Hey, will the lucky 13 question part be real time or e-mail based? E-mail based may be rather slow for some of us... What did they do, pay 3000 for just the video card? How can you have a gaming computer with 512MB RAM? Even a GB isn't enough anymore. Windows Vista needs like 4 GB to run correctly... Just seems like its not as nice as you think it is.

@BOMxAgonyxScenex: Alienware is now owned by Dell. They didn't change the prices for the most part, which IS a good business move. Why? Because people buy them, regardless of the fact that they're way overpriced. There are millions of options to buy a computer if you don't want to/know how to build one yourself and if case aesthetics are your only stipulation....well you probably have the money to spend anyways.

That being said, I'm grateful Kotaku is giving one away because they DO look cool :P

@BOMxAgonyxScenex: I feel an crushing defeat coming your way :0) Here I go:

Alienwares seem expensive for the specification you are receiving for you money, but when you actually look closely at the components you'll realise they've chosen great ones, not just thrown in something to boost the apparent spec. I own an Aurora m9700 that is just over a year old and it's nothing short of awesome - a true mobile desktop that I don't imagine I'll need to upgrade for absolutely ages. Although I said earlier that people might choose Alienware because they know little about making a custom PC, I myself do know how to build one yet I still chose an Alienware because I know there are a lot of advantages to buying a product compared to taking the time to build my own (customer support, protected by a manufacturers warranty, the system has been tested and retested during building). Even a year into its life I haven't had to do anything myself, and I'm really happy being lazy about it. When you take on board these overheads of somebody doing the leg-work for you, plus the safety of their support and warranties, pay their designers to make it look so damned enviable and their funky Gamer Community website, I think the money I paid is justified. I don't feel I'm being screwed over - my experience with Alienware machines has been top notch and a lot of people I know love the look of my modern product. I think that there's weight behind this popular notion that Alienware equipment is overpriced because of the majority of people who are interested in performance PCs are also exactly the kind of people who know how much components needed to build one cost, and they seem to choose to ignore and understand that employing people for the extra services is going to add substantially to that price. Maybe there's some jealousy going on in their subconscious, or perhaps it's just down to the voice of reason in the back of their heads that tells them that spending that many thousands of currency is too risky, or unjustified - I really don't know. But if you still think Alienwares are a rip-off, get out there yourself and start your own performance PC company (or subsection of a big PC company like Dell) and try to charge less for your product without making a loss, or without charging so much that people never buy them.

Nothing personal, but I just love arguing my cause - so much that I seem to have written a small dissertation without noticing. Yay for Nerdish ranting!

Seriously, I've been broke ass gaming for years. It took me 14 months to to buy up all the bits to build my 'new' computer. I just finished it in October, and it's already pretty well out of date. I can now run last years games in the medium to high range, graphically. It ain't terrible, and better than what I had, but a brand spanking new $3000 gaming rig? Do want.

I restate my solemn pledge that if I win, I will send in a video of myself Ghost Riding Tha' Whip. The Whip, in this case, being the computer. I'm not sure how I'll do it, but I'll FIND a way.

I'm referencing Alienware, not the awesome prize Kotaku is so graciously giving out. Very awesome of them. I understand that Alienware makes unique case designs, very cool of them. I like that. But you made the perfect comment.

And in doing so screwing over the consumer out of $1500 for being ignorant on the subject. Of course they are doing well for themselves in that regards. Smart business move, who knows, I may have made the same one. Doesn't mean it's still not screwing over the consumer to an enormous extent. If your happy with your machine and don't mind the large amount of money you may or may not have spent then great. Always remember, there is usually weight in something a lot of people bitch about. Which references your ("Here we go again...") remark.

This would be a HUGE improvement over my current computer- a 3 year old laptop with an Nvidia GeForce4 440 Go 64 MB graphics card. Even the hinges on the lid are shot- I have to tape it open. My hard drive has many bad sectors, so if I don't win this I am going to try and save up some money to build my own next summer.
