You guys mind if I give a bit of insight into what he did?

You see, the main reason I'm buying the 360 is Ace Combat 6, I'm a fanboy of the series, ever since I fell in love with it back at Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies, and have played each and every one since (meaning Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War and Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War) to perfect completion, getting the "S" rank on Normal, Hard, Expert and Ace, buying every plane, weapon etc.

Now, if the game got so difficult that I couldn't get past a certain point, I'd probably get pissed enough to break the disk in half, especially if it felt like a big "F U!" from Namco, instead of like Ace Combat.

I can relate only if he was trying to get some accomplishment.. and he just kept getting pummeled no matter what tactics or strategy he used.

At some point, a majority of game's crossed from being challenging, rewarding and fun to "The game developers just psychologically ripping you a new one.."(Of course just my humble opinion and this comes from someone who loved ArmoredCore and :Einhander, and Contra:NES)

Anyways I'm willing to die a hundred times max! and then when the vain in my neck explodes and a tooth cracks and falls out from gritting, prefer to stick with breaking controllers, there a little cheaper..well it could be there just immediately accessible...

Guilty Gear X2 end comes to mind.. and The Suffering :Ties that bind end come to mind...for xbox.

Both of those games are good, up until getting to the end... Where for me, it felt like the difficultly went from 7(Being fair difficulty) to 28...(Omg! my enemies have gained god like powers and I didn't gain shit)

Ending thoughts....
..sometimes with extremely difficult games its easy to put down the controller and walk away no harm done, because no matter how hard and difficult it was, you could see light at the end of the tunnel, and knew you could come back, and beat it once and for all..

But then they are those few gems, or should I say shark.. as in, you see the fin, but you really haven't seen the whole beast yet. And when you finally do, it's to late and it repeatedly rapes your ass..well at those times its easier to put the controller down in a few pieces ;)

I also finished each title in the serie since the air combat was realised in psx and i would say the 6th is in the top.

As others said, normal ppl would sell it. Not ruin the disc and come out in a blog with a wanna be cool like "oh but i could beat the expert mode".

i'm glad i'm not the only one who dislikes this game, though i don't think i'd snap a disk just for the attention, and that's what it is, for attention.

i really can't understand how so many reviewers are complementing the control scheme when it's crap. it feels really loose and hard to control the jet. that, and all the missions are ridiculously and boringly long. just flying back and forth for 20 min blowing up planes that come in unbelievable wave after wave. there couldn't be anyone left on the ground, there's so many planes in the air.

i guess it must be a challenge teaching toddlers to fly supersonic jets, eh?

Short for mechanical designer. Somebody who designs robots and planes and whatever for TV cartoons, comics, or games. As opposed to a chara/character designer who designs the people.

And yes, the way fanboys turned this into a 360/PS3 issue was amusing. Hold fire on that until the PS3 port comes out - if he decides he really likes that one, then you can descend like locusts, not before...

This blog post drew a lot of interest mostly because Fumikane's the artist responsible for characters on Sky Girls, which will most likely have some sort of Ace Combat clone (with pedo girls in place of realistic fighter jets) released by Konami. If that game is a piece of shit, as are most anime-based games, will he break those as well? Only time will tell...

Have any of y'all played AC games before? I'm a huge fan of the series and I found this latest version to be completely CHEAP with the AI and difficulty on the last few missions. While I didn't snap my disc in half, I did jump up and down on my controller in an embarrassing display of frustration.

Then I have to think, "Is he just pissed cause it's not on his Playstation?"

Actually it's easier to snap in half than shatter *pressed discs. You just have to snap the non-foil side first iirc. Also bending speed is important.

Last game I hated with that much conviction so as to break it was Pokemon Pinball for GBC.. God damn that retched game... Nearly broke my Game Boy too.

Last disc I snapped in half that I paid cash for was Maroon 5's first CD. God, you can only play something on the radio so much, then it's gonna start to make you angry. Plus that music video with the guy trying to like 'do' his girlfriend's mom. That was messed up enough for me to hate their once melodic tunes.

@黒天使: What, did Ridge Racer use to be good at some point and I missed it? I've only played the first and last 3 games, and every time it was a fun but shallow arcade racing game that I wrung my 5-8 hours of enjoyment from and then moved on. Every pre-underground Need For Speed game was better IMO, and of course if you want real racing the FORZAs and GranTurismo's of the world can help you with that. The less you try and compare it to the better Sega racers of the past, the better RR looks as well. I'm not sure what all that has to do with the 360 being a "crap console" (a point which I won't argue for or against at this point), but I felt the need to add it.

