You are correct, I did insult you, and I was overly sensitive in that thread, but I did in no way insult your relatives like I assumed you said.

At that time and point I was overly sensitive, and I remember regretting it when I posted it because I realized then, after, I took it the wrong way (what you said) ... maybe it was due tot eh fact being the races I am, I get shit from both sides of the fence, and seeing how PC some people can be (being married to my Asian wife) ... there is even more sentiment.

Anyhow, that was then this is now, if you are still bothered by it, I can assure you it was my mistake, and I was wrong, I let emotions get the better of me then, on very sensitive issues, and had gross mis-interpretation (as we all often do online) what you were trying to convey.

The proof is in the very first comment you used for me to support your claim. For the record, I have never spared Nintendo any criticism. For example, I wrote "the Wii SD support really does suck donkey balls", and I also plainly said that the Wii sucks. I used to be an Atari fanboy back when Pong and the VCS 2600 were en vogue. I was a Sega fanboy during the great Megadrive/SNES wars. Currently, I think all three console manufacturers are shit, period. If any other manufacturer offered an alternative, I'd go there (Samsung? Please?).

I live in the US Eastern timezone. All winter until the first week or so of April I can be on all day every day.

In fact, I AM on all day every day, one of the things that takes me away from gaming the most right now is Kotaku (nad has been for over a year)...

Come April through to next winter (Dec) ... I can be on from 3pm or so EST to 11pm or so EST.

I had scrolled back through your comment history back until June and had not seen any direct confrontation with EN, so as I said, I can't speak to any specific instance.

All I can say is that I haven't had the same experience for whatever reasons and, though I notice that some people get rubbed the wrong way, I think he's capable of maintaining a balance. I see a lot of his commentary, potentially grating as it may be to some, as an effort to restore an even balance to the gaming playing field, not to play platform favorites.

But again, that's just me, everyone's mileage will vary.

I've confronted Enigma before about his trolling. His responses are generally to insult me personally. I must confess that I would often retort with insults of my own, but I am not trying to control the banhammer.

He has also personally insulted me after relating a personal story about my in-laws.

Enigma baits people with with irrational arguments and personal insults. That should disqualify him from this position.

We all get the joke most of the time, most of us just don't laugh. That's not to say you're incapable of making contributions, I've seen some of them and therefore have come to understand the respect you command.

I admit, I have been overly critical about things Nintendo, but that is due to the fact there is enough negative posting about the PS3 and 360 over the past two years by people and the staff, where there isn't much more I need to add (and I have done my fair share to both), that wasn't already said.

Anywho, good luck and congrats to Irish, Kirby, Witz, Papa, and sorry to people of Kotaku for not being around so often this week (mother in law was visiting from the West Coast).

Either one of us would do a fitting job I am sure.

I have to say, I wouldn't look forward to have to choose who of those 5 gets the top job. For one, I am familiar with all their work, and they are "popular" posters, but there are also many more deserving people that should be on there too. Also, most of them would make excelent mods in my opinion, with one or two being very level headed (not saying who, I like all 5 and dont wanna offend anyone).

Anyway, whoever gets the job it shouldn't be too big of a deal, as I know Kotaku will keep them on a short leash for awhile to see how they work out. So if they abuse their power, or are not as cracked up to be (which can happen, they one by popularity, not actual "talent" in the field), then we can be assured that they wont be around for long...

I have to agree with arashi on that first post. It looks to me like he brings up both the Wii AND the 360 RRoD, not the Wii specifically, as he pushes back on someone attacking the PS3 for a lack of games. It seems to me that he mentions both competitors because it is unclear who the original poster is a fanboy of from the initial comment.

But like I said, "I" never really got the impression that he's singling anyone out... but I don't read every single article and comment that ends up on Kotaku, so mileage may vary.

I've seen him sling shit all over the place, honestly... so I never really felt that it was going in any direction more than any other.

As for the second one, Denki said he was with myshl0ng that Guitar Hero and Rock Band are bullshit and shouldn't be played because they aren't real music. I dunno... I too consider it rather pompous and elitist to tell other people that an entire genre of games is worthless and they're more or less stupid for doing so. I don't play a lot of games because they aren't up my alley, but I don't go into posts for those games and post 10 paragraphs about how everyone is an ass for liking them either.

I'll grant you that Enigma is blunt and abrassive though... and it certainly rubs people the wrong way... but I, personally, never got the feeling that it was anti-____ bias that motivated him. I could be wrong though, just my thoughts.

I do appreciate your input on the matter though, and I don't mean that in a condescending way. Your posts have a habit of making me re-think myself and whether I'm missing something or full of shit at times. It helps keep me honest, for what it's worth.

