Considering the general level of cosplayers in Sweden, this totally rocks! (saw her at Uppcon 08 and I was impressed)

And people, god damnit, I DO get tired of the whining, even when there's only like three whiners in the crowd. I mean, yeah, maybe she didn't pull it off in the most perfect way imaginable, but what the hell-

If you can't pull it off PERFECT, you shouldn't do it at all? Yay, way to put off EVERYONE with a little ambition and creativity. God damnit. Just shut the hell up. ;<

This is the WIN, in this exact shape. It captures the essence of SAMUS (beautiful, gritty, dirty) which is NICE :] And I think she could do it better. NOW she could. After making this, she probably has some more nice ideas up her sleeve, learnt from experience with this suit.

And that, boys and .. the occasional girl in this sausage fest of internet commentary, is why everyone who puts a little effort into what they're doing should be encouraged to do so! They'll get better and maybe, in the end, achieve this level of 'perfect' that apparently is the only level acceptable for the critics in the crowd. And then even the whiners will be happy! YAY!

@Foxy_Blue: I didn't say it wasn't "nice", I complained about most posters portraying it as the 9th wonder of the world.

It's a decent cosplay, nothing more, nothing less.

But obsessing over it is if anything, unfair towards people who put so much more hard work into it.

I have more than enough admiration for people putting on a cardboard box with the word "Mecha" on it, so that's not the point, it's the short-sightedness that bothers me. The inability to critique this costume just because "zOMG IT'S SAMUS" or "CHICK IZ HAWT".

The cosplay is nice. I think thats the whole point. We are seeing one of the few western girls that is not a gorilla-potamus who is cosplaying as one of our favorite characters.

Seriously, Cosplay is all about having fun, for those that demand realism, they go the way of fiberglass and make Storm Trooper and Guyver suits, for those casual cosplayers its just something to do for fun, and they make whatever they can from whatever they can find.

Saw this yesterday, wasn't impressed, saw it today, still not impressed.

Am I missing something here? The costume isn't tailored very well, the proportions are off and the overall look is just "flimsy".

Oh and there's "blood" for added drama. Particularly in-line with the franchise as we know it.

I admit that this is the "best" Samus cosplay I've seen so far, but only because it's the only Samus cosplay I've seen so far. So any adjective would stick.

The photography is good, point taken. But apart from that I think 90%+ of these comments are just blind fanboyism.

Check CosplayLab or Cosplay.com for any given video-game character and you're more than likely to find much more elaborately tailored costumes and a far greater attention to detail. Some people are, for the lack of a better term, just too "gullible".

Pretty darn good. Few minor gripes about it not being bulky enough plus the fact the suit doesn't have the metallic look but you'd need a professional or a very dedicated amateur suit for that. Better than most cosplays I've seen.

@Dirkcee: Pretty much indeed. What helps the overall look is, while I have to CAREFULLY say this, is that well, I'm guessing Samus was from a white background, and having a European do a very well done cosplay does help the overall believability over the generally well done cosplays by Japanese. Let's put it this way, who would make a more believeable Solid Snake cosplay, white or asian? Again, it's more than understandable what a person can and cannot change, but having that certain physical background does help significantly.

Props to this particular cosplay.

I've never commented on Cosplay, it's just seems kind of sad, like furries, but with less bestiality. There's just too much of it done wrong, and then documented through ridiculously high resolution photographs at UK:Resistance.

Still, this has been impressive. I saw this at Joystiq first, and thought about commenting there, then realised that without Ban Mondays, that place is just filled with fuckfaces. Nintendo have always tried to keep Samus' image dotted along some semblance of normality in comparison from other female characters, which makes her better for cosplay.

The cosplayer captures the look well, the colours and the lighting really works. I like how she doesn't pose so obviously for the camera, and stares into her distance. Just get the arm armour bulked up slightly, and it's a full A grade!

Awesome, if I wasn't madly in love with my wonderful gf I'd ask which part of sweden she lived in ;P Seeing as I'm swedish myself. Take this as proof that sweden has the finest chicks (my gf being the masterpiece ;P). Also, just to brag, we have the highest quality game studios (DICE, Massive Entertainment, Avalaunch, Starbreeze and more) though in almost every other aspect it kinda sucks to live here... Look at all the idiots spouting off with the "lets see you do it" crap.

That fact that I've never made a feature film doesn't mean I don't have the right to say a certain movie wasn't very good. The same goes for music, games, comic books, novels, etc.

For instance, the comment that this could have been ALOT better had it been done in metal (or more feasibly, plaster), is spot-on. When compared to Stormtrooper and Vader costumes, this is a joke, especially considering the same materials used in a Stormtrooper outfit could easily be used for a Samus suit. This much cloth and what looks like cardboard just doesn't cut it when you're going for an even halfway authentic look.

And just for the record? I made a full Vader costume for the episode III premier.

Although she is hot (as I mentioned on another gaming blog earlier this morning), the helmet is kinda hokey. Sure there are LED lights, but it also looks like it's made from cut aluminum foil.

All in all, A-/B+ I will agree. Her arms are pretty skinny, but that's the thing with Samus. She's proportionally incorrect. In the suit, her shoulders would have to be a lot wider than they are than, say, her Zero Suit. She'd have the width of Nicole Bass or something.

This cosplay sucks...the design is accurate, but it's image is way off. It's not even bulky like the MP series nor it's using metal. So..as a cosplay it fails, as a regular costume...it's designed well.

From the comments I guess I'm the only one that isn't a fan of zero suit Samus. To me, Metroid/Samus IS the classic suit/visor. Zero-suit is just some blonde chick in a tights which we are already innundated with as gamers.

@sophist: I wish that was the case. Sadly, there are elitist who think otherwise, and because of that mentality that floats around cosplaying, I'd hate to even bother trying. There's no fun in it when all people do is gripe about what they think it wrong or what they think it right... it's far too subjective.

I think the arms should be a little bigger, but everything else is fantastic. The helmet is amazingly done, moreso than the rest.

This has its issues, of course, but it is very good given the complexity. One easy thing that should be fixed is that the hair should not be showing with the helmet on.

OMG she even has, what I would assume as, LEDs inside the helmet! Very Nice. I have a new favorite Cos-Player.

She also has a light inside the cannon as well.
Sry I am writing this as I gaze at the pictures. I am in awe.

I can see that her helmet is probably just a regular helmet for a motorcycle. The unproportional helmet reminds me of the cartoon drawings that I saw when Metroid first came out on the NES. My Gawd is that a nice costume, sry still can't get over it.

I think she's a tad too skinny to pull off the whole look, the shoulder pads come to mind quickly; her arms just look too small coming out of them in some of the pics.

Overall though, I like how well done the costume is.

The other cosplay galleries on that page are excellent as well.

I think that if Samus ever has a voice she should have a Russian accent. That would make her even more exotic. If they ever have a live action movie I hope they go for a Maxim magazine type blonde for when she has the helmet off but an athlete for when her helmet is on. She should be the unbelievably perfect woman.
