@Groovy_Guy: I think you're being a bit oversensitive. The woman is wearing all red. It has always been the case that women consider red to be the most potent color. Wearing an all-red dress is usually seen as a sign of self-confidence.

I watched Ikiru recently, and it made me think about the utter disrespect with which people treat their elders in modern times. That's truly a shame.

But you have to look at this reasonably. A person of any age wearing a getup like that would get teased. This isn't bashing; people here aren't hating on her. They're having a laugh at her expense, and I don't think she would dress in such a blatantly eye-catching manner if she didn't want to draw attention to herself. Give her some credit. Unless she's lost her wits, she knows what she's wearing.

I wish society wasn't so happy about insulting old ladies.

I think of this in two ways:

1) If someone took a voyeuristic picture of my grandma and was posting it all over the internet as a joke about her fashion sense/resemblance to a fictional character I wouldn't be too happy, as they would be messing with her confidence... which leads to number 2.

2) We all get old. One day someone will be taking your pictures, laughing it up at your old "new millenium" style that you never grew out of. As we age, we may find that we start not liking things about ourselves. Older people aren't idiots. They can't keep up with a society hell-bent on changing styles every 2 weeks, plus they grew up in an era where that sort of ideal change wasn't nearly as rapid.

What I am trying to say is this:

Some people grow old gracefully, accepting their age and not worrying about every wrinkle, every brown spot; seeing it as a sign of wisdom. And for them it is.

Others try to stay "hip" too long, well into their 40's, and eventually succomb to the depression of not being able to keep up. They lose their humanity in pop-culture, becoming increasingly sad over the decades that pass.

They listen to younger people make fun of their style, their wrinkles, their need for medical products (such as above mentioned colostomy bag), their hair, their glasses...ANYTHING that is not "cool". And it hurts them.

Do you notice? Does anyone pay attention to their grandparents? Don't discount their strength, but they are human.

They know their place in society!!!!.....they know how you feel about them. They are just old, NOT IGNORANT.

This sort of collective bashing of an old lady is pretty disturbing.

The only thing I remember from that show/game is where Nicaragua is. I used to love when they would run across the world on the floor thing, but the way the announcer said Nicaragua was amazing.