Well, the problem with me is that I'm hardly concise. I try to be diplomatic (not always succeeding) and that usually ends up with really longs posts (like this one).

Seriously, I gather anger when I'm not being overly clear through short posts as well. I cause annoyance with my lengthy posts too.

I don't disagree that being a levelheaded poster would indicate some potential for being levelheaded with the hammer. I guess I just see the final 5 as rather unbiased in general... or at least having equal biases all around.

I discussed the difference with Witz on a previous KoK thread... my side of the equation would be to try to "touchy feely" talk offenders out of being trolls and such, where Enigma would probably ban people for offenses.

The job really is to wield the banhammer... not really to talk them to death. Maybe someone more like the Terminator and less like the mother in the most recent Wii video ( [kotaku.com] ) would be a good thing.

My initial post wasn't really aimed at you or anyone else, just a general vibe of "go ___, anyone but ___" that seemed to be a bit of a downer.

I was just worried that the folks were writing some people off in the third person, rather than confronting the individual about whatever issues they had. By the same token, I'd be kinda surprised by someone I don't know saying "anyone but dv8, that guy is an asshole". I wouldn't mind someone thinking I was an asshole, it's just the wrong way to find out about me offending people if that wasn't the intention. It's terribly anecdotal, like an absentee trial of public opinion.

Man after reading through these comments I really do appreciate all of the support! Its nice to see that at least some folk take the time to listen to my inane rantings and such.

Personally everyone in the top 5 would be great for the job, a bit sad that dv8godd isnt up here also since Id say he would be the man giving out kittens and pie to everyone with his "people person" attitude that really should have gotten him more followers. D: Regardless though its nice to see that 5 rather different personalities made it up to the top and once again wish everyone good luck!

Im not a big fan of making personal speeches and such not even sure if this is the comments section Mr. Crecente wants us to post it in?

Anyways though, some of you folks have met me, others know me from my commenting (mass spamming) here on Kotaku. I pretty much speak my mind, which usually gets me into trouble with some folk, dont pull punches if you will. So I guess what Im trying to say here is what you read / see is what you will be getting.

My only wish for the site itself is to keep the community "intact" so that we all can enjoy Kotaku as much as we all do. Since I know that a large factor that keeps quite a few of us here is the strong community of commentors we have, and the rather intelligent discussions that arise in the comments section.

Well as you can see when it comes to this sort of "speech" bit I stuff it all up so perhaps Ill close it off here.

Granted if elected or not, Ill be sure to not let down those who have supported me and to always be a friend to the fellow commentors here. Lets just all work together to keep Kotaku itself a community we all can enjoy!

Why, do you claim I hacked his account and wrote those comments for him? Seriously, whether you agree with him or not is besides the point. I actually agree with what he writes in the second comment about Rock Band, too - that is not the point though! Insulting somebody is never acceptable as a reply to a well-stated opiniont. The fact that I agree with EnigmaNemesis doesn't make his comment any less insulting, and if you can't see that calling somebody a "pompous and elitist ass" is insulting, you're quite simply just biased, I'm afraid to say.

The first comment is flamebait, and the second is personally insulting. And there is plenty more where these two came from. End of story.

We don't need someone devoid of opinions. However, someone who attacks you personally after going out of his way to insult you with a remark that adds nothing to the post is hardly the type of person who should have the banhammer.

That doesn't mean that Enigma's not funny, intelligent, prolific, or (at times) interesting. However, he is often a troll, and that we don't need to give him any extra power.

As I said, I had expected him to be banned after many of his comments and find it astonishing that he is being considered a candidate to wield the banhammer.

Far be it from me to disagee with you (it would take me a year to dig myself out from under all the words:P ) but being a levelheaded poster (when there's nothing on the line, like KoK) speaks to your ability to be a levelheaded mod/banhammerer IMHO.

There's a way to have an opinion and still be diplomatic. You walk that line all the time.

For the record, you would've been my first choice, for the reasons mentioned above. I was surprised you weren't at the top of the running honestly.

I would also completely agree with his assessment of the comment on your second post. Maybe you do not feel that someone is pompous and self-righteous when they say that you should be playing a sport or playing an instrument rather than playing a game that emulates those activities, but the fact is, the original post, while interesting, was quite condescending to gamers. I didn't read that comment section originally, but the fact that someone does not understand why a video of someone playing Rock Band rather than someone drumming on a non-video game belongs on Kotaku is completely missing the point of Kotaku.

You are entitled to your opinions, and I read your opinions all the time, but those examples do not prove your point. I respectfully disagree.

Nah, I'm joking. I can understand where you're coming from completely. I do have some serious flaws. I'm still going to try and win, but I hope to work those flaws out.
