The games are fun... but playing mini-game #123 for the nth time kinda gets boring. Haven't you had your mini-game fix since Mario Party 3? I'm not dissing Nintendo, I just think they could do more by balancing their attention towards the gaming audience (as opposed to the casual/non-gamer/soccer-mom audience).

I've gotten over the Wii-mote functionality ages ago and all the plastic-holder variants available (like the Mario Kart holder - that's thing's a rip-off).

I mean the Olympics game is "been there, done that" without the awkward, geeky hand movements. I played this on the PS One eons ago! Although to Nintendo's credit, without the massive character list.

I appreciate the effort, Nintendo. However, I'm on the other side of the fence - sort of speaking. Still haven't found the "killer app" that will persuade me to buy a Wii.

Come to think of it, how many Wii games that only utilize the classic controller in place of the Wii-mote? (Honest question, perhaps some of you guys can point me in the right direction?)

The mini-game games where you either flail like a moron or make circles were fun exactly one time in my experience. Count me out.

I know a lot of people like Sonic (he was rad!), and maybe even Tails or Knuckles, but does anyone care about any of that series' other lame characters? None of them are memorable in any way. Even Robotnik/Eggman, he's such a boring villain.

As for the game not being 'hardcore', all I'll say is that if this was a PS3 or 360 game with more "realistic" character models, the so-called 'hardcore' contingent (aka graphics whores) wouldn't be complaining about this at all.

Actually, with all the added sound effects of people hooting and hollaring it kind of reminded me of a Japanese variety show. I swear, everything out of their mouths is either TOTALLY, EARTH-SHATTERING HILLARIOUS or COMPLETELY, MIND-BLOWINGLY UNBELIEVABLY SURPRISING. Like the craptacular laugh tracks on American sit-coms.

What's your problem, mate? Last time I checked, Nintendo weren't really into the business of making gamers look like basement dwelling loners with no lives (I don't think they'd have to, I mean, all somebody has to do is hit up a gaming forum to see that).

Do you know why Books, Films and Television are accepted by the mainstream? It's because they offer something for everyone. Then again, I suppose that's not what you want, now is it?

also, please don't take my bait from earlier; it's not worth your time since i oversimplified and phrased it badly. i do indeed consider all games to be toys, as they check all the requisite boxes, but i'm not going to deny that there's more to (most of) them than that. added dimensions that make the whole experience richer, and yes, i believe that games can be art too (and many already are), in case it sounds like i'm saying otherwise.

that said, they are still toys, and i don't like seeing companies and devs slammed for making products that do what toys are supposed to do in the first place.

1. I find it amusing that almost everyone that was offended by "hardcore gamers" reacting against the Wii's "kiddie" games went on to label the hardcore gamers stereotypically as avid FPS players. I mean...can't a "hardcore" gamer like fighters? RPGs? RTSs? 3rd person action? Racing?

2. I think it is also a bit early to stick the "soccer moms and kids only" label on the Wii. While yes, the current lineup of games is heavily slanted towards that demographic, one must hope that legit 3rd party developers will come to the Wii at some point. But until the Wii gets a 3rd person action game not called Zelda, an FPS not called Metroid, an RPG not called Crystal Chronicles, a racing game not called Mario Kart, and a fighting game not called Smash Bros., the non-hardcore stigma is going to remain.

Now, if the Wii is still lacking in the non-kiddie department by next holiday season, it may well be time for the hardcore to write it off. Now is too soon however. As for what they could do....Contra on the Wii? Starfox? F-Zero? Eternal Darkness? Those would all be great steps in winning over the gamer demographic.

And the only reason I make such a blanket statement is for the fact that the videogame industry is subject to government legislation/banning/investigations/prick lawyers/lawsuits because of fucked up conclusions/research based on the stigma that videogames are only for kids.

I got popped in the arm while playing Wii Sports Baseball the night it launched. It was goofy fun. I could definitely see myself and friends getting crazy with this game, just like we do with the old Track & Field machine we play. That's part of the experience.

The problem is simple. While it's nice of nintendo to do what it does the stupid people of mainstream like to classify related things together in a group.

So, they see the wii they think: family friendly, children's toy, video-game.

See the problem is the ignorant people start generalizing all video-games to have these same connotations.

So then they start equating the X360 and PS3 to the wii then we have soccer moms starting organizations trying to get game ads banned from city buses, fanatic loons pretending to lawyers and talk show wannabe psychologist talking to people about the danger of video-games, and with law makers right on their heels trying to earn brownie points with the masses.

You may want to right me off, and that's fine but isn't the edited version of Manhunt 2 banned in the UK?

The same the version that got a M rating in the States? How long until some "concerned" law maker realizes that and we hear about people wanting federal regulations on video-games again.
