DRoD is a major favorite. I, too, discovered the original through Underdogs, and was hooked for life. JtRH and TCB raised the bar twice more.

I forgot to mention: the 'demos' have the level editor and the ability to import custom levels included (which can be downloaded from the website for free). This often strikes people as being overly generous, but then we've got a ton of really good custom levels so it seems to work out okay.

DRoD is one of my three favourite games of all time. I discovered it through Home of the Underdogs a few years ago, downloaded the demo, and left the setup file sitting around for ages.

It's definitely a game of hidden treasures as it's fairly unassuming and rugged exterior belies the finest, most ingenious and downright cunning level design I've ever seen in 20+ years of videogaming. It's also horribly fair. The way the game works shows that any mistakes are always on the player's part.

I tell anyone who will listen how great I think DRoD is and I delight in seeing it get greater exposure.

Hi, I'm one of the guys that helped make DROD. It's more my job to go around and talk people's ears off about it.

@kimcheese & brello: The name's supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, in the vein of Bride of the Revenge of the Son of the Return of The Death Bed of Doomy Doom. But everyone just calls it DROD anyway (including us, the reason being readily apparant if you have a look at all the different variant spellings there are in this post for the game's name).

I don't mind at all if people aren't fond of the game, it's not for everyone but it's fairly gratifying to see that some people love it to bits. We're also developing a more friendly version called Frogs and Mice (after - I kid you not - the Greek epic) for the InstantAction portal launching next year, in case the difficulty's a bit much for people.

I feel compelled to point out that there is an actual movie called "Death Bed" about some kind of haunted bed that indirectly kills people. It's a terrible movie.

The rooms in DROD are fairly deadly, but you get to restart as many times as you want and even undo a death. So maybe it's not THAT deadly.

man, i remember this one, it was freaking awesome. think i was too young/stupid to fully appreciate it though, never got past the first coupla rooms. Does one move self, or move sword...a puzzling conundrum.

DROD is amazing.

If anyone wants to check the game out before spending money on it, be sure to check out the Architects' Edition - The graphics and sound aren't quite as nice as the commercial versions, but it's free, and if you're like me it'll be more than enough to get you hooked on the series.

The download for the Architects' Edtion is here, in both Windows and Linux flavors.
