I think it's way too early to rule out Haze, especially on the basis that it's on a "losing" console.

One big plus it has over COD4 is the exclusion of co-op (the only glaring ommission in COD4). Also, from a gameplay perspective, it offers up some interesting variations between the sides, in terms of the unique advantages the rebels possess as opposed to the Mantel soliders.

Wikipedia does an excellent overview on games. That's what sold me on Bioshock originally. I thought the title was stupid, honestly, until I read up on the game and was wowed by the artwork and description.

Anyhow, after reading that this is being developed by the same people who did a great job on the legendary Goldeneye, I have hopes that it'll succeed. I'm definitely considering picking it up instead of UTIII, whose aesthetics I've never been that excited about.

Also, just think about this. What game do you know and can tell me, has been exclusive for PS3 that had Online multi-player and or Co-op ablities, ported to the 360 and not only sold more, but also done better. NOT because of 360 install console base, but just because the game has online compatibility and Xbox live install base is 7 million n growing. Same graphics, but WHY?

that's a damn good point, dude. i remember when Warhawk came out, and my buddy was flabbergasted by the reviews. mainly because it came out around the same time as Heavenly Sword, and HS was supposed to be the one to get all the reviewing rave. it was a complete role reversal.

I agree with everything you said but I want to focus on the statement that PS3 owners aren't buying enough games.

I have made it a point to buy any and all good software for the PS3. If we want publishers to stop slapping together shitty ports, we have to show them that a good game can sell well on the PS3. I have 9 games for the PS3 and while racing might not be my favorite genre, I bought let's say, Motorstorm because it looks like a well done and fun game. Same goes for multiplat games like Fight Night and the Darkness.

No, I remember many people stating a similar complaint in previous threads, like @Heliophage above. While it might be exclusive, it's also 'Just another FPS'. And there's an assload of those that have just come out or are coming out soon. Unless this one can set itself apart from the CoD4s, the Halos, I think it'll be largely ignored unless the balancing issues have been fixed and it draws people in. From what little I've seen of it, it plays like a Far Cry with drugs. Am I wrong? Probably, I don't get to play many new games nowadays, but just from looking and listening, I don't know how it'll pull itself away from the rest of the FPS pile and really make a name for itself. Some might have the notion that because it's for PS3, it's bad, but I honestly think if I were Sony, I too would've grabbed Assassin's Creed over this one, just to show off something new as opposed to what the market's seen a lot of lately. (Though maybe they don't care, as Uncharted might have that role.)

My guess is 360 fanboys are just annoyed ps3 is getting a 3rd party exclusive, when it was suppose to be coming out for 360 and PC people had nothing but good things to say about it :(

I speculated as much in my post. It makes sense, so I'm not really confused by it. Hopefully it pays off for them, so profit can lure multiplatform developers back into working through the programming structure and get things done right, like Infinity Ward seems to have.

You saw hate for Rachet & Clank? The only reason to dislike it is to dislike its entire genre. Haze on the other hand, as per the developer commentary posted here and elsewhere, is admittedly a repetitive game with respect to the overdosing. While he didn't use the term 'repetitive,' he did suggest that it is primarily what you'll be doing.

Shoot this guy here so he overdoses.
Stab this guy with this so he overdoses.
Throw this grenade so they overdose.

Not only does it welcome becoming tired of the game after doing the same few things repeatedly, it offers a whole slew of balancing issues with regard to being able to berserk your enemies so easily and often. AI becomes irrelivent.

Potentially, anyway. For what it's worth, I like the playing dead aspect. I will hold the wait-and-see mentality, but I stand by my initial assumption that the title wouldn't have done well against other titles on the PS3 this month like Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed, and probably Uncharted.

A company buying advertisement space for the products its profits depend on: what's so strange about that? 3rd party or not, a PS3 game sold is mo' money for Sony.


I doubt their strategy is to "hide" the fact that games like COD4 are also on the 360 (how many 360 owners will buy a PS3 thinking that's the only way they'll play Assassin's Creed?).

(The thing Sony doesn't want to admit is paying for exclusivities. Now that's an entirely different question.)

The Simpsons Game was like that, too, in PS3's favor. They're just marketing it how they need to market it to maximize their profits. Part of that involves squeezing out everything possible from your smaller install base. Another part, though, likely involves promotional marketing money from Sony (or Microsoft, in the cases where they're shown rather than the PS3 in a commercial).

I wouldn't say that Sony is paying anyone off so much as they're buying advertisement space to piggy back on a multiplatform title's commercial. It costs them a little, but ideally the payoff will justify it.

Check back in the posts prior to Haze's 'exclusivity' announcement. There are definitely people excited about this game, but there are plenty still who have never cared for it.

There's always someone who assumes that it being on the PS3 is why people don't like it... Did you see anything like that regarding Rachet & Clank? I highly doubt it. Maybe Uncharted, though mostly from that jetski clip.

I'm not going to slam Haze because I have no idea how good it'll turn out. I'd be VERY surprised if it was a bad game, though. Too much talent at FR for it to be bad. But I also expect it to be basically ... Timesplitters. In that, I'm referring to sales and interest. So whatever Sony paid for the (probably timed) exclusivity, it's unlikely that it'll pay off in the end.

Plus, as I've stated consistently before, PS3 owners are just not buying games for it like they should.

the crack in the helmet, exposing his face, is symbolic of his eyes being opened to what is really going on. look behind him, and you see what the Mantel army is doing. he is now aware of the atrocities. this independent thinking contrasts the number that you can faintly see on the forehead portion of the mask (looks like a 3). think, "i am not a number, i am a free man!" so i think this boxart scores some points on actually having some depth and symbolism to it.

(usually i myself would say i am looking into this too much, but with all the stuff i have read about the game i think this follows suite with what the developers are going for)

Actually, Haze is somewhat in the same situation as TimeShift a few weeks ago: they both have an interesting concept (nectar/time-manipulation) with great potential.

TimeShift didn't really deliver on its promise.
We'll see about Haze. But I just watched a "Gameplay interview" DLed from the PSN, and there definitely is some potential there.

I especially like the way that Nectar not only gives extra juice to the Mantel soldiers, but also shrouds their perception of the world (by "deleting" corpses from their view, for example).

I just hope this isn't one of those games where you technically have many options to deal with any given situation, but where the best one usually ends up being: kill anything that moves without thinking.

We'll see............. Not a killer app for sure, but maybe an enjoyable romp.

Is it really? I'm not so sure. There's a reason why publishers avoid mid December like the plague. If there was any safety in that month then one of the big November titles would've been delayed until December to better their chances of sales.

I personally am still expecting a delay, unless Sony's (likely still timed) exclusivity deal has a timeframe stipulation in it. Add in that gameplay videos have been rare with Haze. That doesn't really make a December release look like a solid lock.

That said, I bought Call of Duty 4 recently, entirely on a whim. I'm not too big on FPS, Resistance being the first FPS I really sat down and enjoyed, but CoD4 is amazing on PS3. If Haze can even be nearly as good, then that's another game I can enjoy. Here's looking forward to it.

The fact that it's being developed by Free Radical has me very interested. From what I've seen it's nothing super fantastic and ground-breaking, but it looks like it has the potential to at least be fun, if nothing else, and that's what gaming is all about, having fun.
