But a song is overpriced at 1$ in the first place. In most cases, by 50cents. And that's just by the standard of a CD. Inflation or not, they're milking the shit out of us. Especially considering how much money they save and customers they stand to gain from digital delivery.

A guitar hero song, which is basically a bunch of sound clips split up and a few stars is probably, fairly, about half the raw effort and time of sifting creatively for a great song and then recording and producing it professionally. I'm being arbitrary, but it's pretty clear that what they do is a process of conversion, not a mysterious creative endeavor in itself. The game is that endeavor, and we already own that. .75cents for a guitar hero track would be reasonable, assuming .50cents is reasonable for a song, which could, legitimately, vary depending on how old it was, how much of a 'hit' it was, and the level of creativity, though... considering the market, mysteriously, a song by a guy who's basically talking in a specific rythym over a repeating guitar riff that someone *else* wrote years ago is considered worth up to 5 times as much as epic symphonic works requiring cooperation from dozens of people. So the market is schizo.
But, regardless, given all that, they're getting ripped off. It just sounds good because the Euro is strong. You have to remember, European prices are less inflated in many cases--especially for food and necessities. So measured against *that* society, this is, predictably, as big a ripoff as they could get away with. They being Sony, the company from the country that brought you the slaughter of Nan-King.

A la carte pricing for Sing Star (and Rockband) is good news and would be a welcome addition to GH even if the price didn't change. But unless I'm missing something (and I might be) I'm not sure you praise Sing Star pricing and still bash GH.

That's precisely the point - people didn't like the GH downloadable content because they force you to buy two songs you didn't want in order to get one you do. In reality, a song you want is far more valuable than one you don't.

I'm sure there would have been less complaint about Guitar Hero's DLC pricing at $2 per track (never mind the $1.50 SingStar will probably be in the US) if you got to choose the tracks you want.

Agreed that including 70 odd tracks on the disc is better value than including 30 (even if the 30 do have the original videos) but once past that stage, the DLC is much better - especially if they keep adding more songs (ideally they'd add say four or five every week, don't know if that will really happen obviously).

SingStar is catering to a much broader market. Rock Band does not have many ballads, R & B or rap. I don't think they are in direct competition. Anyone hear of "Puffy's Making the Band:The game"...no? ;^)

I don't know if the downloaded tracks come with video at all or are audio only, but if they do include video you can bet it won't be Blu-ray quality. :) So they probably could have fit in a few hundred more tracks at the download-quality-level, but there's not much incentive to do that, given licensing costs...

Anyway, nothing really to complain about here - the pricing is entirely fair. I hope they keep improving that selection over time, but assuming they do, this might be something I'd consider getting. Although I have to admit, most of the music I actually sing along to is Japanese anime theme tunes, or else dance tracks that only really have about 5 words repeated, both of which categories I think we can pretty much be assured will not feature heavily in the SingStar selection...

If half the songs are £0.99 and the other half are £1.49, you're still paying 44 song * £1.25. The overall game comes up to £79.99, that's £5 more than you pay for GH3(with the Wireless Les Paul) overall from Game.co.uk([www.game.co.uk]) for PS3 with roughly the same amount of songs and no mics.

And you people are saying that Activision/Red Octane are gouging you?

I doubt Rock Band can be much cheaper. With each song you're basically getting 4 different tracks (one for each instrument), with probably 4 difficulties each. With all that effort per song, I'd be surprised if they were under $2 a pop (except for complete albums, which would probably be cheaper than buying each song seperately).