Now if only I could read Japanese, maybe I could respond to this actual guy and his broken AC6 disc. Its another series I've never been that into (decent, but not great were 4 and 5 IMO), but it wouldn't surprise me if this was partially just anti-360 sentiment combined with a mild dislike for this newest version of the game. I honestly can't say I would blame him in that case, if a game(s) I'd really enjoyed on one console (FinalFantasy) moved over to another and I really didn't like how it was done (any FF game from VII on) I would be kind of irrationally pissed too (also see: Beautiful Katamari for a less anti-Sony example).

@not_tom_brokaw: Oh lord. That is a completely irrational comparison. Yes, the 360 has issues. I have had one RROD since getting the console on it's release date. It was repaired and back to me in two weeks. I have a 3 year warranty to fall back on if it does it again. Would I rather have it than a system that would allow me to play Ratchet & Clank (The only game I'd be interested in)??? You're damn straight. Don't think of the 360 as a "-blam-y car with 12 cup holders", think of it more as a race prepped Ferrari that sometimes blows engines because it gets driven so hard.

My friends and I have been playing (among other things) "Ace Combat 6" on the X360 and quite simply its more (and more) of the same, in a totally good way. The basic engine is there. If flies like it used to and the basic gameplay remains true. It just happens to have Multi-part force missions, heavy sorties, and online modes (damn them for only giving us 2 Co-op missions, those kick ass). There are quite a few planes/tanks/ships on screen at one time (along with all the projectiles they spew)and the time taken to build the terrain really,really makes a big difference of it. For one while I'm skimming a few meters off the ground I can bank between buildings instead of just sort of flying over building looking wallpaper.

Seriously, the biggest difference really seems to be the fact that its on a non-Sony console now, and considering I own a X360 I'm totally fine with that. It is unfortunate for the PS people and I do feel for the loss of a franchise (I've also played them from "Air Combat" up and even own the Japanese AC3: ES and know how bad we got shafted on the port of the game) but personally I'm glad that it came to me rather than having to shell out for another console to play it.

@Kyle81: I feel truly bad for those incapable of appreciating the 360 in spite of its hardware issues. I'm on my second one now, and i'm tempted to say the reason my first one failed was because it was turned on doing something literally 24 hours a day. Hell i just left it on in the background in case someone would invite me to a game when i was doing something else.

I love my 360. I loved my first, which was fixed by a friend of mine and is now being loved by him, and my new one, i love that too. The controllers are great, the hardware itself isn't hideous (if a bit noisy, whatever), but most importantly, the software just plain works. Say what you want about the quality of the hardware, the software is impeccable, and i'd much rather have perfect software with intermittent hardware failure than perfect hardware and constant software failure.

360 hate for the build quality is ridiculous. Just plain ridiculous.

And really, has the Ace COmbat experienced really improved over the PS2 games? Now that the full game is out, all I see is that it's the same game with more enemies per mission, but less planes, and really nothing different presentation wise from the PS2 Ace Combat games (or at least it's very similar to AC4).

When we watched Advent Children in my college anime club and people started asking if they could get a copy, we made a big show of breaking the disc in half while telling them to do the right thing and buy it. The number of pieces it shattered into was almost as impressive as the looks on their faces!

I've learned from experience that when you try to snap a disc in half like that, it shatters. The only way he could have split it so cleanly is with scissors.

Also,

@Kermi: No, it clearly says, "In spite of that, I still completed the game on expert." There is no way to interpret his sentence as "tried to complete the game on expert." There's also nothing in there to suggest he "played it continuously."

Here's my translation:

"I've played the Ace Combat games from the no-name PS1 days to all the way through to the PSP one. But there's something about this little son of a bitch I just can't put up with (stomach). Even so, I did clear the game on expert.

I remember playing Street Fighter 2 on hardest difficulty hoping to never lose a match finishing the game... I always ended up dying on either Sagat or M.Bison once. :( Never finished the game on hardest difficulty without losing atleast one continue. :( I heard you would be able to see all characters endings if you did, but after reading on gamefaqs there's no such thing :(

That means "Still (even though I hated it) I played it so much as to get Expert Clear" (forgive my sloppy translation; I'm still rather befuddled by another sentence I saw today:「クリントンは何人目のアメリカ大統領ですか？」)
He's certainly beat it on Expert. His reason for hating it isn't given.
