I think everyone is blowing this out of proportion. Yes, it's an inconvenience. Is it a catastrophe? No. Can you still buy things from the PS Store? Yes. Can you get Visa gift cards that will do the exact same thing? Yes, you can, at most department stores anymore.

Calm your asses down. If you go to Walmart (God forbid) and there are no PSN gift cards in the electronics section, instead of weeping and crying Sony's name into the heavens and damning them to Hades... Take a breath, smile, and walk ten yards to the Visa pre-paid credit cards sitting next to the cash register, knowing that the Warhawk Expansion and extra Motorstorm maps will soon be yours.

Which Sony doesn't even have. I got a PS3 this weekend and have been trying to purchase things in the PSNetwork store since then with my regular old credit card and it doesn't work. I've contacted both my bank and Sony, and the anwer is that there's been something wrong with Sony's credit card database - for about four days now. I WANT to buy some games online, but Sony literally won't let me.

Guys,

A credit card system is really hard to work out, because you deal with electronic money you have to have permits as well as a reliable database, lots of security, and more. I know that the cards idea was only thought of in early novemeber for some reason, it doesnt surprise me that they didnt get it out.

I never said they couldn't ever, I said it takes time. If we just heard about this recently, that's a good indicator that they're just setting something up. It takes weeks to ensure everything is tight. One simple slip up could result in millions lost. If we heard about this in the Summer time for instance then no doubt it would be here by the Holiday season. Like I said above, it's pretty bad that they didn't have this from the start, but I wasn't expecting this for Christmas based on when the news was leaked about it.

If you think it's simple to just create a system like that you are out of your mind. You not only have to set up the manufacturing the cards, you have to make sure the codes are fraud proof, you then have to make sure all your retailers are on board which takes time.

I never expected them to have this by Christmas time based on the time this was leaked to the world. That doesn't mean they shouldn't have had something like this from the start though. They're losing out more than we're losing out trust me.

I can understand companies trying to strategically time the release of products already finished to space out big releases - short controlled bursts and all that - but this isn't one of those times. Its a sooner the better kind of thing. And rather than it being the "option many of you have been asking for" they describe in the blog, it should be something we don't even have to ask for since it is a standard offering amongst competitors.
