Oh, awesome! I was dreading that this was going to be a kiddie version a la EA, but they've done exactly what I wanted. Precision through balls! Controlling off the ball runs! Full control of of set pieces! Long passes that go to the right player! This is going to be the best Pro Evo ever.

cdammers

I like PES / Winning Eleven. I play with my friend sometimes in his Xbox360. The controllers are going to be complicated, because is a new way to play the game. Still I can see that you have full control of the players and the ball.

Full control of the players because you can tell them what you want to do (as seen in the video).

Full control of the ball, because you can send passes directly to whoever you want instead of passing one after the other (if you know what I mean).

Anyways, I will look more about this game before I decided to buy it or not....

Video

Coming from a PC rts background, I DO NOT GET THE BITCHING about the control scheme at all. Mr. Article writer, I'm looking at you. It's like using, an air mouse, basically. I'm looking at you Mr. article poster.

But I guess it's damn if you do, damn if you don't on the Wii. Some will probably find this one easier to use than the gamepad navigation and call this one "dumbed" down. Then some will find this complicated and call this "too hard" even though they call themselves "hardcore".

But anyway, this is exactly what I bought the Wii for! Wow, I hope everyone copies their control scheme. I was actually hoping Madden implemented this, and a whole bunch of other team sports. We're finally breaking from the "gimmicky" angle and more into the serious and "appropriate" waggle.

Though I agree that they could have just mapped the shooting action to the button instead of shaking the nunchuk but we'll see.

And did I say I want more King Story type RTS on the Wii?

titiklabingapat

Like mentioned by some people before, the game seems to be more like a RTS what could be really interesting, but if there isn't more to the nunchuk gesture than activating the shoot, they should at least give us the opportunity to map it to a button. And to satisfy everyone who don't like the new gameplay, they should give us a control setup like in Mario Strikers, bc that works (imo) pretty good. :)

Superuser

What I can't understand is how this site screens potential users by evaluating the quality of their posts, and then puts up articles that contradict that principle. Why is the article writer criticising the control scheme for a game he admits he hasn't played? What he thinks it "looks" like is irrelevant. Unless he's played it, he isn't making a point.

This also goes to the people in this thread who've done the same thing. I personally think it sounds good, but my judgment is reserved until I finally get to play the game. I do agree that shaking the nunchuck is unnecessary though. They should've just mapped shoot to the Z button.

inphanta

Hmmm. I'll wait til I hear more about the shooting technique first as those scrambles in the box could just turn into one big long waggle-athon. But passing and movement idea looks solid. Should save my voice from screaming at players who just stand there all the time waiting for me to give them the ball so they can run the pitch when in reality they're cack and won't get anywhere at all. The gloryhunting gits... Oh and PES, yes. Good game. Sorry got sidetracked. ;-)

NunianVonFuch

Now that looks SWEET.

A LOT more analogous to real football. Putting the ball exactly where you want it instead of waiting for the UI to work out what you want. That is sheer greatness.

Football is all about positioning, making space and exploiting the positioning of your opponent, a good player will find positions for himself to occupy (the best can end up in gaps before they even start forming).

Football always suffered as a 3rd person game because you really had to rely on your AI controlled teammates to find the right positions then hope that the game understood what you were trying to do with your passes. This is exactly what's needed. If Konami can pull it off (and let's be honest, no one else could with a football game) then this will be the best football game ever.

Johnzim

Wow, this could go either way. It really could mark a turn in the way soccer games are designed and played, but at the same time it looks like the learning curve is going to be pretty steep. I mean, the screen is a mess with all the information going on at once.

drewskisama

It looked like a mess at the start of the video when it was just drawing lines all over the screen, but with the captions saying "press A to pass" and "press A and B to one-two", it looks like it will become a nice combination of tactical movement and button presses.

I think that it could end up playing a bit like the new FIFA, with consideration taken to good movement and finding the space. I especially like being able to draw defense to make gaps!

And to top it all, it's Pro on a nintendo machine. I have been waiting for this game for years.

Clinical

@JOSH: Who's squeezing? Point and click. Seems pretty simple, like a football RTS.

And it is a new standard: If you think any of the *next* genration's consoles are going to go without motion-sensitive controlls, you'd better hang on to those antique controllers you love so much.

mechawatts

WOW! This is what i've been wanting for years now.

Soccer is a team sport, so I always thought it should control more like an RTS game than an action game.

I'm not a big soccer fan but I can see myself getting into something like this.

King Louse

I dunno it seems a bit too complex and all the stuff showing up on screen (circles, labels, lines, etc) make it look more like a simulation than a game...

On the positive side though, this will allow you to create good plays and make use of openings and get better passes and goals rather than pressing a button and hoping for the best. Lets see how it goes...

Kra1oS

Is there some obligation to squeeze Wii controls into games that clearly don't need it?

It's not "setting a standard" when no other platform can practically follow, anyway. it's doing something odd.

Josh*

Looks intuitive to me.... You point at things and press a button.... you can tell other players to make runs by selecting them by pointing at them and pressing a button.

The only thing that i can see being a little bit stupid is having to shake the nunchuck to shoot.... thought it makes sense if you're having to point the wiimote everywhere else.

Duoae
