Last Duke game I played and own is Duke Nukem: Time to Kill on PSone. Best part of the whole damn game was calling Lara from the phone booth on the first stage. Otherwise, it was meh.

This trailer will be entertaining, to say the least.

First, I am excited. Duke Nukem was one of my first experiences with really modding and messing with networking a game. I mean, sure, we played Doom and Hexen across the printer network in computer class all the time while the teacher wasn't looking. But this... Duke was the game that really got me into trying to make levels, modding guns and skins, setting traps with the environment and weapons.

When DNF was announced, and was in it's usual cycle, me and my friends were as ravenous for news as we are today for things like LittleBigPlanet and were for Halo 3. We poured over every screen shot, we waited for days as we downloaded video's off our 56k modems, and we twitched with excitement as each revised release date grew closer and closer. All the videos, at the time, seemed to be the pinnacle of technological achievement. We accepted the delays, hoping for a better final product.

And as years grew on, we kind of... Forgot. Sure, every once in a while, we would toss out a joke about it, regarding a different game being delayed. Duke Nukem became a verb, like "They are Duking that game, delaying it again."

It transcended the cultural niche of "hardcore gamers." People that weren't even into games knew of DNF's strife, and would make jokes regarding it's never ending development cycle. In offices, a project doomed to failure was compared to the same likelihood as this game ever being done.

So, what side of my head do I believe? Do I think it will actually be released? Do I think it will be good if it does? Do I even care anymore? There are so many other great games out there, will it even raise it's voice above the rest of the fracas, other than it's legendary status as the "Game that was never to be?"

I guess I will just do what I have been doing since my freshmen year of high school. I'm going to sit, I'm going to wait, and I will watch whatever they put out for me to see.

And some day, the game will reach it's own judgment day, and I will have answers to all my questions.

You are correct sir.. I guarantee this teaser is only like 30 seconds and this is how it will go:

It's going to open with a montage of old footage and sound clips from the original games with a lame text time line going across the screen. Then it will fade to black and Duke will say something corny like "I'm ready to kick ass and take names.. and I'm all out of paper" and it will zoom out from his glasses and show him crack his knuckles and light his cigar and that picture will be the only thing we'll see of the game. Watch.

I remember when Duke Nukem was like a really secretive thing amongst some of my friends because of all the big square boobs in it. They knew their parents would flip if they found out, so it was a kind of "You watch the door while I play Duke Nukem" situation. But I actually had more fun staring at the carpet than when it was my turn to play.

Seriously, I'm looking forward to this as I loved Duke 3D back in the day. While I'm sure it will never live up to the hype of having been in development for 10+ years as long as it has the humour and satire intact I'm sure I'll really enjoy it. In all honesty, though, I expect to see Super Mario Galaxy 2 before I see Duke again.
