Ok so I will be looking for this at my local asian owned mexican resturant then. That is where I used to go to get my Fatal Fury and Final Fight fixes. You guys know what I am talking about. There is that small hallway to the right when you walk in, that undoubtly runs to a small room filled with slot machines for use not abserved by the local gaming commission. Must try it out.

In 1999 SNK gave us the last, and possibly greatest, Fatal Fury game to grace fighting game fans around the world; Garou: Mark of the wolves. We jumped for joy.

In 2000 SNK ceased to exist. Gamers whined and moaned, yatta,yatta,yatta...then in 2001, Playmore successfully bid for and obtained SNK's intellectual rights later in that same year. Gamers had a reason to smile and hoped this would mean we'd be graced with a new game starring South Towns favorite characters. Thus began the wait.

In 2007, the wait was over. Fatal Fury, one of the most awesome 2D fighting games around, had returned...as a Pachinko game. Bewilderment ensued, but all was meant to be forgiven by the sight of four hot Mai's. It's working.

Pachi-slot machines do let you control when the wheel stops, but only a small percentage of the time. Most of the time no matter when you press the buttons, the machine decides when to stop the wheel.

To anybody wondering:
These are called PACHI-slots because of the way the game actually plays; spinning the three wheels and actually getting a Bonus plays out a lot like regular Pachinko machines. Sometimes a slot machine will be remade as a pachinko machine and vice-versa. The game is the same, but how you play it is slightly different (pushing buttons vs. watching balls fall).

And finally, yes, you can win money. Gambling is illegal in Japan, but Pachinko parlors use loopholes to award people pieces of plastic in exchange for balls/coins, which you then take outside and exchange for money.

Now you know!

Back on topic... pachi-slot actually lets you control when the reels stop. So even though it's got nothing to do with dropping ball bearings, there is still some skill involved. A one-armed-bandit is completely automated.

And you can see Sega-Sammy sales are dropping sharply, so there's plenty of ideas every few months to draw the crowds.

(And for those unawares, it's illegal to actually win money on these things in Japan. Just prizes.)
