Don King Presents: Prizefighter, only on Pay-Per-View. Now that I think it, are you guys sure this isn't going to be a pay-to-play online console game?

I beat each Rocky game easily within a few days and forgot about 'em. I've played each of the successive Fight Night games for months and still play Round 3 with at least a couple weekly fights.

The Rocky games had a story but lacked any decent gameplay. The Fight Night series had excellent gameplay with a rather boring carreer mode. Rocky with Fight Night's engine would be pretty cool, aye! As for this Don King game (headed by the previous Rocky team), I'm sure we'll be stuck with another mediocre button masher and probably relagated mostly to a roster of fighters under contract with Don King.

IMO, Until the Fight Night series there has never been a good representation of decent boxing gameplay (not counting the arcadey styles of Punch Out). Each successive Fight Night improved two-fold over the latter. Fight Night 2004 lay the basic groundwork. Fight Night Round 2 tweaked power leveling and stats. Round 3 ventured into individual fighters' styles and nuances. (If you have the PS3 version of R3 you got 1st person perspective which IMO is now the only way to play.) And unfortunately now we can only imagine what a 4th game would have brought.

I love the sport of Boxing and it seams these days that reality (speaking mostly to the heavier weight divisions) is becoming ever so boring compared to the VG counterparts. If boxing ultimately dies to MMA (which I also respect) then I could only hope the "sport of kings" is continually represented rightly and properly in virtual form.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I'm looking forward to this. Fight Night 3 was like boxing under water. The punches lacked that snap.

Gah! It sounds like I've pretty much been beaten to my Boxing-RPG-with-Bioware-dialogue-trees concept I've been keeping to myself. In "Punch Out: The Challenger" you would have created your owner character who would have been trained by the original Punch Out trainer, and as you progress in your career your dialogue choices would define you as a clean cut successor to Little Mac, a Tyson-esque psycho-douche, a bit of both. I think the Punch Out trainer is way more likable than Don King, but oh well. I'll give Prize Fighter a go on Wii, and for every part that stinks, I'll just imagine my fantasy Nintendo WRPG.

@WalletMan: Boxing was a way of fighting for a more civilized age. I'm still a boxing fan, but MMA has some small advantages over Boxing, what with the use of EVERYTHING in the ring instead of just fists(too bad everyone just rolls around on the floor in the endm, whereas in boxing they spend 8 rounds moving around the ring staring at each other). Then again, they each emphasize something different. Do people even get knockouts anymore? :/

I'll buy this.. But I'd RATHER they make a boxing chess game. Everyone knows chess boxing will dominate MMA once it catches on in the USA. Living in Americaaaaaa. If this had nothing to do with current boxers and was all fictional characters(you make your own, etc), it'd be great. I can only see Ali fight Mayweather so many times before I go play Metal Gear for historical inaccuracies.

I have to agree with a number of the above commenters, I think this game is screwed from the get go. Who is going to buy a boxing game over an arcade fighting game? Boxing fans of course. Who do boxing fans universally hate? Don King. I normally like 2K, but this move is kind of brain dead. Also, I was extremely worried that there was ZERO mention of licensed real life fighters in the press release. Didn't 2K learn their lesson when All Pro Football bombed without the NFL?

@-EDGE-: I totally agree with you, and HERETRIX and NASCAR. What the hell is 2K thinking? Boxing fans HATE Don King and hate to see him involved with any boxing match for fear of fixed fights. I hope this game sucks because I don't want to feel like I'm missing out when I pass on it.

Must have been on hell of a brain storming session on this one 2K. "Hey, I got it. Let's get one of the most corrupt, hated, despised and untrustworthy people in all of sports and put his name in the title!"

Of all the respectable promoters out there trying to bring credibility back to boxing 2K picks the one almost solely responsible for its down fall. It's apparent they know nothing about boxing.

As awesome as Fight Night Round 3 was, it wasn't like real boxing, it was more like a movie.

Victorious Boxers 2 for the PS2 was very realistic, despite it being an anime-based game.

Don King or not, I hope... no, I expect they deliver on their promise of true to life boxing.

Why the fuck do you need a prick like Don King on the front of your game. I have no idea why Ubisoft keep paying to paste Tom Clancy's name on everything too, what left has he to offer? A boxing game doesn't need King. It needs the legends of the ring that EA provide.

with blitz the league, and now this, I love the idea of off the field antics playing a significant role in the in game sport. We all know what effect it has on players. From sports betting to steroids to all sorta of other situations (my favorite is sending a hooker to the other team in blitz)

This is not the kind of image any sports organization wants to portray (well, maybe golf.) But it is more 'real' and clearly more interesting.
