The kits usually have a wide array of different tools for making all kinds of different incisions and cuts. Aside from that, I'm guessing a lot of people improvise to make other specialized tools out of various things they have around the house. One thing is for sure, you definitely can't make something like this with a big kitchen knife and a soup ladle.
