Pleeeeze, I wouldn't play this game even if you paid me, And I'm a die hard Star Trek Fan. Is it just me, or does this game have nothing to do with what Star Trek is really about... Really. A tolerant nature is a good thing, and something Star Trek fans would get a free 'get out of jail' card, if they lost it. There is no ST game that says "that's how it should be done". It has not been respected.

Star Wars... absolutely, there has been some crap. But look at the good things that have the Star Wars name on them. Not many, but there are a few.

@DJ Magneto: Yeah, I pretty much agree that a Star Trek RPG is really what would interest me more than a Star Trek action game.

@Avinash_Tyagi: You know, I didn't watch Deep Space 9. I don't want to start a flame war, but I will admit to being a Roddenberry loyalist, and that I probably have an unfairly snobby attitude about DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. I should probably see DS9 at some point, though, since Ronald D. Moore was heavily involved with it starting in its third season, and I love what Moore has done with Battlestar Galactica.

minister.of.rhetoric

That looks pretty naff. My favourite Star Trek games have been the Elite Force games, Bridge Commander and the old Gameboy TNG game. I wish someone would make a next-gen amalgamation of those three, the Gameboy game was fairly open ended and wasn't just about shooting things, Bridge Commander gave you the realistic feel of commanding a ship and Elite Force gave you the freedom to explore your ship and the planets you visit. Now if someone could put all that into one game, it could be the best Trek game ever.

photoboy

Honest to god, they have got to hire a new composer. They have used that same music for the last three Star Trek games they released! Sure, the music is alright, but variation is nice when it comes to this sort of thing.

Legacy was a big let down for me, and though I liked Tactical Assault, it was only a very basic version of the Starfleet Command games. This game looks decidedly meh to me.

GodBen

@Tenth: For the most part, I think it's more malaise and indifference, at least it is for me. Comes with having Berman & Co. slowly run the entire franchise into the ground over the past 12 years or so. You just stop caring, and occasionally try to squeeze out some nugget of joy from what's served up - be it a game or otherwise.

Chimaera

@yoni: Right, right. I mean, I do understand that these games are based on board games people have probably played since before TNG even existed, but what I would really like to see is a Star Trek game that poses moral questions the way the series did. When people talk about games ascending to more than mere distractions, I think Star Trek has a lot of potential to at least help in that regard.

But people get too tied up with space ships and alien battles, and it doesn't leave any room for that whole concept of pitting opposing ideas against each other and seeing which one is better and why. For example, the first major battle against the Borg in TNG was really an allegory that compared the strengths and weaknesses of collectivism and individualism. I'd like to see a game that forces me to weigh these philosophical issues, and live with the outcome (and not half-ass it in the end like Bioshock).

minister.of.rhetoric

I just hope and pray it's decent. Pretty much all Star Trek games ever have sucked horribly though, so I won't get my hopes up too high.

Quattuor

..gotta agree with you there, that does look pretty horrible. I don't understand why they don't make just an adventure game and have the flight missions as a minigame. Trekkies will flock a game like that because we all know Star Trek is full of unadulterated action.

doctorwily

You know, watching the trailer, and getting to the part where it says, "Achieve galactic domination," with Star Trek music, it just felt really wrong with me. Granted, I've never played any of these kinds of Trek games, but the whole concept of galactic domination goes against every principle Roddenberry founded his two shows upon. Does that bother anyone else?

minister.of.rhetoric
