@dv8godd: I agree, the fact that parts of the city are not accessible is very annoying. Also, the land outside the city is not actually really connected to the cities, I think. There's all these parts where the game stops, travelling time is skipped, and new parts of the world are loaded. It would be awesome if the whole world was one big, connected "level."

@L_K_M: So for you the true pleasure is just in romping around the world, that's cool. I played Crackdown the same way, honestly... just walked around and ran into missions while exploring the world to see if I could get to some particular spot. Half the game was just jumping and climbing around... and the other half was the intended game. But I never cared to progress the story so much in Crackdown.

I think my issue with AC, if I have one, is that the story feels like it should be the part that's compelling me forward... but I kinda lost track of it. And I feel like I want to play it like Crackdown, but the lack of reward for doing so makes it a somewhat shallow experience... Plus, Crackdown gave you the whole city to start, no artificial barriers, so any time you saw something in the distance and said to yourself "i wonder if i can climb on top of that", the answer was always "yes".

I get the feeling that I'd actually like the out-of-city experience in AC more than in the city, but I haven't done much yet. Maybe it's that there is just TOO much to explore that it's overwhelming, and now that I've gotten 3/4 of the way through, it feels bizarre to backtrack and slow my pace.

I definitely get the feeling that I've played it somewhat wrong, possibly because it lacked the clues to have me enjoy it more. Crackdown said "go jump on things... go blow things up... missions are boring... just have fun" so I did, and I loved it. AC seemed to say to me "you need to progress the story... oh, and there's a pile of hidden flags that do you no good whatsoever"... so I went into the story, figured exploration was less interesting because they didn't attach value to it, and came out wondering why missions were shallow.

Maybe I should replay it with your approach.

Personally, I don't need an incentive for exploring. I don't even care too much about the story. Going around killing crusaders, climbing towers and helping people is basically all I'm doing. When I get near a mission, I do the mission, but I don't really try to progress the story too much. Story progression occurs as a side effect of me fooling around, not as something I actively pursue. If you are trying to play through the game, to finish it, I can see how that would become boring. I also think that is why some reviews were so bad. Reviewers have to finish the game, and thus try to do so as quickly as possible, and then the game becomes repetitive really fast.

@L_K_M: I would've given AC the "most annoying homeless lepers" award. :)

I really like AC, personally, but it could use a bit more mission variety. After a while it tends to feel a bit like a 1 hour game repeated several times with changing city districts and different climaxes. With a bit more variety, I'd have loved it rather than just really liked it. Maybe make the flags worth something too (a la Crackdown) like a tinge of RPG power-up so I have an incentive to free-form exploring.

@creid: Granted I haven't used the 360 guitars before but the PS2 SGs were guitar-peripheral perfection. That being said, I do like the RB strat's size and weight and, while the strum bar is less accurate, it feels alot more natural to play. It also feels horribly fragile. I really am scared of breaking it. Also, the fret buttons are much harder to do long runs and accurate hammer-ons and pull-offs with...and the high fret buttons (the solo tappin' ones) are pretty much useless.

@PapaBear434: I'll use the Select Screen Map every once in a while to get my bearings. I tried not to use it for as long as I could hold out, but when I started to realize that the sun position was never consistent (sometimes in the east, sometimes in the west, sometimes in the south) I had to break down and at least use it every time I entered into a new city. I think you could get through the whole game without it, but I don't have a full year I'm willing to dedicate to the game. It's not THAT good, but is certainly worth every penny of the $19 I spent on it.

Super Paper Mario would have sucked on the Cube though. Because the D-pad on the Cube sucks ass and playing a side-scroller with the thumbstick would be pretty bad as well. Also, we all got Wiis now and the games aren't any more expensive so bring on the Wii games.

Best advertisement for Guitar Hero 2 or 3 for the 360: Rock Band (anyone forced to use the crap Rock Band guitar knows what I'm talking about here...damn me and my buying all the GH games on the PS2).

For Sony, it might be 'the PS3 is the lead platform for developers' or 'multiple SKUs confuse the market' thing (though the latter isn't really a lie, as the 40GB model is the only one we have here).

Really, all PR types are there to spin, lie, etc to make their respective companies look good, so I don't see why Nintendo is excepted.

I loved Assassin's Creed. My only issue with it is now that I've beaten it, I can't go back to play it again, to collect the rest of the flags, without watching a long ass cut scene.

Seriously. Would it be so hard to give us a save "memory block" that doesn't start at a long winded cut scene that I have to watch for ten minutes before I get on to play?

LOL. I still haven't gotten past the first board in Assassin's Creed. Been playing Blue Dragon and Mega Man Anniversary Collection instead. I already got to jump around rooftops as a superhero in Crackdown. I'll go back to it, but am just not compelled right now.
