A relatively significant portion of them are pedophiliac in nature. Not sure about the actual number of convictions with respect to sodomy, but one of the articles has a list of convictions under 377A in recent years. 2. While sodomy remains illegal despite a huge online effort to repeal the law, no one has ever been convicted of it.

The government has publicly stated that it does not intend to ever prosecute anyone for it.

The only reason why it failed to be repealed is because we have a huge conversation population (in the traditional value and not the religious sense) and the law actually has the support of the majority.

It's hard to get it repealed when the proponents of the law outnumber you. It is true that Singapore does not have a political tradition of valuing individual freedom, which makes it even harder.

But still, it's very unfair to compare us to Iran. Singaporean politicians acknowledge homosexuality and do not seek to persecute homosexuals.

It's just a lack of political courage to overcome inertia and force change upon the status quo.

Holy Crap people, how many of you have actually been to Singapore?

It really is a nice city/country (though booze is taxed all to hell) but the place is nice. The city is way cleaner than any place we have in the states and the food is fantastic.

If you aren't a thief, drug dealer, or Drunk driver, you should be just fine (you can't drive...cars are taxed 300% there so it is all cabs anyways).

Serious, before you go off bashing some other country (city state...whatever, the thing is only like 25 mi/sq) do a bit of research. (Child sex trade? wtf..)

well. it's interesting to see sometimes how so much contextual information is lost in news reports.

i agree that superficially singapore does sound like a crazy place to live, if they can ban games like this for one 'harmless scene'.

the truth is, singapore is currently a country in transition. you have the backdrop of a largely conservative asian society, contrasted against the younger, more liberal younger generations who have had more exposure to different cultures / ways of thinking.

If Nascar's right (which I'm guessing he is, I just haven't done my research), then it's the homosexuality of the scene itself that's the problem and causing the ban, not the visual images. It'd be like having a scene of child molestation in a video game in the US, even if "nothing was shown".

If that's the case though, then simplest enough; BioWare could always just cut the "lesbian" subplot out of the game and it'd probably be pretty easy to get it released. It's not like it's a major part of the game.

Amusingly, of all the nations that could ban the game, Singapore was one I hadn't even thought of. I would've expected the ESRB to attack it like a pack of rabid dogs before Singapore had a problem with it, but I guess sometimes the Weird-O-Meter tips a little too far.
