Ok, Brawl just went from "looks like fun" to "OMG MUST BAIIIII!" if only for the ability to see Sonic hand Mario his fat ass in something that's not a crummy Flash movie. As someone who grew up with the 16-bit console wars, this is huge. I never would have dreamed this could happen, but here we are.

Incidentally, I'm quite pleased they used Live and Learn for the teaser; it's one of my favourite 3D Sonic tracks. I just hope they don't use the Green Hill BGM remix from SA2; yes, it's iconic music, but I've heard it enough times, thankyouverymuch. Also, here's hoping they use a suitably retro-ish Green Hill for his home stage.

The only sad part about all this is that with pushing the Japanese release back, and the US date becoming "TBD", heaven only knows when Australia will get this.

Some time in 2009, probably...

P.S. The best 2D Sonic is, and shall probably always remain Sonic 3&K (but not on the PC; they destroyed the music), with Rush coming a close second entirely for the sense of speed. SA2 (minus all the other characters except Shadow) is the best traditional 3D Sonic game (for sucking the least) followed by Wildfire which was only ruined by Sonic Team's complete inability to program a camera or controls.

@Sabre_Justice: I preferred Sonic 2 to 3 (I actually still think 1 is best - when I was young, no game had saves, and we liked it that way! :-), but another great Sonic game that just occured to me was Sonic CD.

There were a bunch of good Sonic games after the first 2D series. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were okay, although they had major flaws such as the Knuckles stages :'-(. The GBA and DS Sonics are great, but not as good as the first 2D ones. Heroes is pretty good, and the Wii one is definitely the best 3D Sonic (and the only 3D Sonic where speed plays a major role).

But really, whether it's Sonic 1, 2, 3 or CD, it's obvious that Brawl will very likely be the best game featuring Sonic since these.

So yeah, if the Xbox died like Sega did then It's very much possible he could be in another game. But just so no idiots use this comment for evil keep in mind that MS owns Halo. The odds of him being in here are the odds of Mario being added to Halo 3. (Downloadable)

Master Chief is definitely a pipe dream right now. In the future, who knows, the gaming world is pretty unpredictable, but currently we all know there's no way.

Personally I'd rather have Shigeru Miyamoto as a character. THAT would bring this game to truly insanely awesomely divine status.

All SSB characters HAVE to have originated as a video game, and made some significant appearances on a Nintendo console at some point. (Miyamoto has been in the credits of dozens, I'm sure he counts)

Makes me wish Snoopy was in. Though he'd be more likely to appear in a sports title. Which would still be awesome, and probably better suited since what the hell would HIS moveset be?

@Archaotic: Aren't they pretty similiar? And I mean in the sense that it gives power and speed but you gotta be careful so it doesn't run out on you in a dangerous place. Basically how Sonic seems to play but on steroids- which is exactly what Super Sonic is.

I've beaten Sonic 3 & Knuckles so many times, I should know.

Downside is, they chose that awful 4kids voice actor didn't they? Oh well.

@DangerFlakes: Just for the record, apparently the creators of Sonic and DBZ collaborated on stuff before the release of Sonic 2 or DBZ, so it probably isn't too much of a straight rip-off.

Seriously, this is probably the game with most fan service per inch of screen in all history of gaming.

Also, a little speculation. We know Sakurai is sweet talking developers and seeking the inclusion of top characters. So, right now:

Kojima = KONAMI = Solid Snake
Naka = SEGA = Sonic
Inafune?? = CAPCOM?? = Megaman??

This last inclusion would make the box drool with the awesomeness dripping from the DVD inside.

We have 22 characters confirmed, 12 new. Taking into account that some veterans like Captain Falcon are going to be revealed FOR SURE (you hear me, Sakurai? FOR SURE!), we're talking about 30 characters here. If the Space Emissary Mode, Classic Mode, etc. all have to be completed with each character...

So, now that Sonic is out of the way, what other characters would we like to see? Mega Man is obvious, of course. What about the dude from Bionic Commando? He could get back up on the area with his bionic thingie, and in the Japanese version, Hitler could be his assist!

Simon Belmont is another obvious addition.

Other old franchises with (somewhat) fitting characters are Adventure Island, Battletoads, Final Fantasy (NOT Cloud, though, thanks :-), ActRaiser...

And the other fighting games, of course. Street Fighter, Double Dragon, the SNK ones...

I wonder if he'll be able to run on levels like Big Blue without being carried away to the side of the screen. That would be an interesting addition. If so he'll have an edge on such areas with general platforms being tricky due to his speed (which probably means my idea would be tricky to implement while maintaining Sonic's functionality as a fighter). Anyway, I wonder what his area's going to look like. Hopefully nothing as plain as those F-Zero levels.
