After hearing about disgaea 3 i wondered if it would live up to what id heard, but after seeing a trailer like that I know it will. Ive played the other two and i am looking forward to this one.

The only problem is i have to wait for it to be shipped to australia. If anyone has any information on when that will be id appreciate it :) but for now ill enjoy all the awesome Disgaea 3 trailers

For me, when a game gets too "big" I just go deer-in-the-headlights and lose the motivation to play. When I found out that ever single weapon/item in Disgaea had a 100-level dungeon inside it, I just gave up. I thought the game was charming, but the sheer vastness of it (along with the geo-sphere thing that I wasn't crazy about) caused me to lose interest.

Similarly, when I unlocked the first major expanded area in GTA: San Andreas, I just drove around for a while, did the cliff-bike-parachute thing, found a plane to fly around until something shot me down, and then never played again.

@Everyone: The 360 still has a crappy Japanese user base, and third party devs are still highly reluctant about the Wii. Though I'm still not convinced it's going to 'win,' the PS3 is going to probably be a favorite for Japanese devs this gen. If you like games like Disgaea...well, you'll just have to get used to it.

It does look like monsters can be equipped as weaponry, the dark assembly has been replaced by a classroom, and geo-cubes are going to take 2d geo-panel algorithmic thinking to a spacial 3d level of "ouch my head".

Looks like the PS3 will continue the PS2's legacy as the console for a superior RPG experience. Also, if you want the game, just buy a PS3. If you're waiting for every great PS3 game to be ported to "your" console, you'll only be disappointed. If you're one of those "*insert game* is not enough to make me want a PS3" people, then don't buy one. Simple, right?

Seriously though, graphics aside, this game looks astounding. While I would like for it to be a bit....sharper... I would much rather have amazing new moves and an improvement of gameplay quality; not that Disgaea didn't have good gameplay quality before, it's just amazing that they keep on adding to something that's pretty much already considered perfection.

As others have said, you don't need to get to 9999 to "beat" the game. You only have to if you want to get to some high level content. But don't think that Disgaea = hundreds of hours of grinding. Disgaea is awesome for the humor and the incredibly deep battle system; the insane level cap is just icing on the cake. I mean that about the battle system. I can't play FFT anymore; it just seems like child's play, even though I was obsessed with it back in the day. I totally agree with the writer on this one. Disgaea is the only game of which I am a true fanboy. I've actually been mulling over writing some FAQs for GameFAQs for newbies to the series. If that's not fanboy, I don't know what is. But only after I beat the Etna campaign. Stupid finals.

I also thought of Witzbold when I saw that penguin character. I haven't had a PS since the original, and have never played a Disgaea game. I enjoy the tactics games though, and would buy this (if it was on 360 or DS). I'd get it for the PS3 if I could afford one. (In terms of time and money; marriage is rough for the gamer.)
