Between the hardware problems I've had and wasted money on BC games that don't work properly, I'd like to see MS put a little more effort into fixing all the things that are broken before they worry about adding more features...which also probably won't work properly.

Only problem is people complain enough about buying old Nintendo games, most of which are classics everyone has. Well, not everyone. Mostly people whining about a service they don't need because they already own the original.

But most of these games are fairly recent. Who doesn't own Halo? One of my friends excluded. And I stopped playing Crash Bandicoot after Crash Bash.

I think the odds of owning Halo or any of the other games are greater than owning any one of the Virtual Console games.

About the 360 Elite being a great deal, think about this: 450 dollars for a console w/ 120 gb HDD & HDMI cable. 50 dollars for your first year of Xbox Live = 500 bucks.

Playstation 3 is 500 dollars, with free lifetime online play service, built-in hidef playback (BluRay) - 180 dollars extra for HD-DVD on Xbox, 80gb hard-drive (cheap & easy to upgrade to 250gb or more), MotorStorm game included, rechargeable controller out of the box (20 bucks extra for Xbox recharge pack), wireless network out of the box (100 dollars extra for Xbox), it really is an incredible value if you want all hook-ups. The only thing you have to pay extra for is the HDMI cable, but it's still 560 dollars for all the functionality that you get from 800 dollars if you go the Xbox route (including a year of xbox live... which over the course of your ownership jumps to over 200 bucks extra if you want connectivity for the life of the console).

360 has an amazing library right now, and I own two of them. Must own for any true gamer who wants to play the greatest games. But PS3 is a wonderful value and no slouch in the games department either (Ratchet & Clank alone is a dealbreaker for me)... it's got a small library now, but the games will come. They'll come. Remember Dreamcast's huge library vs. PS2 during the first year of PS2? Things quickly changed. I predict something like that will happen in Sony's favor again.

Megabits are different from megabytes - 2,000Mb (megabits) ~ 250MB (megabytes). Just because a game comes on a medium that is capable of so much space doesn't necessarily mean that each and every game will fill up that space.

Hopefully, this idea will see the inclusion of more titles that were not previously backwards compatible, as it would be a cakewalk to simply make the changes neccessary to run on the 360's hardware in the physical data of the game itself, thus bypassing the need for more backwards compatible patches. Why is Microsoft charging for old games? Despite what Sony says, backward compatibility is expensive. Microsoft has to contact the original developer, and either ask them to create the backward compatibility updates or request the original code to do so. Both require developers doing work which will see no future revenue.

By creating a revenue stream for "old" games, Microsoft can recoup it's expenses or assist game studios in recouping their expenses for development costs.

It'd be nice if you owned the original non-bc game, that Microsoft would "discount" the cost for the downloadable game. While I doubt you'll have achievements added to downloadable games, it'd be sweet. As well, if a game doesn't have online play, I doubt it'll be added. Both of those require significant updates to the code.

Do you have to get a bigger HD, no. With XBox Live you can download and delete things you've already purchased without having to worry about repurchasing anything. I doubt you'll be downloading a 4.5 GB package, compression will factor in. The download time would likely be in the two - three hour range, which you could do in the background while playing another game (it isn't the PS3 folks).

Before you waste your money, you don't need to split your HDMI and sound. While HDMI carries sound with it, you can also plug in your standard audio components and run 'em into a 5.1 box if you want. Just turn the volume down on your TV if it has speakers of its own.

what's the main reason MS is having trouble with making games BC? i'd say the main reason is that they can't change what's on the disc at your house. the discs are out there for all these old games and they can't be changed. therefore MS has to adapt the emulation software to work with the code on the disc.

well, with downloadable xbox games over Live, MS can adapt the game code to work with the emulation software before releasing it to the marketplace, instead of vice versa. this also means that if bugs do pop up in a dl game they put out, they can easily fix them and anyone who bought it can simply redownload it.

it is very possible that with this new setup, all xbox games could become available to play on 360.

seeing how Puzzle Quest is, and Lumines used to be 1200 points, it's not that bad of a price. If they add achievements (maye 500 points available) and online support, then I could see this being huge. I can't wait, I have no Xbox 1 and missed out on a lot of games.

1) If we download the games, our 360 would probably still need to emulate them. This means that either a) they continue to release BC updates, and even moreso once they start releasing games that don't currently have BC, or b) they will only release BC games that currently have it, and give up on BC, which they would have done anyways.

2) Stop moaning about the price. You can get it a GS for a fraction of the price? GOOD FOR YOU! That means this isn't meant for you! Some people don't have the time nor resources to go to a GS whenever they wish. Being able to d/l the games would be a Godsend to those people. If you don't see the sense in this, it means it wasn't made for you.

Nintendo has us downloading old old games for a few bucks each because they couldn't very well have put N64, SNES, NES, Hu-Card, Neo-Geo and Genesis slots on their tiny console. But when it comes to the newest old games, the Gamecube titles... there's 100% compatibility. That was nice of them.

I don't yet have an HDMI-set, but when I do, it's good to know that I can plug my 360 into it that way. But the cheapest way to get a brand new 120gb hard drive is to pay 160 bucks over at Amazon. That's a lot of money for an extra hundred gigs. I wish it was non-proprietary. That's another nice thing that appeals to me about the PS3 and makes me feel like it's worth getting... you can replace the hard-drive with any 2.5" 5400 RPM SATA, without voiding the warranty. I'm just upset that I don't have the 120 gb hard drive. That'd help when this feature is available. And no HDMI either. What a load. I paid 400 bucks for the Halo 3 system which has no wireless adaptor, 20 gb hard drive, no HD-DVD playback, and no HDMI output. The 400 dollar PS3 has Blu-Ray playback, wireless network out of the box, double the hard disk space, and HDMI. Seems like a great deal now.

3/5 of those games are B/C with 360 DOA3, DOAU, and NGB. The ones that aren't are DOAXBVB, and GV. If Microsoft BCs those two games I'd be one happy gamer.

I hope this download thing doesn't replace the BC updates, seriously I don't want to pay for games that I already own so I can play them on a 360.

If they can have that Barbie Horse game BCed they can have my two games BCed.

This is a really nice surprise. I just wish the hard drive situation didn't suck so much on the 360. With the PS3 I know I can back up my drive, stick in a regular cheap PC drive and continue on. With the 360 it's a nightmare of expensive propriety drives, cable transfers and subsequent broken arcade games :(
