paintbrush icon. Does that kind of "censorship" achieve anythiing in a SHOOTING game other than make the whole thing seem extra goofy?

Heck, how about a arcade compilation that includes X-Men Arcade and TMNT Arcade. If you're not even going to really try (and no, Dewy and Elebits isn't even close to trying in my book - you couldn't even sell those to 360/PS3 gamers - especially compared to the Silent Hill 5 and MGS4 that are landing on the other systems) at least pick the best of the cheapest efforts you can make. Take a page from Capcom's book, their last gen ports consists of Okami and RE4. Their RE rail shooter at least turned out to be good. Their experimental game Zack & Wiki turned out pretty well (and personally more endearing and fun that Dewy was, especially if we're going to argue "kiddie" games), and the supposedly popular Monster Hunter series is making the leap.

1. Area 51 is being ported because to this date, it is one of the most popular arcade lightgun games in the history of the genre. You can still find the later area 51 sequels in any arcade today. Like pacman, they are timeless in their own right.

2. Konami decided to port it (besides the reason above) because the wii is the first console with real "lightgun" support since the nes. (Yes of course there have been lightguns for other systems since, but with complicated hookups involving tapping into your video out, which degrades your picture quality and lackluster support for the hardware it never hit main-stream status since the days of the zapper.)

3. The graphics look great! They are arcade perfect. You people would complain about the graphics on pacman! I'm suprised you don't complain about the graphics on VC titles!

4. This will obviously be a budget title. Nobody will be paying 50 bucks for it. I doubt we'll be paying 30. It'll be a 20 dollar (or maybe less) title.

5. Did anyone ever consider that this might be a wii-ware title? To my knowledge, the only console port of area 51, was a pretty crappy one for the saturn. Perhaps they decied it'd be better to start from scratch with a "new" port and took it a step further?

Yeah, the lack of care factor seems to be so much more prevalent of late. PS2 has 127/1518 games ranked at 50 or less, PS3 is 5/121, 360 is 23/321 and Wii is 23/141.

Percentage wise, that's:

PS2: 8.3
PS3: 4.1
360: 7.1
Wii: 16.3

Many people (me included) were very excited by the possibilities for innovation the Wii presented. But it's getting way more than its fair share of crap games.

Here is the other end of the spectrum (90+ games):

PS2: 62/1518 (4.0%)
PS3: 3/123 (2.4%)
360: 11/321 (3.4%)
Wii: 4/141 (2.8%)

Wii is doing marginally better than PS3 (1 more outstanding game), but not much. PS2 had a fair amount of crap, but percentage wise it still wins by a long way.

Personally, I'd like to see the current gen consoles (all of them) beat the percentage of quality games the PS2 had last gen. The 360 is getting close, but doubt any of the consoles will beat the PS2 percentage of quality games this year.

You could pointlessly shoot everything up to get more points and open up minigames (fun, campy ones like a turkey shoot, where you shot plucked turkeys flying into the distance). In "Target: Terror" you could dual wield the light guns. Fun frantic, guilty pleasures.
Although my gf doesn't like me playing them. She says I get this "look" on my face.
I just might actually buy this game :P

I think you're being a tiny bit harsh with your crap to quality ratio. SaintAnima was actually fairly close to the mark.

According to Metacritic, Wii has 141/13/4/23 (rated, 80+, 90+, 50-) games. So it's more like 35 less than impressive games (or half a dozen totally crap games) for each SMG, MP4, etc.

Compare that to the PS3 (which is constantly bagged for having no games and/or no quality games) at 121/40/4/5. Wii may have more games, but the PS3 has a higher percentage of quality titles and a much lower percentage of crap titles. Even Lair averages over 50.

I also thought it was smart to allow you to use your gamecube controllers to play some of the games. Then games started to trickle out... With the exception of the big 1st party titles, alot of the games were average fluff and the release of this game has aloud me to remove my blinders to say this : "I believe the only thing the Wii has going for it right now are the motion controls, because graphically it's just a glorified Gamecube and third party developers don't even take advantage of it. Nintendo has grown so big with 1st party development they have begun to cannibalize themselves by making 3rd party games seem that much worse. but they are Nintendo and can do no wrong...."
