The reason I love this particular post is because of the simple yet profound impact it had on me. The reason being because not so long ago I used to be that person that would go out of his way no matter the cost to himself to help someone in need. However, over the last few years because of my own struggles I had lost sight of that person... the person I used to be. We certainly live in a time where too much emphasis is placed on the negative and it can be quite easy to get swept away in it. The story told in that post caused me to reflect on myself and helped me to realize a part of my life that had been missing. Thank you Kotaku for sharing with us this touching and positive story but also thank you for helping me out. I needed it.

I've been a fan of comics since the first day I joined a community online at the age of 13, so a gaming comic has always peaked my interest. Never has one made me shed a tear until I read the comic you guys posted. It was sad and happy, knowing the devotion the mother had to her child to sharing an interest and making everyone happy in whatever way she could. I have some close people in my life who I would love to be able to do this for, and even someone who loved his nephews and did all he could to please them which passed away some years ago.

Life is cruel, but life is also beautiful. There are many amazing things available in this world thanks to the people who you are around each day. May there be great beginnings and happy endings for everyone in 2008. Thank you, Kotaku.

Glad you've kept me up on the latest happenings, such as the above link. I'm surprised how many of those links I missed such as the 'Gaming Tattoo Gone Wrong' and 'Rumor: Halo 4 Confirmed'... Actually, now that I take a second look through the list, I'm surprised how many of them I found myself.

Oh well. In any case, it's an old year ended and a new year begun for Kotaku. I'm sure we'll see more stupidity by Sony's PR; and more inanity, if not the finale, of Jack Thompson's career. More memes will be brought forth, for better or worse... most likely worse. And parodies of our beloved will shine bright. Duke Nukem Forever still won't see the light of day (Despite evidence to the contrary)--I jest, I jest; and lastly Kotaku will grow and grow, and burn brighter than ever before. I love practically each and every article, but this has to be the article of the year, hands down. It's blown the lid off of CNET and GameSpot forever.

I was a longtime GameSpot follower, and I've never left a gaming site for any reason. Then, the bombshell drops - Jeff Gerstmann, fired for a game review? Moreover, it was possibly related to that game's advertising on GameSpot's very pages?

This came as a shock to readers and reviewers alike. I can probably speak for everyone when I say that upon hearing this news, I've looked back on all of GameSpot's reviews and thought to myself - were they legit? Or were they based off of advertisements and sponsoring? The line has blurred to the point that nothing seems trustworthy from that site anymore.

I've since stopped going to GameSpot for any reviews - a first for me. When I first read this article here, it was like reading a breaking news story - one that GameSpot definitely would not have spoken of. It's sad that a gaming site like that solely depends on dollar signs, and in return churns out false reviews. At least here, at Kotaku, I get all the raw, unedited content I need. The way it should be.

This article, I enjoyed it mainly because it brings up a controversial problem with an awesome idea. As it states with games like LittleBigPlanet and UT about to appear, this can only be further of a problem. Which really questions if being open ended is such a great idea when there are always going to be the few who ruin it for all. The funny thing about this article goes all the way back to E3 2007. In the Microsoft press conference, Jade Raymond came up to the stage to demonstrate the gameplay of Assassin's Creed. During the demonstration, Jade came across a bug which made Altair float in the air. It makes sense that problems would occur during the development stage. What I found hilarious in this article was how Activision gave Ubisoft the green light that was filled with bugs that made you kill yourself. I mean, sure, you can kill yourself by jumping off some kind of cliff as you would see in Super Mario 2D platform games. You can kill yourself by being a pacifist and let the enemies attack you with no remorse [i.e. God of War, Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry]. You could have also killed yourself by staying in a burning car and let it explode (i.e. Grand Theft Auto series). However, those are all indirect as it required the participation of external environments and forces. This is the first time as far as I can remember where you can kill yourself with your own two hands.

The guy wouldn't listen to me. I yelled and I tried to explain but he didn't say a word. Not a peep.

Finally, he looked up. The oily black hair hanging in curtains over his eyes, darkened and puffy with lack of sleep.

"I don't think you understand Mr. Thompson. He's gonna take care of people like you."

My eye twitched. I loosened my grip. He slipped down the brick wall just a little.

"What does that mean? 'People like me'? WHAT people?"

He coughed and hacked but my hand around his throat wouldn't let him spit at me twice.

"Gamers," he gurgled.

I tried to hide my reaction. This was it, this was what he was working toward all along. Jack Thompson, on a quest to crush the youth of America for what gain? What could he possibly get out of wiping out gamers?

I had an idea.

That son of a bitch is going to get a nasty wake-up call come New Year's Eve. Only one of us will get to see the ball drop.

That whole debacle was great. I remember reading the rumor of Home and thinking it was a great idea. Then we get the follow up post of Sony blackballing Kotaku and every video game publication and website in an uproar about how Sony is wrong.

Out of all the Street Fighter: The Later Years, this is my favorite. Although the series quality varies from usual online fair to amazingly good, this episode really seems to have laughs all the way through. The beginning was great, with the salute to That 70's Show, and Blanka really gets the last laugh with his fast car, fast women, and love for the transformers. While I don't especially like College Humor most of the time, this series is usually good for a nice (game-related) laugh.

Considering how tedious it is to defend the videogames vs. violence is, I have to respect Crecente for his never-say-die attitude towards Jack Thompson and his assholery. Rather than absorb mindless biased media like most Americans as fact, its good to see someone out there dissect the popular assumptions generated by violence oriented games. Oh, plus there's no one out there that can get Thompson's panties in a bunch quite like Crecente.

Yahtzee is the creator of my most beloved reviews now. He doesn't grade, merely DEGRADES games giving me the information I want in a nice 4 minute package of hilarity. He has never disappointed me, even when talking about the games I love in a negative light. I only hope his work goes on through-out 2008 and into 2009. And I only discovered his genious thanks to the writings of Mr. Fahey who convinced me that this stick-figure character with a hat was worth watching. Well played, sir.

Because i learned that e-commerce can never really be trusted, other than the e-tail giants we all know and love. This limited edition turned out to be an edition of however many they keep making $ off of. They actually sent me an email letting me know they got more than originally expected months after i thought i was 1 of 300 people to get a pair.

This is a pretty comical video about Mario and Luigi teaching about safe sex. Funny voice overs and actually a decent amount of content/knowledge makes this one of the best videos I've watched all year.

Everybody loves some IOSYS flash. Even better when it's tied to a game I recently picked up and played. If you've played Etrian Odyssey, then you'll probably get a lot of the (really funny) jokes in this little movie. If not, I guess it's not a huge deal.

I've always loved the FF series, and when this news hit, I was ecstatic. I always wondered if the Wii-mote could be used as a camera-esque device for this game rich in creepy storytelling ritual lore. Here's hoping to a great gameplay and story in this new addition to the series, and thanks Kotaku for giving me the headsup ^^
